Kevin & Nori
Nov. 23rd, 2008 10:02 amKevin shows up at Nori's suite with an attempt to make her feel better about when people don't tell her things. Living in his secluded bubble is brought to a halt when he finds out Jay was attacked and is now missing. Backdated! November 23
Kevin had spent a lot of time working on something for Nori after the last time she'd flipped out on him. Alright, maybe he wasn't exactly the cause or target, but flipping out near him still counted. He still had no idea what her thing with being told stuff was, but he had holed up in the shop to make something specifically for her. It was about a foot and a half tall and mostly made of differently colored wires. Kevin had even taken the time, which included most of the night a few times, to weave the rose at the base of the sculpture together. He wouldn't have associated Nori with a rose normally but he remembered seeing a tattoo on her arm of one back when it was warmer out. The rest of it couldn't easily be pinned. There seemed to be a fluidity to what were obviously lightning bolts and the blue wire bed the rose's head laid in could have been water. There were some jagged, harsh lines, but all throughout it were softer, curving lines through which the silver of the lightning bolts pierced.
Hopefully Nori was actually in her suite so he wouldn't have to hunt her down forever. Kevin knocked on the door and said a silent prayer she was inside. Where else would he end up looking for her? Half the time she was running and he was not in the mood to run around with a sculpture. Maybe he could just leave it at her door with a note if she wasn't around.
Luckily for Kevin, Nori was in her room. Well, perhaps this was lucky, given the positively thunderous look on her face when she opened the door; it was not her week, and on top of all of it she had approximately a pound and a half of homework. But the look of death was gone in an instant when she saw Kevin, flipping into a bright smile before scrunching up in confusion. "Kevin? What is?" she asked, stepping out of the doorway so he could come in to her room.
He was worried for a moment. Nori looked like she might actually kill someone at first and there Kevin was, standing in the way like an idiot about to turn into chicken fried steak when she no doubt shot a bolt of lightning at him. When the smile appeared his muscled relaxed, though he hadn't remembered them tensing. "Hey, Nori." He walked into the suit and glanced around to see if anyone else was around. Spotting no one, Kevin's attention shifted back to Nori. "Ah made you something," he told her as he held the sculpture out for her.
Nori's smile widened as she saw the sculpture. "Kevin very nice! Is most best friend. Was Kevin try not think? So make anou art?" Taking it from him, she turned it about in the air, looking at it from all sorts of angles. She seemed to hesitate briefly when she spotted the rose, but didn't say anything.
"Not think?" Kevin gave her a questioning look, not sure what she was talking about. "No, Ah thought maybe you should have something, sorta to say you matter and you're my friend even if I'm stupid and forget to tell you stuff sometimes." He gave her a sheepish smile, not sure if she might smack him for it anyway. "You like it?"
The girl hugged the sculpture to herself. "Is like very much. Nori is glad Kevin is want to say friend. Kevin is Nori very good friend." Setting the piece down on her desk, she leaned back against it. "How is Kevin? Is art not think? Is many bad thought, brain buzz buzz buzz, so do art? I is understand."
Kevin blinked at her. Then he repeated the gesture several times. "Ah don't. Why would my head be buzz buzz with bad thoughts? Did Ah miss part of this conversation somewhere?" Normally when Nori was being crazy it was obvious and kind of loud. She was being so normal otherwise that he couldn't figure out how she was managing to be crazy at the same time.
Noriko blinked right back at him, clearly convinced he was the crazy one. "Because Jay was attack? Jay and Kyle and Dani and the cop is missing. Frost-sensei said is dead maybe."
For a long, silent moment Kevin didn't react at all. He was actually trying to process her words and then figure out if she was messing with him, but he didn't think she was. "Uh, what?" His voice came out in a deadpan and he was convincing himself to not react yet but the way he immediately shoved his hands in his pockets was telling.
"Ehhh... Kevin is didn't know?" Nori looked surprised and chagrined. She knew she was not really the most tactful of people, but this was a whole new level of bad. "Frost-sensei is say on journal. She is have more knowing, maybe..."
"Ah didn't," he said slowly. It was sinking in. She wasn't kidding. Jay was attacked. Jay was maybe dead. And it was on the journals of all places! "Ah don't really read the journals that much." The words came in a belated manner, eyes unfocused as he kept trying to imagine Jay just not being around.
"Oh." Nori considered this for a second, then turned around and flipped open the laptop on her desk. It took her only a second to pull up the right page, although it took her a little longer to switch it back to displaying in English. "Kevin is want see? Is understand more good than Nori say."
He nodded, the look on his face rapidly becoming vacant. Kevin shuffled over to Nori and peered at the screen. It took him a few seconds for his brain to catch up and make sense of the words. Once he was done reading it he just stared at the screen and whispered, "Ah didn't even know. He made me agree to some stupid dinner date in December," his voice trailed off as Kevin realized he was already starting to talk about Jay the way people talked about dead people.
Nori caught that too and winced, really not liking having been the one to tell Kevin. In theory this was a chance to help him or something. Be a shoulder to lean on maybe. If she had had any interpersonal skills at all. As it was, she sort of shuffled her feet. "Mark is right, maybe. Is don't know..."
"Yeah, maybe." Kevin grew silent again and time stretched on forever. It was only a half a minute before he spoke but it seemed closer to a half an hour in his head. "Sorry, Nori, Ah...Ah gotta go. Ah'll see you later, okay?" He just had to get away from her and process this. And maybe find answers from someone who knew more. If anyone knew more. Terry, maybe, even though he was loathe to go to her for anything, especially anything related to Jay.
Noriko nodded. "Is understand. I very sorry, Kevin," she added, though she knew him too well to try and offer any physical comfort.
He managed a twitching of one side of his mouth that passed for an attempt at smiling. "Yeah. Thanks." He tried to think of something better to say but when Kevin came up with nothing he just gave her half a nod and left.
