After their brief encounter at breakfast, Angel joins Julian in the weight room for a workout...and a healthy amount of flirting.

OOC: Backdated due to holiday travels, sorry for the delay!

Julian had changed into his black track pants and a white tank top to work out. He wasn’t, by any means, muscular- in fact in physical form he wasn’t even that strong, but it helped to look the part when you went around saving the day and his friends from the group had started him on some light weights. He was now able to bench two-hundred at his upper limits; though his mind could pick that much weight up and toss it to the side without so much as a thought. Keller was proud of the progress that he’d made, his abs were finally starting to show definition and today was particularly special.

Not more than six hours before, he’d met Angel, a rather stunning pyrokinetic. She was due to meet him here at two o’clock to do some weight training and it would be nice to have the company while he rearranged some of the equipment.

The soft whirr and click proceeded Angel's appearance and she peeked out behind a sleek looking camera. "Hey Julian! Belated say cheese by the way." She glanced back at the digital display and whistled. "Nice picture. And you're not so bad, either." Angel carefully put the camera on a high enough surface before dumping a small towel on
the floor.

She wasn't sporting her bathing suit anymore; this time, it was just biking shorts and a white tank top. A pony tail bobbed along with her movement as she stretched, staring around the room with curiosity. "Man, the guys down at the station might just come up her to shake your hand," she said cheerfully. "They've been trying to get me to lift weights with them for ages."

He wondered what guys she was talking about for a moment, but smiled and gave her a subtle once over- her outfit left little to the imagination. “Hope that it turns out,” he said, opening the door to the gym and walking inside. The reason he’d decided on this particular time of day was because the weight room wasn’t in heavy use. He still wasn’t sure what exactly he was allowed to do around here with his powers, but moving weight equipment when no one else around seemed like it would probably be alright. He turned and looked at Angel, “Alright, before we get started, have you done any weight lifting before…ever?”

It was more than she had thought. "A few times," Angel said and then explained. "I'm sort of a trainee volunteer firefighter - fireproof, me, yeah? - so the guys showed it to me but I didn't get into it. When I'm all fired up, I'm actually pretty strong, though I burn through things, so I didn't think I needed it." She shrugged suddenly, a pinched look crossing her face. "But a bunch of us got caught up in New York and, well, any training is good training. That was a really long winded explanation for 'No, not really'. I'm sorry, I talk. A lot."

She clamped a hand over her mouth and gave him a sheepish look.

It made sense, the fireproof girl working with fire, “Don’t worry about it, I could listen to you talk all day.” Julian gave her a smarmy wink and started toward some gym mats that had been laid out in one corner of the room. “In that case though, the first thing we’re going to do is some simple stretches. We do that so we don’t pull a muscle or anything while we’re lifting.” He began to do some basic arm stretches to loosen up, then smiled at Angel and looked deep into her green eyes, “Though if you do, I’d be happy to work out any stiffness or soreness you may experience via massage.”

There was a long pause and then Angel broke out into delighted laughter. "You," she grinned, starting to stretch as well and wincing as things popped, "are a keeper. A total keeper. I'll have to keep the massage thing in mind." She winked and rotated her arms, matching Julian's movements to her own so she could figure out exactly what was best. She would stretch before swimming but this was more arm related than she usually did. "And if you find yourself with any knotted muscles of your own, well, I think we could totally switch on each other."

He probably wouldn’t turn down her offer, but he’d seen his friends back home get involved with teammates before and it never seemed to end well. Still, Julian enjoyed the flirting and there was no harm in that. He chuckled to himself as he finished with his arm stretches, then sat down on the mat and started to work out his legs. “I’ll have to take you up on that sometime,” he smiled, “make sure to work out your legs too, you’d be surprised what muscle groups you use on some of this equipment. He watched her lithe body stretch and bend, finding himself a little flushed for it. “What kind of swimming do you do?” he asked, trying to get the blood flowing back to his brain.

"When I was training, I did a lot of butterfly style. Right now, though, with the school this small we don't have a swim team so I just swim every day around 5 am to keep in shape." Angel did as she was told, going through some of her old stretch routines. She hadn't been this diligent in a while. After a while, she turned to Julian. "So, where do we start? And what are you into? I'm always hoping for another picture or swim geek to come along."

