Yvette and Callie
Oct. 23rd, 2008 09:15 pmYvette goes to visit Callie in the infirmary bringing gifts and conversation.
It had taken a little while to convince Dr. Amelia that she'd had the chicken pox before and was unlikely to be able to get it again given her powers, but eventually Yvette was allowed into the infirmary. Armed with books, DVDs and CDs donated by the Teen Girl Suite(s), Yvette tapped on the door to Callie's room, her hardened skin ringing off the metal. "Hello?" she called. "Are you wanting the visitor?"
Callie opened her eyes at the sound of Yvette's tapping and slowly pulled herself into a sitting position. "Hey Yvette," she said, her voice weaker than normal. She had been quite bored in the infirmary, having nothing to do and no energy to do it with, so she welcomed the visit. "Sure. Come on in. How was camping?"
"How are you feeling?" Yvette asked, looking over the other girl as she came in and lay her burden on the bed. Callie looked sick. "The camping was fun. Perhaps we can ask to go again so you can be coming too?"
"Better," groaned the spotted girl as she rubbed her eyes. What time was it? Callie had no way to tell, not that it made a difference as she would be back to sleeping as soon as she could. "That would be fun. Have a seat?" She managed a small smile then glanced at the pile of goods on her bed. "What are these?"
"Things to be helping you not be bored. It can be very dull down here." Yvette had only spent a little time in the infirmary after waking from her coma, but they'd been long, dull days indeed once she'd gotten over her initial fear. "All of the girls tried to be lending something." She paused, and pulled a face. "Well, most of them."
Callie reached out and picked up a DVD, her smile widening. "Aw thank you Yvette. That's so kind of you." She furrowed her brow at Yvette's change in tone. "What's wrong?"
"Oh, not so much. Just that we were camping with Karolina, and she was not being so much the, how you say? Team person. She was not helping us so much at all, and complaining all the time." Yvette wrinkled her nose. "I do not mind the complaining so much - Nori was to be complaining too - but you do not leave others to be doing your work."
Callie nodded. She honestly did not mind Karolina as much as all the other girls seemed to. "Maybe she felt like she was useless? Maybe like not one of you guys? On the outside?"
"Perhaps. She is not so very friendly when I am trying to talk to her." Although, to be honest, Yvette hadn't tried that hard - Karolina's attitude on the journals had been enough to make her shy away. "Maybe you are being right. But she is not making it so very easy to include her."
"She may not be the most..." Callie's voice trailed off. Her brain was cloudy and she was trying to figure out what to say. "She isn't really... Once you get to know her she's not as bad as everyone thinks." She paused. "It's kinda like that dessert that they light on fire? I forget what it's called. But beneath the flames it's really good." Callie shrugged and absentmindedly scratched her arm.
Yvette began to reach out to stop Callie scratching, but stopped herself, not sure how someone would react to her doing that after what had happened to Laurie, even with gloves on. "I will try to remember that and not be so... bitchy? That is the word, yes?"
"Oh no," her eyes widened and Callie stopped itching, grasping at the blanket instead. "You're not.. Not you. Not at all. I wasn't saying... She just needs a chance. And it's hard to be part of something when you feel like no one wants you there."
Yvette's eyes flared, her version of a blush. "Like when I am coming here, and my friends are becoming the X-Men trainees," she admitted. "It was feeling like I did not belong, because I was too young."
There was a spot on her neck that wouldn't stop itching, so Callie grabbed a bottle of calamine lotion from her bed side and rubbed it on, turning her skin a lighter shade of pink than it already was. "I did too," she confided meekly. "But it takes a friend to be a friend."
Yvette wanted to wrinkle her nose again. She didn't like Karolina. But Callie was right - perhaps the girl just needed to be included and made to feel part of things. "Perhaps when you are better we can be doing something with her, yes?" she suggested. At least that way she wouldn't be putting up with Karolina alone.
Callie mustered up a brief nod in agreement. "We should. It'll be fun. Maybe go apple picking? Or even just going to the park?" She picked up a DVD. She hadn't ever heard of it, but it looked mindless and fun. "Would you like to watch? Or you probably have homework."
Yvette grinned. "I do, but I can be doing it later. It is history, the class I am good at, not the math." She dragged the visitor's chair to where she'd be able to see the TV and reached out to take the DVD to put it in the machine. "I was wanting to bring the popcorn, but Dr. Dracula is saying no, it is too messy in the bed."
At the mention of History, Callie groaned; she didn't want to be reminded of how much work she was probably missing. There was not much she could do about it right now. "My throat hurts too much for popcorn. I haven't eaten in awhile. Maybe Dr. Voght will let us have some ice cream?"
"I think I can be getting some of that." A briefly mischievous smile crossed Yvette's face. "I am being the Apple Ninja, after all."
