Jan. 24th, 2004 09:04 pmAs he'd promised over the journal system, Shinobi had taken just long enough to grab a movie and a pack of cigarettes before hurrying his way out of his unnaturally quiet room and down to the basement, having done what he felt was an admirable job of restraining himself when he'd spotted Pete on his way down. He'd probably get in trouble if he beat him with his own cane. So, he instead ignored him entirely and focused on getting down to the boiler room, halting in front of the door and lifting a hand to knock. "Bloody movie and nicotine delivery!"
Curled up on the couch, and looking vaguely like hell, Sarah looked up from her perch with a grin. "Come on in!" she said, raising her voice to be heard over Jono's music.
Pushing the door open long enough to duck inside, Shinobi takes a quick little look around before spotting Sarah, offering a slight grin and he closes the door behind himself with his foot. He looks fairly exhausted, himself, but he's doing a decent job of hiding it. "Hey. I'd ask how you're feeling, but then you'd ask me how I was feeling, and it's just a vicious circle like that. So." He hoists the DVD. "Gore?"
"And blood and violence and such. Yes please." Picking up a soda from the floor, she took the last sip and launched the can across the room. It hit the wall and fell to the floor somewhere in the general direction of the trashcan. Moving to one side of the couch, she pulled her legs up underneath her. "And how _are_ you feeling?"
"Guess I asked for that one," Shinobi murmurs to himself, smiling wryly and moving towards the TV, giving the pack of cigarettes and his lighter a well-aimed toss in Sarah's general direction. "I'm.. better than I think I should be. The only reason I've lost sleep since I found out you were alright is because I wasn't losing sleep because of anything else, if that makes sense at all." With a faint shrug, he pops the disc into the player and sets the DVD box down before migrating towards the sofa, dropping down to sit next to her and automatically lifting an arm for her to tuck herself up under. "What about you?"
And tuck she does. She fits herself right there in the space beside him, one boned hand resting idly on his leg. "Nobody expects you to be losing sleep. I'm not losing sleep." She lights up a cigarette, taking a few silent puff off of it before continuing. "Though I'd really like to know why my head still hurts."
The contact gets him to relax, though he hadn't realized he was tense in the first place, a smile briefly breaking free as he leans down to kiss the top of Sarah's head. "Mention it to one of the doctors yet?" Shinobi asks, tilting his head curiously. "I'd _hope_they could figure something like that out.. haven't spoken to Shiro yet?"
"Yes. I've told the docs I've got a headache enough times that it's probably why they let me out in the first place." And then she stops, takes another puff off of her cigarette and sighs. "No, I haven't talked to him yet. He said he would come find me, and then he never did." She reaches over Shinobi's lap to get the ashtray sitting by his feet on the floor, moving it to the floor in front of her before flicking ashes into it. "I have no idea what happened."
"That doesn't sound like him," Shinobi frowns, running his free hand's fingers back through his hair with a brief narrowing of his eyes. Something was vehemently not right here. "Your barely-done post to the system was _before_ all the shooting started, I think," he says after a moment.
"I don't know. We heard shots, ran upstairs, and I woke up in the medlab. That's it." It's obvious in her voice that this really bothers her. She doesn't like not knowing what happened and who to hurt. A bone pushes through on the side opposite Shinobi, right in betweeen her shoulder and her neck, she pulls it out with a scowl, and a wince, and it takes the path of the empty soda can, across the room and at the far wall."
"I wish Tessa were here," Shinobi mumbles, frowning apologetically at Sarah as the bone goes sailing across the room, waiting a moment before he explains. "Woman back home, works with my father, but she always liked me because she wasn't very fond of _him_, either. Telepath. Unlike most of the stiffs here, she'd probably be willing to go looking, if you wanted her to." Idly, he reaches up to tuck a few loose strands of her hair back behind an ear, making a thoughtful noise. "Maybe Emma?"
"Maybe." She takes a drag off her cigarette and shrugs slighty. "I don't like people in my head." The scowl on her face is clear that she's not considering this option very closely, in fact, she'd really rather forget it if she could.
Shinobi can't help but quirk an eyebrow as he gets that impression. She'd warned him about one of the telepaths in the mansion all of, what, a week ago, and now she didn't even seem to think it plausible. That's.. worrisome. Shaking himself, he nods faintly, shifting in place just enough to lightly pillow his head against her shoulder. "We'll figure it out."
Sarah nods slowly, resting her cheek gently on his head. "I hope so." She sits there, quietly, because it feels like the thing to do at the moment. It's the first time she's been really comfortable in a day or two.
"Don't hope it. Know it. As corny as that sounds." Briefly making a face, Shinobi drapes his free arm across Sarah's lap, letting his eyes slowly drift closed. It is rather comfortable, isn't it?
Sarah laughs, just a little, shifting to put out her cigarette and leaning back again. "Thanks for coming down," she says softly, entwining her free hand with his.
"Always happy to come be with you. You'll figure it out eventually." With a playful grin, Shinobi gives her fingers a light squeeze, lifting his head so that he can give her cheek a warm kiss.
"Eventually, yeah." With a smile, she turns and catches his lips with her own. After a moment, she pulls back and smiles. "So much for the movie, huh?"
He seems quite willing to have his lips caught, smiling lopsidedly when she pulls back. "I doubt I'd stay awake through the whole thing, either, even if it's Tarantino. We can always watch it when we're conscious again."
"So we're agreed? Sleep?" She shifts on the couch, curling into him again, head resting on his chest, right beneath his chin. "Are you up for sharing a bed, or do we need to keep the couch tonight?"
"Sleep," Shinobi agrees, comfortably resting his chin against the top of her head with a lazy smile. "And I think I'm up for a bed, though moving is slightly more questionable.. this is terribly comfortable."
"It is. Damn." She doesn't make any effort to move, instead curls just a little bit closer. "I think we can let Clarice have the bed tonight."
"I can always sleep down here tomorrow, if Jono and Clarice wouldn't object," Shinobi offers through a wide yawn, his eyes falling closed before he can give them permission to do such a thing. He knew he'd had something else to say, but.. really, it could easily wait until after they both got a bit of sleep. Couldn't it?