Julian had shifted to doing crunches, which he was quite good at by now. He counted them to himself and upon reaching the magical number of twenty-five, he stopped and stood up, giving his back one more stretch. “Good question- where to start I mean,” he scanned the room looking at the various pieces of equipment. “Since it’s been a while for you, why don’t we start with something easy- free weight bench press.” He started toward one of the free bench stations, floating a rack of plates next to it as he went. “I’m a swimmer too actually, or was I guess- I haven’t been able to do it since I got out here.” He turned to her, picking up one of the clamps and unfastening it. “I actually took second place in the 100 meter freestyle back in California- regionally.”

"Whoa, that's impressive. Wait a minute, you're hot and you swim? Well, there goes my concentration levels for the rest of the year." Angel just stood back and watched him work his magic on the machines, waiting for any further instruction.

After a brief moment Julian decided to start her at 100 pounds and then adjust from there. “You’re one to talk, think I’m going to be able to pay attention to Mister Beaubier talking about fairy tales and whatever if you’re in the same room?” He loaded twenty-two-and-a-half pounds onto either end of the bar and clamped them on; once satisfied that the weight wouldn’t slide off, he turned to Angel and smiled. “We’re going to start you with 100 pounds, to see what you can do with that. If it’s too much, I’m here to make sure you don’t get hurt. I’m going to show you what to do….”

A Short While Later...

Angel sipped her smoothie mournfully as she stared at the one piece of now melted gym equipment. "Kyle's gonna have my head," she muttered, facepalming. Everything had been going pretty well until on her hands had slipped and she'd panicked, forgetting that her spotter had TK. She'd flamed and nearly threw the weights into the ceiling as she'd
shoved it off her. She turned to Julian with wide eyes. "I am so sorry - I totally forgot to tell you that I spaz out sometimes. Though normally I just put my foot in my mouth and set cabbage on fire..."

Julian, on the other hand, was doing his best to suppress his laughter, which was still coming out as small snickers whenever he looked over at the melted remains of the bench. He reached up to ensure his eyebrows were still there for the twenty-third time since the fireball had started. “I told you, you don’t need to apologize. I mean, I’d say it could happen to anybody, but that’s,” he began to chuckle and had to stop himself by taking a sip of his smoothing. “Sorry, sorry, it’s just,” Julian cleared his throat, “not something you see every day and it was actually really impressive. Very…” he paused and thought for a moment whether or not he should use the pun, “hot.”

"I'll very hot you," Angel replied, still mortified. It was really funny, though, and her lips twitched just a little bit. "I'd say I've never done anything like that before, and it'd be kind of sort of true, but at least you've got all of your bits in place. Argh, I'm going to end up owing Kyle food for a month because of this!" Her shoulders slumped slightly. "At least it didn't go through the roof?"

“That’s one way to look at it.” Julian thought for a moment, looking back at the still smoldering wreck. “It’s not that bad actually, well, no- it IS that bad, but I’ll take care of it. I mean, if I hadn’t encouraged you, you never would have been in a position to burn down the weight room.” Julian turned back to Angel, smiling. “Maybe we should stick to swimming from now on.”

She could still flame under water but she thought it best not to tell him that just yet. "Kyle's awesome but he just got the whole groundskeeper thing." Angel actually did feel kind of bad for adding onto Kyle's workload but if Julian was able to help with it, all the better. "And yeah, totally sticking to swimming. Though I'll probably be alone until it warms up for those who, you know, actually feel the cold." Laughing, Angel pretended to pout at him.

In the wake of the fireball, Julian had forgotten that outside the comfort of the mansion, winter was in full swing. “Ah, damn, guess I forgot about that,” Julian set down his empty cup and walked over to one of the other weight benches, looking for a name. He’d have to check the brand at least if he was going to buy a replacement. A thought came to mind, “Wait, can’t you heat the water?”

"I could but I'd have to do it pretty slowly or else it would evaporate before you could get in." Angel crossed her arms over her chest to give it some serious thought. "I'm not sure now long it would take for me to get it warm without the water going away or, well, cooking you outright but I could try."

With a chuckle, Julian walked back to Angel, “I don’t think I’d enjoy playing the part of the lobster, so I guess I’ll have to wait.” He had the work bench’s name and would have to shoot Kyle an email about the mess fairly soon before someone else reported it. “Aside from the fireball, how’d you enjoy yourself?”

She peered up at him with a smile. "I liked it, though I don't think weight lifting is the sport for me. This fire chick is going to stick to either the blue sky or the blue water but it was fun. What about you?" Angel pointed. "At least you still have your eyebrows?"
