Angel and Julian meet up in the kitchen, much flirting ensues- backdated to Thursday morning.

With a gasp, Angel broke from under the water and grasped the side of the pool with both hands. She’d thrown herself back into her routine but good, though today had been more “let’s see how long I can stay under water because it’s kind of cool” than anything more substantial. Using a bit of fire thrust, she pretty much just flew out of the pool to land next to where she kept her towel. Thinking as she wrapped it around her waist, she trotted in the direction of the kitchen door, leaving steaming foot prints in the grass her wake because no one would appreciate her dripping on the floor once she reached the mansion.

It was pretty quiet that day but she wasn’t surprised. Things had been pretty subdued for a while, the holidays bringing about some well needed cheer but also time for quiet reflection. She, however, was done for hiding away even if it had been for a good cause. Jay wouldn’t have wanted that and Garrison would probably had given her some huge task to do if he knew.

Her stomach growled loudly as she entered the kitchen and she sighed. “I’m here, stop yelling at me! Stupid stomach.”

Julian had stayed up far too late with his suitemates playing the new Mortal Kombat game and hadn’t gotten much sleep as a result. Luckily for him, he seemed to be excused from taking most of the final exams that were coming up, since he was new and hadn’t had the comprehensive education that took place over the semester. The truth was he could probably take the exams and pass, he’d been hitting the books hard lately.

Life at Xavier’s had been an easy transition, though he did wish there were more guys around to hang out with. Julian was enjoying being a mutant for the first time in a long time and was very excited about his upcoming powers training, but his thoughts this morning weren’t on classes, powers or even women- well, now they were. Julian was headed down to the kitchen for breakfast.

“Stand in line for the fridge!” came the muffled shout from Angel as she pretty much was half way into the giant thing, reaching for various tasty objects that prudent students hid from sight. Or in the broccoli container. She was young and food didn’t stick to her hips, so she could have chocolate pudding for breakfast. For a start, anyway. She withdrew and turned, thinking that maybe Kyle was up and about and…

Holy ... Angel’s eyes widened slightly at the sight of the strange young man in the kitchen and she managed to cover up a squeak of surprise. “Who – oh! You’ve got to be Julian, right? I mean, you’re new and you’re the only boy so far so unless the Professor is sending us early Christmas gifts … I’m stopping right there and hi, I’m Angel.”

Julian was a bit surprised to, running into a rather attractive girl in her swimsuit wasn’t exactly a typical morning occurrence. For a not-too-brief moment his mind shifted away from food, but last night’s escapades hadn’t included snacks and his stomach reminded him why he was here. With his patented Keller smile, charming class, Julian side stepped Angel and grabbed the milk out of the fridge, “That’s a rather fitting name.” With the milk in hand Julian turned to find his favorite cereal already out on the counter. “It was your birthday recently, right?”

She was a bit thrown by the first comment and blinked at him for a moment. “Oh yeah! I turned seventeen, though I always almost too busy to really notice.” Angel wrinkled her nose at that. “Luckily, everyone else did. Thanks for the birthday wishes, by the way, that was really nice of you.” The smile she gave him was bright as she popped the top on the container that held dark chocolate pudding.

One of her cousins would have been aghast that she was actually, god forbid, eating in front of a hot boy but Angel loved food more than boys. Though she did slowly increase the warmth around her so she could stop dripping into the pudding.

Julian poured himself a bowl of Cheerios and added the milk, taking care to only check Angel out in his peripheral vision. Unlike the last person to use it, Julian put the cereal back where he’d found it, as well as the milk, before grabbing a spoon and digging in. After his first bite he turned to her and smiled, “It was the least I could do- literally. I’m glad you enjoyed your time with your dad though, do you get to see him very often?” His head tilted to the side ever so slightly as he spoke, taking careful bite after careful bite of his breakfast.

Despite the chant of ‘New cute boy’ that was running through her head, Angel thought she was doing pretty well. “Oh yeah, at least once a week. When I manifested we were living in Seattle but he took a job with a newspaper in New York so he could be close by. Mom’s still based back home but she flies out now and then when she can to see me. It’s been pretty awesome, actually, I love the school. How’re you liking it so far?”

Julian was half-way through his bowl and had to set it down to answer her, chewing and swallowing before clearing his throat. “I love it here. I can actually be honest about being a mutant and I don’t have to hide it- like back home.” He gave her a quick once over, more obvious than the dozen or so he’d already done since meeting her. “The only thing I don’t like out here is the cold and how the heck did you go swimming out there today?”

There was a faint hint of blush on her cheeks but if he was looking than she could as well. “Oh, that’s easy,” Angel said, putting down the container and spoon. She held up one hand and a cheery looking ball of blue flame popped into existence. It was easy to tell from the look on her face that she loved this part. “I’m a pyrokinetic, so I call up flames. But I also do other nifty things, like fly and stay the same temperature no matter what’s going on outside. I’m never cold or hot, it is so awesome!” Giggling a little, Angel made the fire dance on her fingers for a moment before grasping it in her hand so that it went out. “So, what do you do? If I can ask?”

