Catseye brings a new book to a reading session with Jean-Paul and he offers to help her with an audition.

Catseye knocked on Jean-Paul's door with a book in her hand for one of their reading sessions, as she'd been doing a lot lately, but the book was not part of the Ratha series that they'd been going through. Instead it was a copy of A Midsummer's Night's Dream. "MisterPointyEarsBeaubier," she called out as she waited for him to open the door, "Catseye has questions about a book, and it is a new book but Catseye thinks MisterPointyEarsBeaubier will probably know the answers anyway because MisterPointyEarsBeaubier knows all about lots of books and Catseye thinks he knows about the Shakespeare man! Can MisterPointyEarsBeaubier let Catseye in please?"
"Corralling the vermin!" was the reply through the door. "Give me a moment!"
About a minute later, Jean-Paul appeared, sporting a band-aid on his wrist, tired and not a little sour. The mood lifted as he caught sight of the book in Catseye's hands. "Let me guess -- you're interested in the play?"

The catgirl grinned. "Catseye is interested in the play," she agreed, patting the book like a pet. "Catseye knows it is called a play not a book because humans read out the words in front of other humans in a house with lots of seats or outside in a big group and that makes it a play not a book. Catseye wishes the Ratha book was a play not a book because then Catseye could be Ratha!"
"Let's see what we can do, shall we?" Jean-Paul lead the way back into the room. "What did you want to know? The auditions are tomorrow, but that should not be a problem if you already have a part in mind."

Catseye cocked her head in confusion. "What? Auditions? Nonononono! Catseye cannot audition for the school play! Catseye wants to read the play with MisterPointyEarsBeaubier here in the room because Catseye cannot audition!"
"Why can Catseye not audition?" was the half-playful response.

The catgirl laughed easily. It wasn't something that made her happy, but it was funny because it should have been obvious. "Because saying the words in the play in front of a house full of humans is something humans do, and Catseye is not good at being a human."
"You're different from most girls," Jean-Paul agreed, "but there's nothing that can keep you from auditioning if you want to. You have an excellent memory, and that goes a long way for something like this."

"Catseye likes to read the words out loud with her friends but Catseye does not understand all the words," she confessed. "Catseye should not audition when Catseye does not know what the words mean."

"But that is why you have your learned professor, non?" Jean-Paul took a seat on the couch. "Let's go through the story as a whole, then, and we will see if any part calls to you. If you think you would like to try after, we can focus on that. And even if you try and do not get the part, you can come help me and the other stage hands build the forest."

Nodding, Catseye sat down on his couch and opened the book. "If MisterPointyEarsBeaubier will help Catseye then Catseye is sure she can do it! Catseye wants to have fun with her humans so Catseye will build the forest if Catseye cannot read the words like a normal human. But Catseye likes Snug; he is a human who pretends to be a lion!"

"There see?" The speedster looked pleased. "You have a grip on it already. Here, show me the scene..."
