Catseye tries to comfort Dani and has a little more success than she did at her last comfort attempt (with Jay.) Avoidance is the order of the day.
If it had been anyone else, Dani would not have opened the door. She was refusing to open the door for anyone short of Forge or...Catseye. It was hard to say no to her sometimes. Cracking the door open just enough to let the cat in, Dani watched her enter before shutting the door quickly. The lights were out and the drapes were shut against any potential light from the outside. Even in the demi-light of her room, the garish red scar was obvious as it cut across her throat.
Catseye felt a sense of foreboding that Dani's room was dark as Jay's had been, but at least Dani had let her in which implied she was more open to company than Jay turned out to be. The cat leapt nimbly onto Dani's shoulder, careful not to use her claws, and nuzzled the girl's neck affectionately, avoiding the scar.
Dani stiffened at the touch, but didn't make the cat move. She was a big, heavy cat too. Thankfully, Dani was not some tiny, waif-like girl. She was easily bigger than some of the guys here...though not all of them. Going to her bed, she picked Catseye up and dropped her on the bed lightly, then laid down on it again. It was made up, but that didn't mean much. Idly, Dani just lay there staring at something only she could see.
Sensing that something was off about the girl's behaviour, Catseye sat on the bed and debated on the merits of shifting to try and talk to Dani or staying in cat form and pretending everything was fine. Talking hadn't worked with Jay, after all. But the cat, while a good listener, wasn't very good at convincing people that they could talk to her. People tended to treat the cat form as an animal, and normally Catseye promoted that distinction- she'd been trying to make JP treat the cat differently than the girl for months. But Catseye wanted to show Dani that she could talk to her, that she wanted to try and help if Dani needed it. So she shifted to girlform. Instead of opening up a conversation that Dani might not want to have, however, she merely curled up at Dani's side the way the cat would have, close but not touching as she sensed that if she cuddled up against Dani the other girl would stiffen again, and tried to figure out what it was Dani was looking at.
Dani was looking at things no one else could see. Things behind her eyelids. She saw Catseyes fears and instantly thought of half a dozen ways they could be exploited too. She liked the company of the cat-girl regardless of her form. Catseye didn't push, she just wanted love and pastrami and maybe a sunbeam. It was the kind of friend right now Dani could handle, even if she couldn't quite handle herself yet.
Catseye couldn't figure out what they were staring at. Eventually, curiosity overcame her and she asked, quietly, "what does BreadCookingGirl see?"
"Death," Dani replied after a minute. Her voice was low and gravelly. Sabretooths claws had ripped her throat, only narrowly missing her voice box. She was lucky she had managed to keep it, though after so long not using it and the damage done, it didn't sound like her. It sounded strange in her ears. Like someone else. "All I see is death and pain."
Well, that was... interesting. Her voice was different. Catseye hesitated in constructing an answer- she didn't want to antagonize Dani in any way. Instead, she tentatively brushed her fingers against Dani's arm. It could be the preamble to a snuggle, or, if Dani pulled away, nothing more than a momentary display of affection. "Is BreadCookingGirl in pain? Want Catseye to get anything?"
"No," she replied distantly. "I'm fine," when was the last time she had eaten? She didn't remember. She wasn't hungry regardless. No interest in cooking either. Nothing she had liked to do before interested her now. Not even the things she didn't like to do.
"Okay," the catgirl acquiesced easily. She knew Dani was far from fine, but couldn't bring herself to pester her for details that weren't forthcoming. Since Dani hadn't pulled away, Catseye shifted closer and put an arm around her waist. "Can Catseye stay and nap with BreadCookingGirl?"
Dani didn't really respond, but she didn't say no either. She just laid there and stared at the wall, like she had been doing for hours already. Slowly, one hand reached up and touched Catseyes hand, fingers intertwining.
