Set only hours after Clarice arrived back at Xavier's from Manhattan. Her dad comes to check on her.

Clarice hadn't had time yet to shower or get herself cleaned up. She had gone straight to the medlab to restock her medical supplies and begin dealing with the wounded they had brought home. This was far from over, the rebuilding and whatnot. She'd go back and help soon, but not yet. Right now, she had to restock. Organize. Think. Just....take some time to process everything that had happened. Grabbing an energy drink from the food fridge down there, she worked quickly, adrenaline still making her move despite the exhaustion.

Outside, a black car sped into the driveway, stopping at the end. Jacob Ferguson looked up at the mansion as he stepped out of the car and closing the door behind him. Swiftly and deftly he pulled out his cell phone and dialed his daughter's number. He had no idea how she would react to this sudden and unexpected visit. Their relationship was still tumultuous at best, but he was still her father, and still had a right to be there. Especially now.

The sounds of Space Oddity coming from her cell phone jolted her back to reality. Right now, only those people in her phone labeled 'family' could call through, those being her parents only. "Yeah Dad?" she said, with a glance to the cell phone display and touching the headset still on her ear to turn it on. "...What? You're where?! Okay, gimme a sec and I'll be up," touching her headset again she looked down at herself. She was still in uniform. Her father had never seen her in uniform and more than that, she looked like she'd been fighting Apocalypse's minions for four days. Oh, wait. Pushing her hair down with her hands as she walked to the elevator to the main level she wondered if she even cared about her appearance right now. The answer, she realized with a start, was 'no.'
"I need the depositions on my desk by tomorrow morning," Jacob had decided to take care of some business as he waited. "And make sure to cancel all my meetings for today. I'm visiting my..." He trailed off as he caught sight of his daughter, looking as through she had been through hell and back. But at least she was alive. "Listen. I have to go. I'll be back tomorrow. I trust you to take care of everything." He clicked off the blackberry and pocketed it once more as he stepped forward. "Clarice?"

"Hi, Dad," she was acutely aware of how bad she looked still though she wasn't interested in changing that right now and very confused about why he was here. "Um. What are you doing here?" she asked, taking in his pressed khaki pants and polo shirt, well, at least he looked like her father. Except he was here, at Xavier's, a place he wasn't overly fond of visiting.

"I'm here to see you," he intoned almost as if it should be obvious. "What? A father can't visit his daughter? Now I've spent almost four hours in a car, so come on and give your father a hug." To show that his request was a serious one, Jacob slightly raised his arms away from his body and took another step toward his little girl.

Oh, yeah. Huh. Driving. Weird. "Sorry," she muttered, giving him a hug "I just didn't expect to see you. Here. Now. Um...it's been a long few days," way to go with stating the obvious, Clarice. "Want to come in? I think there are cookies. There were cookies a few days ago," she wasn't sure anymore to tell the truth. Everyone had gone out to help, to battle Apocalypse, to rescue and evacuate people, to do their part before the federal agencies could come in.

Eyes flickered down to his watch. "Can't. Lisa's worried about me as it is. With everything that's been happening. Well you know." He examined his daughter once more. He could tell that under the fatigue and grime of the last few days, his daughter was looking better than the last time he had seen her. She had gained some weight, and her hair was beginning to grow back. He noted this. "You're looking better. Were you... were you out there? In the city?"

Wait, he'd driven four hours just to stand on their doorstep and then leave? What? That was just..."Yeah," she nodded, still in uniform. This was probably the first time he had seen her in it, she realized. All black leather and badassedness, a far cry from the plaid miniskirts and Hello Kitty t-shirts she used to wear, "Just got back actually. It's over. I mean...the dude and his minions are in federal custody so we're not needed any more. You have to go? You just drove in."

"Not all of us can teleport," he lightly joked. "I needed to come down and make sure you're okay. We were really worried about you." He swallowed hard, trying to remain as emotional neutral as possible. "I just needed to see you with my own eyes."

The anger that was building melted away and she gave a wan smile and nod, "I'll come up soon for dinner, okay? I just gotta..." she glanced inside and gestured helplessly, "We have injured. And it's not over really...I mean, debriefing, reports...rebuilding. School," was it so insane to wonder if her professors would accept 'I was battling Apocalypse and his minions in NYC' as an excuse for not finishing her paper quite yet? Probably. "Or...I can 'port you back later?"

Jacob embraced his daughter once more. He didn't want his little girl to have to go through all of this, but, as he kept having to remind himself, she wasn't so little any more. She had grown up without his noticing really, and now he had to accept it. There were certain things that as a father he wanted to do, but couldn't. But he knew she could take care of herself. Still, he wanted her to know that he would be there no matter what. "You take care of what you need to here Clarice," he said, still hugging her. "You have your duties, and I have mine. Just come up and visit us when you can? I know everyone would want to see you."
