Inez gets caught up in the flurry of Red X activity.
Inez stood in the center of the suite scratching her head in confusion. Tatiana had packed a bag and rushed off, Cessily wasn't anywhere to be found, and people seemed to be rushing places talking about floods. She thought she'd heard something about floods on the news, but certainly not here.
Taking a step out into the hallway, she ducked back as someone rushed by with a quick "Sorry!" before vanishing down the steps.
"What in the hell's going on?" Inez wondered aloud.
Slower due to her usual habit of taking care not to bump into anyone, Yvette heard Inez's question as she made her way down the hallway. "You did not see the journals?" she said in response. "There is the Red X mission, in Iowa with the flooding."
"Oh, the Red Cross thing?" Inez replied, walking alongside Yvette. "Tat was mentioning it, I think. Wow, this is pretty much everyone grabbing their stuff and going, isn't it? You guys practice for this or something?"
Yvette nodded. "There is the training, once the month. But sometimes, when there is the emergency, it is okay for the people who are not the members to help. Which is why Tatiana is going." She smiled a little. "It is good, to be helping with the powers."
"Yeah, it's..." Inez's voice grew quiet as she thought about the past months at the school, learning more about what she could do, even if most of it involved Marko throwing huge rocks at her. She remembered the first time in the Danger Room and lifting that car off the trapped "child", and how it felt to do something like that, even if it hadn't been real. And then she thought about how her friends were all going out to deal with something very real.
"Yo, who do I see about volunteering?" Inez suddenly asked, looking down at Yvette. "I mean, I've seen the news, it's kinda bad out there. I figure you guys might be able to use some extra hands, right?"
Yvette's eyes glowed brightly as she nodded again. "Oh, yes, we will be needing all the help we can have." She grinned a little. "I will wait for you if you want to be packing some things for the two or three days? Then I can take you to the person you need to speak to."
"All right!" Inez said, then composed herself. Why was this actually exciting to her? It wasn't like she had ever dreamed of growing up to be some kind of rescue worker. It just seemed... right. "I mean, um, I'll meet you back here in five?"
"Of course." Yvette beamed. "Welcome to the Red X."
