log: amara and lil
Jan. 31st, 2009 03:28 amLil comes home after work to find her suitemate still awake and reading X-Men files. This log just proves how amazingly different the two blondes are.
Another late night at the bar. Lil didn't mind it; it was a job she enjoyed and she was perfectly used to coming home at all hours after tending. Only difference now was that she didn't have to take a shower to wash the smell of cigarettes off before climbing into bed and snuggling with her husband. And she had to be relatively quiet so as not to wake up Amara... though tonight, that didn't seem like a problem. Pushing open the door, she was surprised to find her suitemate not only up but seriously engrossed in some heavy reading.
Tossing her bag on the floor, she smiled at the other blonde while peeling off her leather jacket. "Heya. I didn't think you'd be up. Got a big test tomorrow or something?"
Amara was usually pretty good at going to bed at a decent hour. By default she wasn't really the sort of girl who went out a lot - she was happy to go out if people invited her, but if she organised something herself, it was usually a daytime event. Staying up until 3am was definitely not a usual thing, but here she was, nursing yet another cup of tea as she sat at her computer, lost in her reading of the X-Men files Scott had given her access to. She hadn't even heard Lil come in, so she blinked a couple of times when she spoke.
"Oh! No, I completely lost track of the time." She blushed a little, finally looking away from the screen and smiling over to Lil. "I got caught up reading some of the X-Men files." They were really interesting!
"X-Men files? I didn't know you were interested in that." She's only been officially accepted as a trainee for a few weeks and there was still so much she needed to learn... and read. About half of those files, namely. Plopping down on the couch, Lil kicked off her shoes and pulled out the elastic from her hair as she unwound from work. "You joining the team?"
"Possibly," she said, taking a sip of her tea. "I talked to Scott about it a couple of days ago, and he thought I should start with doing some reading." And talking to the Professor, but that was something she'd think about doing after she'd done some more reading. "I'm afraid I got a little carried away, there's so much in there I had no idea about."
Lil nodded her understanding. "Yeah, I know. It's like the things never end." And while Amara may have been enthused about the fact, the older blonde definitely didn't share the feeling. Sure, they were interesting but it was a little too much like being back in school. Still, she knew it had to be done and if her suitemate was hitting the files, she should be too. After the sun came up. Say, around noon the next day.
"It's quite impressive. I can't imagine having to write up all those reports." She laughed a little, shaking her head. She loved reading, and she'd done a lot of it for college, but she wasn't so fond of writing. It was honestly probably the thing she liked least about college, all the papers she had to write.
Oh God. Lil hadn't even thought about that. She'd have to write reports, too? All she wanted to do was fun part - running the simulations, the training, the learning to fly and then eventually getting out there to smash some skulls and save the world... Reading and writing? "Ugh. It's too late to even be thinking about reports," the taller blonde whined, letting her head fall back against the wall.
Amara laughed at that, leaning over and switching off her computer. She should probably get to bed now anyway. No more reading for her. "Of course. I shouldn't even be up this late, I can't believe where the time went." She grinned at Lil. "But enough about that. How was work tonight?"
"Any night that passes without a fight or some drunk trying to grab my tits is a good night," Lil replied sagely with one hand pressed against her forehead. "Decent tips and I'm off tomorrow but that's only cause I'm pulling a double on Sunday. Super Bowl. You stay in and read all night?"
"That does sound like a good night." And a night off! That sounds even better. She looked a little shameful, ducking her head. "Pretty much. I'd planned on getting a little reading in before the weekend, looks like... I got a lot in."
"That does it. As soon as you turn 21, I'm dragging you out for a night of sin and debauchery," Lil declared, laughing merrily. "Gotta have fun while you can still have it! You're young; live it up and enjoy it. Weekends are meant for that kinda stuff." She honestly could not imagine spending a weekend studying with books and computers and papers.
"Well, there's still a few months until then," she said, laughing along with Lil. "And I have fun! I had lunch with some of my friends from college just yesterday." That counted as fun, right? "And I do enjoy reading, just not usually this late." She yawned, pushing herself up from her seat. "We should probably both get some sleep. So we don't sleep away the weekend." She grinned a little at that.
Slinking off of the couch, Lil shook her head as she snatched up her purse, jacket and shoes in a conscious effort to keep the common area clean at least - her own room was a different matter. "Amara, I'm gonna teach you the real meaning of fun. And believe it or not, spending the weekend in bed actually falls into that category."
Amara choked a little on that last comment from Lil, blushing scarlet as she bid her suitemate good night and headed for her own room. Not the thought Amara wanted to head to bed on!
