Now he's back from Houston, Kurt goes to check on a certain little red ninja.

Yvette hadn't been out and about very much since the missing four had been brought back to the mansion, and at least one person had noticed. Taking an educated guess about where she probably was, Kurt padded along the student corridor and stopped at her door.

"Yvette?" he called, knocking softly. "Are you in there?"

There was a pause and a few shuffling noises and then the door opened, Yvette appearing behind it. "Hello, Mr. Sefton," she said with a smile, but there was a certain subdued note to it. "Can I be helping you?"

"I was wondering if perhaps I could be helping you", he answered gently, looking down at her. "May I come in?"

"Of course!" She stepped aside so that he could enter. The suite she shared with Angel was uncharacteristically untidy, with books and papers and clothes strewn around. "I am sorry for the mess," she began, a little embarrassed as she pushed some dirty clothes under the bed with her foot. "It has been a little busy lately."

"More than a little, I think." He didn't seem fazed by the scattered objects, just picking up a couple of books from the chair and setting them on the desk. "How have you been?"

"I have been... okay," she said, diffidently. "I have been doing the homework and the groundkeeping for Kyle." There was a lot left unspoken in that sentence.

"You have been making yourself useful, I know." There was approval in that, but also concern. "I know that Jay is your friend, and that is really what I meant. You must be worried."

Her eyes dimmed and her hair stiffened slightly. "They say he is being all right, but I have not been seeing him since is coming back. I went to his room and it was all broken." She looked down at her feet.

"Yvette, look at me." He took a step towards her. "When everyone told you Jay is all right, they meant he is whole in body, though his wings are not as they were. I must tell you, though, that he is not the person you knew."

"What happened to him?" she asked, looking up at him, eyes glimmering blue. "What happened to all of them?"

"I wish I could tell you", he said sadly. "But they have not spoken of it much, if at all. We know that they were taken from the place where they were hurt, and their lives were saved, but they are... changed."

"Changed... like Jennie and Kyle and Marius were being changed? But they were fixed, yes? So Jay and Miss Dani and Mr. Kane can be fixed, yes?"

"Not in the same way. Jennie and Kyle and Marius... the changes were forced on them physically, by methods we understood, and with work they could be undone. These changes... we do not know how they were done in the first place, and the things that were done to them in the attack..." He looked down. "I think no one can give Jay back his wings and his skin as they were. And for the rest, it will take time. A long time."

Her eyes dimmed again and she looked down at the floor again, echoing his movement. Within the socks, her toes were lengthening, growing spikier. "Is there something we can do? To be helping them?" she asked softly.

"You can only try to be their friend, I think." His gaze caught on her socks, noticing the stretching. "As long as you know to expect that they will be different. It may frighten you, but if you can be there when you are needed, and not put off from returning if you are turned away..."

"They are my friends. I do not leave my friends," she replied, with a determination that was almost comical with her soft voice. "And to be different will not be so frightening to me."

"I was not speaking only of how they look", Kurt said quietly. "You have seen what Jay did to his room. Dani and Mr. Kane do not look so very changed, but on the inside I fear they are."

"I understand." Yvette sighed, wrapping her arms around herself as if she was cold. "Why do these bad things keep happening, Mr. Sefton? Why do they not leave us alone?"

He wished he could hug her, and his hands went out as if to begin the gesture before it turned into something more helpless. "Liebchen, if we knew the answer to that, perhaps we could make it stop."
