Working on the water purification system mentioned here, Yvette shows she's not the most mechnically minded and gets help from someone who is.
It wasn't finished yet. But it was getting damn near.
Callisto rolled out from beneath the undercarriage of the jet, the best part of both lower arms covered with grease, and retrieved a rag from her pocket to wipe her hands as she stood, taking a few steps back.
Okay, Forge. You win. Not 'just' a jet.
She smiled a little, thinking over the parts she'd played in putting the machine together with no small measure of satisfaction. Least I'm doing something useful around here...
From over in the corner of the hanger where several boxes marked as being from the Red Cross had appeared came a frustrated noise and muttering that wasn't in English. Glimpses of a red spiky head could be seen on the other side of the pile, revealing the origin of the sounds - obviously Yvette was having trouble with something.
Raising her eyebrows and sticking her hands in her overall pockets, Callisto sauntered over, prodding one of the boxes with her foot. "Care packages?" she asked with a smirk.
"Not so much." Yvette looked up from a pile of metal pieces - some kind of pump, by the looks - with a small sigh of frustration. Her hair and hands reflected her aggravation, sharpened to points. "It is the water pump, for the Sri Lanka trip. We are supposed to be making it go together before we are leaving, but I am not so good with the machines. I cannot see how the pieces go together." She indicated a piece of paper with instructions. "It is being the fool proof, the Red Cross people are saying," she grumbled. "So I must be the fool."
The brunette poursed her lips, coming up behind Yvette to survey the plan over her shoulder. Blueprints were not her strong point - she worked better with things she could learn as she went - but the design was immediately interesting for its deceptive simplicity.
"Huh. No, not foolproof. They've streamlined it so much it's kinda deceptively simple, see, 'cause this bit here..." she reached over and pointed. "...well, that has to fit into this section and this section as well, which means you've gotta them in the right order..."
"Could you be helping me?" Yvette asked, hopefully. "If you are not being so busy with your work?"
Callisto glanced back at the jet, then at the plan, making a face. "I guess I could spare a moment..." she said. The truth was she did have things to do, but that purification set-up... she'd never built any kind of filter before anyway, of course, but she doubted most were quite so ingenious in their simplicity.
Yvette's eyes lit up. "I would be very much appreciating it!" she said, hair visibly beginning to relax back into its normal state. "And perhaps I could be getting you the lunch, as the thank you?"
"Don't worry about it," Callisto said with a wave of her hand, already reaching for the schematic, her eyes narrowing with interest.
