Julian meets Kurt & Triscuit
Dec. 14th, 2008 03:07 pmWhile working on a paper Julian meets Kurt, who's taking Triscuit for a walk. (Backdated to Saturday afternoon)
Julian was in the rec room with his laptop, writing a paper while a movie played in the background. He’d been focusing on it for the last two hours, but was finding it hard to get past the second page. Back home, papers and projects were never assigned over weekends- or if they were the teacher wasn’t around for much longer. It was a system that worked for him, but he knew things were going to be different out here. There was snow on the ground now, that alone was putting him into a bit of a bitter mood. The fact that Nathan hadn’t contacted him about starting up his powers training was also bugging him- though he had found the weight room and there’d been things there big enough for him to practice independently on. He turned his attention back to his paper, which had to be done if he was going to attend the bonfire tonight.
Kurt didn't usually go into the rec room without specific reason - in fact, he hadn't intended to today, but he had been passing on his way out with Triscuit, and the puppy had caught either the sound of the movie or Julian's scent, and was now determinedly nosing the ajar door further open to get in. Kurt, on the other end of the leash and not wanting to choke the little dog, went along with it, stepping into the room.
"Hello?"
Julian heard someone coming in but didn’t bother to look up. He’d just found his groove and didn’t want to lose it. “Hey,” he said as he waved a hand in the general direction of the door. “Go ahead and change the movie if you want.”
Seeing that the boy was working, Kurt made more of an effort to restrain Triscuit before he got overexcited and started jumping. "No need, my dog only wanted to see who it was. You are Julian, yes?"
Julian finally looked up to see who was there, the appearance of the man at the door startled him a little at first, but he’d seen weirder things in the last couple days…but not by far. He did his best to conceal his surprise, “Oh, hello…yes, I’m Julian.” He glanced at the dog then back at the yellow eyes and blue fur, “Um, who are you?”
"Kurt Sefton", he answered with a smile. "Teacher of German and gymnastics here. Welcome to the school." If he noticed the surprise, he didn't comment on it - honest surprise was almost the best reaction he could hope for, even here.
“Oh, hello Mister Sefton,” he said with a slight smile. He was still a little nervous after being startled, but it was nice to be in a place where he was surrounded by other people like him- even if he could pass as a flatscan, he didn’t want to. “How are you doing tonight?”
"Well enough, thank you." He grinned. "I was taking the puppy out to enjoy the snow. And you?"
He pointed at the laptop, “Just working on a paper that’s due Monday. I’m not really used to working like this,” he sighed and turned back towards the screen, “we never had homework over the weekends back home.” He paused and added softly to himself, “Or snow.” He sighed and turned back at Kurt realizing he was being exceptionally rude, “I’m sorry, Mister Sefton, I can’t go to the bon fire tonight unless I finish this, and…anyway, what’s your dog’s name?”
"Oh, there is no need to apologise", Kurt assured him. "I am sorry we interrupted your work. His name is Triscuit, for his colouring."
Julian smiled and got up from his seat, approaching the puppy and the teacher. “Hey Triscut,” he then looked to Kurt, “Is he friendly- I mean, he’s not going to bite is he?”
"Oh, he is very definitely friendly. To the point where I fear he would be no use at all as a guard dog." Triscuit proved it by bouncing at the offered hand and trying to lick.
Julian scratched the pup behind its ears and patted his side gently, “Who’s a good boy,” he said in puppy speak. He looked up at Kurt, “Do you know how much snow we’re supposed to have today?” He truly despised the white, fluffy, frozen stuff and still hadn’t gone shopping to get a coat. The only reason he was planning on going outside tonight was because the bonfire would provide some warmth against the chill of December.
"Oh, yes, you are from warmer parts", Kurt remembered, looking affectionately down at the ecstatic dog. "I do not know exactly, but hopefully none while the bonfire is going on."
“Yeah, it’s seventy degrees back home right now,” he said as he stood up, the memory of sandy beaches a warm and distant memory. “I should get back to my paper, but I’ll see you at the bon fire tonight?” If I finish it that is. “I hope you and Triscut enjoy the snow, Mister Sefton.”
"I will certainly be there", Kurt agreed. "And I am sure we will. Good luck with your paper, Julian."
“Thank you,” he started back toward his laptop. “Enjoy the snow.” Julian plopped down at the table and once again started typing- the movie now on a continuous cycle of it’s menu.
