Cain gave Kyle the groundskeeping job, but Kyle's got nowhere near enough time with that and college. So he starts recruiting help, beginning with Yvette.

Kyle had procrastinated well past what even he was comfortable with in getting some of the less 'hands-on' parts of his new job done. Even though it had been his idea, and Mr. Haller had thought it was a good idea, he'd struggled with just how to ask a friend, one that he was trying to remember was -not- a little girl and was very nearly an adult in her own right, if she'd do part-time work for him. The idea of giving someone else a paycheck was intimidating.

But what had to be done had to be done no matter how much it reminded Kyle that he was really in over his head. So he finally told himself to suck it the hell up and went to find Yvette. A knock at her door went unanswered, and so he checked the next most likely space, the library.

Yvette was indeed in the library, returning some books she'd been using for school. She smiled as she caught sight of Kyle. "Hello!" she chirped, although softly since it was the library and you had to be quiet in the library. "I have been finishing that book you were talking about. You were being right - it was very good."

"Heya. You busy?" Kyle asked. He looked around the library, and made a thoughtful face. He could probably get away with asking here, as long as they weren't loud. "I gotta.. sort of a favor to ask, but only sorta."

"A sort of the favour?" Yvette wrinkled her nose in amused confusion, the expression highlighting the slight dent in her forehead from the fight with Famine. "Of course, Kyle. If I can be helping you, you only need to be asking."

"Sort of a favor, sort of a long-term project." Kyle explained, sitting on one of the tables, and leaning back to put his weight on his hands. "You know how you sometimes head out and make firewood when you need you time? You think you could do some of that more often, maybe hacking up some of the dead tree limbs if I mark them on a map?" He could spring the paycheck idea on her once he knew she was willing."

At once, she nodded. "Of course!" she replied happily - anything to be useful with her powers, instead of smashing things randomly when she was frustrated. "I always like to be helping and I like to be in the woods, so it is the two birds with the one rock, yes?"

"Yep. Or you know, a whole flock of birds." Kyle grinned widely. "It might be a little more than just whenever you're in a bad mood. You know Mr. Marko left, right? He sorta gave me his job, but I've got school and stuff, so I'm recruiting help." From the back pocket of his jeans, he pulled a folded set of papers. "There's a mess of paperwork, cause you're on a student visa, but Mr. Haller said the Professor could handle that. Want a part-time job?"

Her eyes had dimmed at the mention of Cain, but brightened again as Kyle went on. "You mean the work? For the money?" she asked, not quite believing it. Money was something she was always careful with, not wanting to take too much of the student grant the Professor had so kindly arranged and knowing her mother couldn't send much. "Oh, that is the wonderful idea! Thank you so much!" She clapped her hands together, practically bouncing on the spot. "I will be working very hard for you, Kyle!"

Kyle's grin managed to get bigger. As much as he'd been happy about a part-time job, Yvette seemed to be over the moon about it. Which was exactly what he'd wanted. "Yep. Paycheck and everything. I'm not gonna go crazy with the piling on work, but I could use the help, and you're the best person to ask for that kind of thing." And it'd be one more thing to make Yvette's power something positive instead of destructive, and Kyle had more than his fair share of personal experience with -that-.

"Even if there was not the paycheck, I would help." Although the money would definitely be useful - she'd be able to go out more with the other students without feeling guilty, for instance. "But having the job is the wonderful thing. Perhaps we can go to see Mr. Haller now? For the paperswork?" It was do something or hug Kyle, and she tried to avoid shredding people's clothing when they gave her a job.

Kyle hopped down from the table. "Sure. He can probably explain it better than I could, because dude, some of that paperwork makes my brain hurt." His own paperwork had made his brain hurt, and that was just income tax stuff. "And I can show you the big map Cain did of the grounds and how he used to mark stuff that was a problem or was gonna be a problem."

"I miss Mr. Marko," Yvette said, her eyes dimming again. "But I am glad he is giving the job to you. We will be taking care of things together, yes?"

"As best we can. And if I need more help, hey, even Mr. Marko had to get people to help out. I'm just gonna maybe have to get more." Mr. Haller had suggested some, and Kyle had a couple of thoughts of his own, but it needed to be done one step at a time.