He thought about it a moment and found himself incredibly jealous of her powers. He was freezing his butt off in this icy wasteland, being able to not feel it sounded wonderful. He looked around the room, if she was able to give a demonstration, so could he. The first thing that caught his eye was the large kitchen table, which was probably heavy enough, but there we people eating over there- a recipe for disaster.

Finally, after a moment of silence between them, Julian settled on the refrigerator, which would certainly be heavy enough and would also seem fairly impressive to Angel- he hoped. “Watch this,” he said, motioning an open hand toward the fridge. It began to glow a dim green, as if someone had painted it with glow-in-the-dark paint. Then, exerting a little bit of energy, the appliance lifted off the ground before knocking into the shelf built in above it. “I’m a telekinetic, no object is too big,” he left off the too small part since he could have tried floating his bowl to the sink, but it probably would have exploded. He let the fridge drop, “I’m still learning the flying thing,” after a brief pause and another charming smile he looked into her lovely green eyes, “I could probably use a tutor if you were up for the challenge.”

“It was green! That was awesome! We’ve got other teeks in the house, who you’ve probably met by now, but they don’t get to have cool colors with their powers!” Or at least she didn’t think they did. And this guy was really a flirt, Angel realized, chewing on the end of her spoon as she gave him a considering look. Most of her relationships with guys started off because they were friends and there tended to be some punching involved but she was amused by him and flattered. And really trying not to stare at his butt. “For a cute guy like you?” she finally responded. “I think I could find the time. Besides, flying is one of the best things in the world next to cute guys, DDR and food.”

Angel was cute, a bit of a flirt and had an amazing power set, which Julian observed with a bit of jealousy- she was a complete package, and it was that which sparked the memory of Cas. Though his smile didn’t waver he did feel the need to turn his head from hers for a moment, but only just. “I’m glad to hear that, and yeah, not quite sure what’s up with the green glow,” he shrugged. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to fly outside with the weather being what it is right now,” he mimed a shiver of cold, “you might not be able to feel it, but to someone from Cali it’s more than a little cold out there.” He finished his cereal and leaned against the counter.

“Hey, you’ll be part of our little ‘we all work together’ thingie, the New Mutants,” Angel mused, tapping her chin. “I bet we could get your poor little cold self into the place where folks go to train with your powers. But it’d be fun to see if they’d let us in. I’m not allowed to fly, much, in the house since Mr. Marko – who isn’t here anymore – caught Monet pushing me down the hall when I was upside down. This place is pretty fun, I have to say.”

Julian laughed at that, “Upside down? Wow, this place…I do like it here. It’s better than home at least,” he let the comment hang in the air. To break the tension he grabbed the bowl and took it over to the sink to give it a quick rinse- of course once that was done he just left it there for someone else to really clean. “The New Mutants, I’ve been looking forward to that. Karolina mentioned it too, she said it was kind of lame. What does the group do anyway?”

“We’re teenagers, we think everything is lame,” Angel said shrugging as she walked over to dump the puddingless container into the sink to rinse as well. “Actually, I think it’s kind of fun. We get to leave campus and we do group exercises so we can know how to use our powers and actually deal with each other.” She pointed her finger at Julian and grinned. “It’s only lame if you want it to be. I like using my powers.” To demonstrate, she held the damp bowl in her hand and dried it off with her powers.
Julian smiled, taking the dry bowl back from her and putting it away in the cupboard he’d found it in. “I’m with you there, back home I tried to use them whenever I could,” he left out the part about the constant groundings over that and the times when he’d loose control in his sleep and turn the neighborhood upside down. “I’ve been having a lot of fun in the weight room, finding my limits, you should join me sometime,” he beamed at her, “I’ll spot you.”

Angel tried to remember the last time she’d tried to lift weights and came up with an exact number. Zero. But it was really, really hard to turn down Julian and not only because he was really, really hot – she found herself quite liking him. He was fun. “Let’s make a deal,” she said, sticking out her hand, “I give you help on flying and you spot me in the gym.”

Without so much as a moment of thought, Julian took her hand and gave it a firm shake, letting the touch linger for just a little longer than proper. “You’ve got yourself a deal, Angel.” He knew what time it was, but didn’t want to head out just yet, he was enjoying meeting his classmate- the fact she was hot, both literally and figuratively, was a wonderful consolation prize. Of course, everyone here at the mansion seemed to be incredibly attractive, a fact which got distracting if he thought about it too long. “Hey, I need to get to class, do you want to meet up later?”

Touching. Little wisps of Angel’s hair caught on fire but luckily not the rest of her as she blushed a little more, though her smile only grew. “I’d like that! Once I have, you know, pants on. I’m just taking pictures of the school grounds later today, so I’m completely free for anything.”

He started to head for the door, “I’ll meet you in the gym at two then?” He smiled and waved goodbye to her, pausing in the frame of the door, “It really was nice to meet you, Angel.” Before she could respond he disappeared out the frame and into the hallway, heading to class.

Angel counted to one hundred in her head before giggling like a crazy woman. “There is a Santa Claus!” she cheered before hurrying off to room.
