Amanda, Jubilee - Friday morning
Mar. 7th, 2008 10:01 amJubilee asks Amanda about this encounter, among other things.
Jubilee placed the stack of mail quietly in Amanda's inbox on her desk and took a seat in the chair that was set aside for whatever clients might visit the witch at the office. She hadn't wanted to interrupt the conversation the other girl was having on the telephone, and was for the most part content to wait, since it gave her a chance to eavesdrop anyhow.
"So, it's gone in the 'weird shite' file?" Amanda acknowledged Jubilee with a nod, and turned slightly away to finish her call. "There's worse places for that sort of thing, and quicker 's buried, the better. Thanks a bunch - lunch on me next time, yeah?" Apparently that was appreciated, and Amanda grinned slightly. "All right, then. Ta ra." Hanging up, she looked over at Jubilee. "You look like someone with something on their mind." It was said with the same casual but careful friendliness that had coloured her dealings with Jubilee since the other girl's reappearance.
"You know the guy we looked up in Madripoor has been hangin' about your apartment, right?" Jubilee asked, launching into the question that had been on her mind since she'd had lunch with Farouk. He...didn't seem particularly dangerous as it were but she'd long ago learned appearances were always deceiving.
"Farouk?" Amanda sighed. "I was hoping he'd give up eventually if I left him to his own devices a bit." Apparently not - the man was proving more stubborn than she'd anticipated. "He turned up a couple of weeks ago, wanting to learn about magic, and I've been kicking myself ever since."
"Yeah, Farouk. He's...interesting. He certainly seems to like the sound of his own voice. Why the kicking?" Jubilee asked, eyebrows raised.
"Because he's driving me fucking nuts, is why. I figured I could explain the basics and be done, you know? But this bloke..." Amanda shook her head in disgust. "He asks questions. Not to mention I can't leave him alone five minutes without him getting into something he shouldn't."
"Oh?" Jubilee said, tone curious.
She slouched further into the seat, taking the conversation as a chance to rest up before moving on her way.
"Well, there's no harm in the sense that he's got bugger all in the way of actual magical ability, but there's still stuff that I'd rather he didn't get into. Aside from the fact he's a horrible old bastard looking out for himself, there's just stuff he won't get." Amanda huffed out a breath. "And now he's sitting on my bloody doorstep like a gargoyle. Too bad Strange took off again - this'd be right down his alley."
"You could always ask Wanda or Pete to see him off," Jubilee noted, noncommittal. "Or just find some spell that'll give him hives when he gets within a few meters of the building."
"My mess. I'll sort it." Amanda gave Jubilee a slightly exasperated look. "And I don't do that shite any more. Tante's big on not using magic before you try the mundane ways first. 'M not about to toss the time I spent with her down the drain, 'specially not on someone like Farouk. I'll manage."
"Hmm, your funeral if he decides to go all violent, I suppose." Jubilee answered, shrugging. "You going to the bar tonight?"
She'd slouched down about as far as you could get on a chair without slithering off it and took a moment to pull herself back up into a better position.
Amanda didn't even bother dignifying that with a response. It wasn't like Jubilee had actually seen what she was capable of these days. "Actually, no. Got dinner tonight with Ange and Forge and Crystal."
"You and Ange, huh?" Jubilee replied after a moment, fishing in her pocket for the small circle of rubber one of Remy's compatriots had given her and started squeezing it between her fingers and palm. "How'd that happen?"
"'Bout a year ago." Amanda gave Jubilee's hand a curious glance, but didn't ask what she was doing. "He nearly got killed in that bombing in Tel Aviv, and I s'pose it sort of drove home the whole part where we were sort of crazy 'bout each other." She smiled despite herself. Even with all the ups and downs, the relationship with Angelo was something she had to pinch herself occasionally to believe she could have been do lucky.
"Good for you" Jubilee replied, transfering the rubber circle to her other hand after a view moments and continuing the exercise. "So, you got anythin' needing gopherin' before I go and try to make Mark forget his postit notes?"
"There's a bundle of documents you can take to Pete. Just make sure you drop 'em and run - there's some stuff in there he's not going to like." Amanda passed over the thick file with just a hint of glee.
Jubilee placed the rubber circle back in her pocket and picked up the stack of documents with an amused air. "You are so going to owe me a drink if I end up with scorch marks, dude. What isn't he goin' to like, or shouldn't I be askin'?"
"You'll find out soon enough if you don't get out right quick," Amanda said with a grin. "Have fun."
"Cruel woman - see if I save you from late night starvation next time you get a big research project." Jubilee replied, but stood to be on her way. "If I'm not out in an hour, send in reinforcements to get Pete to stop hanging me out a window, hey?"
"Big bad ninja in training like you should be able to handle a bit of dangling," was the response.
