Inez brings Garrison food, and learns where he plans to go from here.

Inez still couldn't believe the news that they were back. Jay, Garrison, Dani and that Pete guy that everyone else seemed to know. Everyone was acting so hushed, though. But she'd heard that Garrison was in his room, and since she hadn't seen him come down for any meals, she'd taken it upon herself to bring leftovers up to him. She knocked on the door to his suite with one foot while balancing two large plates on her palms, reflexes honed from months waiting tables at the Jefferson.

"Mister Inspector Superhero Mountie Man!" she called through the door. "Room service!"

The door cracked open, and the face seen through the gap wasn't looking amused. "The name is Garrison." He said grimly, opening it a bit further when he saw it was Inez. "What happened? You draw the short straw on food delivery tonight?"

"It speaks!" Inez chirped, holding the plates out for balance. "But can it eat? And no, I just figured that you're back and alive and stuff and probably hungry so I put some stuff together I didn't know what you like so I kind of grabbed a little bit of everything figured you'd be hungry..." she stopped for a while to take a deep breath, then looked away briefly. "And I wanted to say, y'know, glad you're not dead and stuff."

Garrison stared at her for a moment, and opened the door. "Yeah, the case is still out on that one. Come on in." He didn't exactly want company right now, but people kept dropping by. Also, he was hungry. "You been keeping up with your training? I know we didn't get a lot of advanced hand to hand classes in before I, uh, left."

Inez shrugged as much as she was able, then came in to put the plates down on a table. "Been doing the stuff with Miss Lennox, you know, the basic self-defense stuff. Not like training with Mr. Marko."

"Well, I'm sure if you ask around, someone will be able to pick it back up with you. The more you train, the easier it becomes to control your strength. Besides, you've got good instincts." Kane sat down, picking up a fork and taking a mouthful. It was easier to think about other people right now than himself, and he didn't want to burden other people with his problems.

Inez just nodded and watched Garrison eat. He didn't really look any different, but something had changed about him. "Are you going to leave?" she blurted out, crossing her arms over her chest.

Kane slowly put down his fork and crossed his hands over his plate. "Yeah, I am. I have to go visit my sister, let her know that I'm not dead. Then I'm going to spend some time down with my father, and try to get my head on straight."

Twisting a lock of hair between her fingers, Inez tried not to look at Garrison. Not if he was meaning what it sounded like. "Are... are you coming back after?" she asked, more quietly than she'd intended. She cleared her throat and tried to look nonplussed. "Because, y'know, with Marko gone, no one's really taking the reins whipping the rest of the New Mutants into line and they haven't told any of us who's taking charge. And some of us might kind of miss you. I hear."

"I don't know." Kane said slowly. "I don't know if I'm the right person to be trying to tell anyone what they want to do." He looked at the plate, his appetite gone. "I know it sounds selfish, but it's for the best, Inez."

"Fine," Inez said flatly, still not meeting Garrison's eyes. "I suppose you gotta do what you gotta do, yo. Just don't bullshit people and tell them it's for their own good, okay? I don't know where you've been or what happened, but you're still Garrison to us, okay? And if I don't get to just ditch this place, then... then you don't either!" she blurted out, then stomped over to the door.

"Inez." Kane said, before she could reach the door. "I have to know if I'm still Garrison to me. If not, then this is the last place I should be. But--" He paused for a second. "You're also not wrong. This is running away because it's too hard right now. I'm sorry."

"If you don't come back," she said, "you know we're gonna find you."

"I'd be disappointed if you didn't try."
