Jay & Angel log - Backdated
Mar. 11th, 2008 02:51 amJay comes to find Angel. They go in for a short flight and step up to a challenge
Jay crashed down a little too fast, his feet skidding before he was forced into a stumble that nearly sent him sprawling. After a long day of tedious work, he was over tired with over exertion of using his
wings all day long and landing softly had become an impossible task for him to manage. His knees kept buckling everytime he touched down, neglecting to pull up too late and more than once today, he had tripped, stumbled and decided that he needed more water before he fell
over.
"Hey! Angel --" he said breathlessly and bent over, pressing his hands into his knees. As he couldn't catch his breath, Jay gestured to her to wait for a moment longer before he forced himself upright and smiled. "They.. need you.. over.. ." he paused to swallow, gesturing
northwards. ". ..there somewhere." He didn't know street names - he hadn't been paying attention - but knew where they needed her which was why he was sent to get her.
Angel stared at him, a hot dog sticking out of her mouth in mid-bite. She'd finished up her assignment at her current location and had decided to hit up the lunch truck for some grub before wandering off. Remembering to actually chew, she managed to eat enough to clear her
mouth before attempting to answer.
"Heya, Jay. They, uh, need me where again?" She craned her neck but there was no telling where her fine feathered friend had come from.
Dropping his head, he let it hang for a moment, gesturing behind him and then held up a finger for her to wait a moment. Once he had caught his breath, he stood upright and smirked. "Sorry, they got me flyin' all over God's country an' back. Ya wanna just follow me?" he asked, stretching his wings before beating his wings down to catch the faint breeze. "Ya'll seen Kevin 'round?" he asked. God, he just couldn't help himself lately. He had to ask everyone about Kevin.
"Not lately," Angel responded before quickly finishing the hot dog. At the flying suggestion, she was nearly bouncing off the ground in anticipation. She was going to ignore the whole 'kiss on the cheek by Jay's boyfriend' thing so she just continued with, "Last time I saw him, he was chasing me around and throwing me in dirt." She bounced on her toes and was suddenly hovering an inch of the ground. "Come on, old man, lead the way!"
"Ha! ol' man! " Jay scoffed as he turned in the air and beat his wings harder to gain height. "Why was he chasin' ya 'round?" he asked over his shoulder and turned in the direction they were suppose to be headed."Ya didn' say somethin' ta piss 'em off did ya?"
With a gentle thrust so as not to scorch the ground too much, Angel was up after him. She stayed a decent distance away -- far enough not to have it get too uncomfortably hot but close enough to have something resembling a conversation. "I stole his wallet," Angel laughed, weaving slightly in sheer joy of the flight. The fire part was awesome but there was something so freeing about flight...
"Ya, that'll do it," he mused, beating his wings harder. "At least ya see 'em more than me lately. Hey, ya don' fly much do ya?" he asked as he came up next to her, but not so close that he would burn any of his feathers off.
She shot him an indignant look as she flopped onto her back, effectively doing the backstroke in the air. "Say what and how?" Angel scoffed with a sniff. "I so fly all the time. I just need to work on the whole stamina thing. Your big brother taught me tons before he left and I'm still in the flight class. So there, nyah!"
Pausing, Jay soared, letting the light breeze carry him up and rotated until he was mimicking her. It didn't work so well as she and tucked his body into his wings, rolling to the right in a dive. At the last second, his wings fanned out, beating to bring him back up and dodging to the left. "It don' beat havin' wings though!"
Angel tried to figure out a good comeback but he was kind of right. The wings were awesome. Still, she gave it a good try. "I can set stuff on fire!" she called back, turning in a lazy circle. She had no idea where they were headed but it felt good to get up off the ground and stretch some other things.
"Yeh! Ah reckon ya can!" he smiled as she pointed out the obvious. "But how long can ya stay in tha air without fizzlin' out?"
"Huh, I dunno yet," Angel responded. "Each time I practice I get more and more stamina. Never gone full hog before, though. How long for you?"
"Ah don' know either. Ah don' time it. Just whenever Ah get tired. Ah can go a lot longer than ya, Ah think, only cause Ah can catch a breeze an' sore on it while takin' a break. Ah don' hafta go at full throttle. Are ya gettin' tired? Need a break?" He smirked at her.
At that, Angel's eyes narrowed and her jaw stuck out. "Oh, is that a challenge, old man?" she jeered back and then grinned, having spotted where they were probably going in the distance. "Last one there is the other's personal assistant for the rest of the day!" The fire shield around her rippled into a deeper blue and roared as she threw her powers fully into the thrust.
"Old Man??" Jay howled back and beat his wings harder, gaining in height and speed, then tucked his wings and set into a dive. "Beat'cha there youngin'!"
