While "studying" Julian encounters a purple, seemingly attention starved, cat (backdated to Saturday night).

Julian was sitting in a parlor room on the first floor with his laptop, reading over some of the comments people had made about him again. He’d been popular enough back home, everyone wanted to be his friend, particularly girls; who had lined up to get a date with the young, handsome and athletic Keller, until he’d started dating Cas at least. The memory of Cas gave him pause, she’d turned her back on him when he needed her most- though he couldn’t exactly blame her, since Cas’ entire family were members of the Friends of Humanity. Now, it seemed he was the object of attention again- the only male in an all female class.

Julian looked at the time in the bottom right hand corner of the screen, it was getting late. He forced himself to close the computer and to pick up a book, which he was supposed to have read the night before. It was bland text, something about business mathematics- which he already had a firm grasp of. It was so dry that he couldn’t read it in his room without starting to nod off, which he was doing anyway in the parlor.

Catseye had liberated a shiny plastic Christmas ball from Evan's Christmas tree- not one of the special ones he particularly liked that friends or family had given to him, just a plain old ball that had been part of a package of bargain store Christmas tree decorations; tree filler, really. She knew Evan wouldn't mind. It was red and so shiny Catseye could almost see her face in it. She'd hidden it in one of the classrooms earlier, and now she was racing around the first floor of the mansion amusing herself thoroughly by batting it as hard as she could. After one particularly enthusiastic swipe the ball shot off into a parlour room and Catseye pursued it madly, careening through the doorway as the ball spun across the room. It took a turn and the purple cat skidded to chase it. The ball kept going, but her sudden change of direction had driven Catseye straight into a pair of legs and knocked her to her side.

The sudden jolt against his legs woke Julian right up, though he thought he was sleeping at first when he saw a purple cat at his feet. He looked around and then at his wrist watch, everything else seemed normal. “Ugh, I shouldn’t have had that second helping,” Julian groaned, rubbing his eyes and setting his book aside. He looked back down at the cat and stuck a hand out, carefully, to let it get his scent. “Hey, you okay, little buddy?”

NewBoy, Catseye thought to herself, pleased. "Mrrt." She picked herself up and gave his fingers a dignified, curious cat sniff. After completing the ritual, the purple cat padded up to him and bumped against his legs entwining herself around them. When she'd circled him once, she approached his side and put her front paws on his knee. "Mrrrrrrt!" Pet the cat now, please!

The book was boring and it was late, so Julian closed it- making sure to mark his page for ease of reference. He'd never seen a purple cat before, but then again he'd never seen a girl with rainbow skin before either, so he didn't think much of it. Now that the feline seemed to have accepted him, Julian reached down and stroked his new furry friend behind its ears. He set the business math book aside and settled back into his seat with a sigh, continuing to lazily stroke the cat's head. 'I wonder if pets are allowed on the furniture,' he thought for a moment.

Catseye set to purring loudly and after several moments of skritching, she jumped into his lap, kneading her paws into his thigh and rubbing up against his chest.

Julian smiled and remembered the cat they’d had for a week in his childhood, before his mother discovered that James was allergic and they had to get rid of it. He’d loved the pet dearly and still had a picture of him stashed away in a box of photos underneath his bed. “Wow, you’re really affectionate…you’d think no one here ever pays any attention to you.” Julian continued to pet the cat, scratching behind its ears and under its chin.

"Mew!" Catseye can never get enough attention when it is this kind of attention! She purred even more loudly, bumping his chin with the top of her head affectionately.

Julian started to settle back into a sort of daze again, stroking the cat and thinking about the start of classes the next morning. Suddenly he remembered Catseye’s question about his position on purple cats sleeping in his bed, “You,” he scratched its ears, “must belong to Catseye.” ‘I wonder why she doesn’t let you sleep in-oh! I bet you got out you little devil. “Well, let’s get you back to your owner.” Julian slowly moved the cat off his lap and stood up, starting to gather his things.

"Mrrrrrrt!" Catseye does not have an owner, SillyNewBoy! She remembered the Christmas tree ball and shot off towards it, pouncing vehemently on it and batting it off the wall several times before picking it up by the ribbon Evan had tied around it and carrying it over to Julian like a prize. "Mrrt?" Does NewBoy want to play?

He pushed his laptop into the right spot and slung his messenger bag over his shoulder before looking down at the cat. “What do you have there?” he removed the ornament from its mouth gently and examined it. “Looks like a tree ornament,” he said, turning the bobble in the dim, incandescent lights of the parlor. It was the dim light that made him remember the time, if anything Catseye was probably sleeping, as was everyone else and that meant no one to tell him where to find her room. After a moment of thought, Julian decided it was better to have the purple cat come with him than to let it run rampant around the mansion all night- destroying the low hanging Christmas ornaments. He dangled the bulb in front of the cat for a moment before scooping it up and heading upstairs for the night.
