After this, Jay passes by Tommy's suite and tries for an apology.
He just wanted out of the suite. He wasn't working until 11:30 tonight and logged off his computer, trying to find some sort of distraction that didn't involve feeling like shit. He shouldn't have asked Tommy, he knew that because it wasnt' the root of the problem and he knew that all those problems he had ticking off in his head fell on him. He was the problem, with him, with Kevin, with music, with Tommy.
Closing the door of his suite - more like slamming it - Jay stood outside for a moment, trying to quelch the sickening feeling he got when he felt things were going absolutly wrong. He should just go to work early and be done with it. Get out of the mansion and stay out for the weekend. But where would he go? A motel? Maybe. Maybe something like that. Stay somewhere that wasn't the suite where he would knowing listen to everything Kevin did as he moved around during the day. Getting ready for prom.
Turning down the hallway, Jay began to think he should just pack up some food and do just that. Leave for the weekend. It was better than staying here.
Tommy had been staring at his computer screen for a while, chewing on the end of a pencil that he had been using to take notes from his English history class, which had been forgotten for a while as he'd responded to Jay's post. He still didn't believe the other boy was serious, how could he be? The thought was absurd but something was definitely going on and he couldn't help being curious.
Still this wasn't his business, so Tommy went back to his notes. IF jay wanted to talk about this, he knew where he could find him.
He stopped at Tommy's door, lifting his hand to knock but recoiled it and tucked it into his other. It was there that he figeted, going over what he should have said and not what he had over the journals. It was a last desperate attempt to go with someone and not by himself, though it seemed like he would end up going to work instead. He hated that. He didn't want to go to work but he also didn't want to spend the night, watching his boyfriend escorting around some girl he didn't know. This was too fucked up, way too fucked up and he knocked on the door, despite himself.
"Tommy, it's Jay," he called against the frame. He looked like a puppy that had been punched in the face.
That made him look up from his book. Tommy stared as hit door for a moment before he put his notebook in his textbook to mark his place before closing it, though he kept it in his lap. "Come in." Once the other boy opened the door, Tommy couldn't hide the shock in his eyes, "I'll admit, I didn't think you'd want to talk about this so soon..."
Jay paused with his hand on the knob and gestured, behind him. "Yanno, Ah can jus' come back 'nother time. Ah just' wanted ta say sorry, but yeh, whatever. Ah'll go." He started to back out of the room, his face reddening from embarrassment. Maybe he should just stop talking today. Stupidity. That should be his mutation.
Tommy bit the inside of cheek. He knew he really shouldn't get involved in whatever was going on...but Jay had involved him already by asking him to prom, whether he meant it or not. Tommy still didn't think he'd been serious. "Jay...what's going?" He asked with a small sigh. "You obviously weren't serious, but something is clearly going on."
Jay just wanted to leave. He'd said enough on the journals, to his boyfriend, just enough. He shouldn't have stopped and considered just closing the door like he hadn't heard, or ignore it. His hesitation made it too late for that and he ran a nervous, frustrated hand through his hair, not making a move to let himself in, or leave.
"Ah was serious Tommy," Jay said, exasperated. "Mah boyfriend's goin' wit' someone else - a girl an' Ah didn' wanna go alone, lookin' like a loser. Already too late fer tha' so Ah'm jus' gonna go to work an' maybe ya'll will accept my apology an' jus' ferget that Ah said anything, okay?"
"You don't want to go alone, so you asked me?" Tommy...didn't really know what to think about that. At all. "So...was I a last resort or did you actually want to go with me?" He had no idea what to think about that and he was opening showing plain shock on his face.
"Bit o' both maybe?" There was that hesitation again, that wanting to crawl into a hole and just die there."Ah thought.. Ah don't know," he stopped himself because really, he just didn't want to go there on reasons why he thought to bring Tommy above anyone else. Hole. Die. Now. "Yanno, Ah should just go. Ah wanna get ta work early an' stuff."
"Alright." If Jay was so insistent to go, Tommy wasn't going to be the one to stop him. But before Jay could leave, he added, "You know...I won't say no if you want to talk anytime."
The door started to close and Tommy's words hung over him. "Yeh Ah know," he said quietly into the door as he closed it. He'd get his guitar, a small bag of clothes and leave. He couldn't stay here another minute.
