With Amanda already worrying about Pete and Garrison and Jay, adding Dani to the list to worry about is not very difficult. She comes to check on her and brings tea. Dani is not doing so well.

There wasn't a lot of hope that Dani would open the door, but in some strange way, Amanda felt obliged to at least try. She understood hurt and she knew that Manuel would have been there if he could, so in some strange way, it made sense that Amanda be his proxy. Holding a mug with tea, she tapped on the door gently. "Um, Dani? 'S Amanda. I brought you some tea, if you'd like?"

That it was Amanda at the door surprised Dani. The two had never been close and were barely acquaintances, forget friends. And yet, here she was offering tea. Slowy Dani opened the door, revealing her darkened room, a sliver of light cutting through the gloam where the curtains did not quite meet the wall. This was the first time Amanda had been to her room. It was a mess. There were clothes everywhere on the floor, the bed unmade. This was not how Dani's room normally looked. Normally it was clean, bare of much decoration. Now, it looked as if a tornado had come through it, destroying everything not nailed down. It had not been a good day.

Squinting in the dimness, Amanda looked Dani over. She looked like hell, to put it bluntly. "Here," she said, offering one of the mugs. "English tradition, making tea. And it looks like you could do with something warm."

She could do with something a hell of a lot stronger than merely 'warm,' but she would take what was offered. Taking the mug, she said, "Thanks," her voice was low and hoarse, almost gravelly. She was wearing the same clothes that she had been for several days straight, her waist length black hair almost in her face and there were circles under her eyes. The scar now though was covered by the neck of her shirt. Taking a sip she savoured the feeling of the hot liquid sliding down her throat.

"Manuel's had to leave the mansion to stop his brain exploding," Amanda explained. "Powers stuff, you know. So I thought I'd check in on you for him, see how you were doing, see if there was anything you need?" The change in the formerly neat and tidy Dani was disturbing on the same level as Pete's moods - there might not be outward change, but there were wounds here, still raw.

"Ah," that explained it. Dani had wondered why Amanda was here, though she hadn't wondered about Manuel at all, especially not with what he probably felt from her emotional state. Dani was acutely aware of her own emotions even if she couldn't quite work up the interest to care or do anything about them. "I don't need anything," well, nothing that Amanda could give her or do. "I'm fine."

"Well, I'll be here for a bit, as long as Pete's in the medlab," the witch said gently. "I know we're not mates or anything, but sometimes having that bit of distance helps." She grinned a little. "You don't have to worry about hurting my feelings if you tell me to piss off, for a start."

Taking another sip of her tea, Dani tried to smile and then gave up. It was too much effort to even give false platitudes, "I'm okay. Worry about Pete or Jay," because they had a lot more damage than she did. So did Garrison for that matter. "I'm....going to see someone. Samson or Haller. I'm just sorting some things out," that was a lot for her to say. More than she had for a good while anyways.

"Oh, I am, worrying about them. Whole lot of worry going on. So it's not like I'm really going out of my way, worrying 'bout you too." The smile Amanda gave Dani then was sincere, understanding. "Good for you, tho', going to one of them. Some things are bigger than you can cope with. Which is why the Trenchcoats have Sofia." A thought occurred to her. "Later, when you're up for it, I daresay Meggan would like to be able to say hi. I think she's worried about you as well."

Dani had been seeing Samson for years and had worked with Haller on her powers for control and the like so it wasn't too difficult to realize that she needed to do it. Though, just because she had realized it, she hadn't done much to actually do it yet. She was having problems moving, getting herself dressed and making the steps. It didn't really worry her that she hadn't yet, she had a lot to think about and even thinking in circles was sort of okay. "Maybe..." Dani wasn't too sure about seeing Meggan. She liked Meggan and had taught the little girl how to swim, though she wasn't so little anymore. "I don't want to hurt her..."

"How about you let her decide whether it's worth the risk?" Amanda asked quietly. "I mean, the last time I made decisions for her, I wound up having to dump her with Margali because I fucked up so much. And, funny enough, she's forgiven me for it." For a moment she felt the impulse to reach out to Dani, she seemed so lost, so much like herself after Selene, but instinct told her to hold back. Dani needed to feel safe within her own skin, without others forcing themselves on her. "She's a tough kid, and there's not an ounce of harm in her. I think that might help. But when you're ready - she's patient enough to wait, too."

Amanda had no idea what she was talking about and Dani couldn't say it. She didn't want to say it, "No," she replied resolutely. Maybe Meggan was a tough kid, but Dani didn't care. It didn't matter how tough she was, Dani could hurt her. Not physically, but mentally. And she would like it. And Dani didn't want to risk that. "No."

Something in the denial resonated, and she nodded. "Maybe not, then," she replied simply. "I'll leave you to it for now, but I'll be up later with some food." It wasn't an offer, just a statement.

Nodding, Dani handed back the mug, surprised and secretly pleased that Amanda would be back. Food would be nice too. Dani hadn't really connected with a lot of people at the school and those she had weren't the type to really bring her food, at least that was what she was telling herself to explain things. It was a good lie she thought. "Okay," she agreed, not smiling but at least nodding acquiescence.

"No worries," came the reply. "Like I said, it's on my way." She stepped back then, to let Dani close the door, and gave her another small smile. "Try and get some rest, Moonstar. You look like hell."

Rest. Ha! She hadn't slept, not well anyways, since coming back. She had been plagued with dreams and images every time she closed her eyes, the words were touching though. Nodding again, Dani didn't quite meet Amanda's eyes, "Okay," she whispered, closing the door behind Amanda as she left. Huh. That had gone surprisingly well.
