Amara recruits the help of Sam to do some set-up for the bonfire.

Amara was very much looking forward to the bonfire she was organising. The feeling around the mansion was much more subdued than was usual for this time of year - completely understandable of course, given their losses, but Amara was determined to do something to try and cheer people up, even if it was only a little bit. So she was making sure everything was in place for it, which is why she was currently wrapped up in her big coat to head outside. While she tended to run hotter than most people, that didn't stop the wind from cutting straight through her, or the wind and snow from being very, very cold when it hit her skin. She'd also requistioned the help of one of the people who counted as big and strong around the mansion, which is why Sam Guthrie was accompanying her. She wasn't going to quite be able to manage sorting out the wood Yvette had collected by herself. "I hope the weather is okay for this," she commented, sounding a little worried. "The prediction is for clear weather, but who knows if that will change."

When Sam heard that someone was making the effort to cheer people up he volunteered immediately. First in his mind was that Paige really needed it. He also thought that if he could bring himself to have fun then there wasn't any excuse for anyone else to avoid things and so they wouldn't dare. For a straight forward country boy, he felt that was pretty devious of him. Also, he'd get out of the office and meet someone new.

"Even if it snows we should be alright with a big enough fire, so long as it's just flurries." Following behind Amara with his arms full of logs, Sam looked up to the sky. He could fly out and see what the weather was looking like to the west but with someone at the mansion that could simply control the weather it felt like a waste. He had been doing a lot of flying lately, looking for Jay.

Amara definitely approved of such deviousness. People did need to get out amongst the general population, hiding away despite what had been happening certainly wasn't good for anyone. Which is really why she wanted to have this bonfire, hopefully some of these people would venture out. And it had worked, since it had gotten Sam out of his office!

"This is true! And I am sure I can keep the bonfire sufficently big enough." There's a pause while she takes a moment to think. "Of course, I'll have to be careful it doesn't get too big, I'd hate for someone to get hurt." Thank you, Morgan, for planting that worry in her head. She hadn't thought about it til you brought it up!

"I'm sure we can get someone who has powers that can keep a fire in control so that it won't be much of an issue." Sam began to stack up the majority of the logs. He knew how to work a bonfire from his farm days and once the logs were stacked he moved to the pit to prepare their kindling. He would have worried about it getting wet but since Amara was going to be starting the fire there wasn't much of a worry.

Once he was more or less finished, Sam looked to Amara and smiled. "I'm sure it will be a wonderful night and everyone should appreciate you doing this for us." He could tell she was a bit concerned and he wanted to reassure her.

"That's true! Or at the very least, there should be enough damp earth and everything to throw over it in a hurry. I think it's pretty unlikely that errant sparks will set anything on fire, everything's pretty damp." Amara felt a little useless, hovering around while Sam did all the work, but really, it didn't look like he needed much help. He definitely knew what he was doing.

"Thank you," she said with a pleased smile. "I know this is a hard time for everyone, with what happened in New York and then with what happened..." Amara stumbled through her words, having rather belatedly remembered that Sam's brother was amongst those that went missing. "But I think that's all the more reason why we should spend more time together? I mean. You never know what might happen."

Sam nodded, dusting his hands off as he finished. "Thank you for thinking of me. I appreciate being included and getting out to do some real, honest work." Just an expression, of course. He did a lot of work but not much as fulfilling as the old farm work he used to do.

"Oh no, thank you. I don't think I could have done nearly as good a job setting everything up. And it would have taken me a lot longer." Building bonfires was not really Amara's forte. Starting one shouldn't be a problem, however. "And I hope you know I'll be expecting to see you at the bonfire as well. I'll even save you some smores."

"I'll make sure to come down for it. I'm sure it will be something great and new to do." Sam wasn't about to start a 'thank you' war be he appreciated being thought of more than he felt stacking some logs should deserve. He was glad to meet Amara, who seemed like a very thoughtful and polite person. "I'll tell Momma that those years of boyscouts paid off."

"Great! I'm really hoping a lot of people show up." Amara wasn't exactly new around the mansion, but this was really the first time she'd put herself forward like this. She'd previously spent most of her time focusing on getting control of her powers and getting her GED, she was enjoying actually being social for once. "They certainly did! I'm quite impressed."

Sam beamed a bit at impressing a young, pretty girl. "Why thank you, Amara." he moved up alongside her. "Time to head up back to the mansion?"

"Sounds like a good idea to me," she replied, looking up to him to smile back. "I think we could both do with a hot drink after all your hard work. I make a great hot chocolate, if you're interested." She might even have some cookies left over from her last batch they could have.
