Kurt stops by to check on Wanda. After she throws a vase at him, some things are discussed and others are decidedly not.

Kurt had been giving Wanda space, knowing she needed to recover from her kidnapping both physically and otherwise. But there was only so long he could put up in silence with her avoiding him - and besides, he wanted to let her know he was still there if she needed him.

He bypassed the doors in his entrance, choosing to appear straight in Wanda's apartment.

Something flew by and barely missed his head before crashing into the wall. The vase shattered as Wanda appeared, one hand over her heart as the red light around her wrists faded. "I just nearly gave you brain damage," she said after a moment, staring at him. His arrival had been sudden and with the incident with Stevens still fresh in her mind, she had reacted out of instinct. If she'd been a second slower, the heavy vase could have injured him instead of simply creating a mess. She frowned down on it. That was the second one she'd destroyed in the last few months.

"I should have given you more warning", Kurt returned apologetically. "Are you all right?"

"Besides almost having a heart attack and nearly attacking you a moment ago?" she asked, turning to fetch the broom and dustbin. "Fine, fine…" Her words were slightly mocking but not towards him, more of a self-mocking than anything else. Wanda reappeared with the items she'd been looking for and went to attack the pile. "Is something wrong? Why the sudden stop over with no warning?"

"Nothing is wrong with me", he said, watching her carefully. "I wanted to see you, that is all. It has been some time."

For a moment, she didn't answer but instead focused on cleaning up the shards of broken glass – she had a habit of walking barefoot in her apartment and she would rather not step on something painful. When she was done, Wanda stood and sighed. "I'm sorry, Kurt, I suppose I have been rather neglectful as of late. I have just…needed some space. A lot of space and I know that it could not have been easy on you."

"I did understand that", was the gentle response. "That is why I have not come before... but I did not wish to seem neglectful in turn."

At that, Wanda gave him a legitimate, warm smile. "That, Kurt, is one thing no one could ever accuse you of. No, the last few weeks have all been because of me and I admit this freely. The last thing I wanted was to inflict any of what I have been going through on someone else. Besides Sofia, of course." One day, she would ask her friend how she managed to find them but it was hard enough working through her own dealings. Later.

"That is what we are here for", he reminded her, smiling back if a little worriedly. "There was no need for you to go through it all alone."

The last time she had shared it had caused stress and the eventual breakup but Wanda didn't say that. It wasn't fair to Kurt to say that, or to herself. "You'll have to forgive my stubborn and independent streak in this regard," she said, firmly but not unkindly. She cared for him a great deal but opening herself up like that, at least now, was not in the cards. "There are many things I share without hesitation..." She reached for his hand. "But there are a number of things that I do not indulge in such a way."

He wrapped thick fingers around hers, nodding in reluctant understanding. "As long as you know that we - that I - will be here at any time should you change your mind."

"Of that, I had no doubt. You're a good man, Kurt, and I'm lucky to have your friendship and affection."

"You will always have my affection", Kurt told her, looking - up - into her eyes. "I want you to know that..."

There was a voice in the back of Wanda's mind - one that whispered careful warnings like "Watch your back" or "Take out the guard before he can shoot you" and she had never failed to listen to it. The problem was that, now, at the look on Kurt's face, his words, his very tone it was chanting very quietly "runrunrunrun". She swallowed and ignored both it and the hidden meaning. "I suppose I should thank you for coming to check on me," Wanda said suddenly, her tone shifting the mood in the room to something entirely different.

Sex was a perfectly good distraction.

That tone was a little harder to ignore, even if Kurt had had reason or desire to. He smiled, raising a hand to her face. "You do not need to thank me. But if you want to..."

Wanda smirked, just a little, and the feeling of uncomfortableness vanished. "Oh, trust me, I do."
