Nov. 21st, 2008 02:30 amWanda seeks answers
"~I don't know!~" the man sobbed as his legs drummed against the brick wall. The unnatural darkness was still there, only broken by flashlights or fires.
Or angry red rings that blazed in one small alleyway in the middle of the city.
Wanda slammed the man against the wall again and once more for good measure. "~Tell me,~" she snarled, keeping up as he rapidly switched between languages. "~You know the mutants I'm looking for or you have heard something. I want answers.~"
Tajo was a toady, someone Wanda knew because he always knew the answers simply because he wasn't big enough to be considered a threat. Everyone knew he couldn't be trusted but he managed to gather information since he wasn't important enough to kill.
"He's telling the truth," a voice interrupted and Wanda swung around, dropping Tajo to the ground. He sat there, stunned, as three men walked into the alley. "Tajo has no idea about these mutants you want information on. I, however, might have it."
Wanda waited.
"Ah, but even for a pretty lady like yourself, there'll be a price."
"And if I don't wish to pay your price?"
He shrugged and she saw the glint of knives.
Toasting with Pete, Betsy and Remy while they were trapped in the apartments; Garrison pulling those awful strings off of her; sharing a quiet moment with Pete after everyone else had gone home, heads bent over work or the relief in his voice when she called in from Washington; finding Garrison at Harry's and resigning herself to another night crashing at the Mansion...
"Different currency tonight," Wanda said softly, stalking forward. "You pay my price."
