Laurie calls Manuel, fights with him but he will not be swayed on his firm belief that Laurie should stay away from Valentia

Laurie dialled Manual's number on her cell phone, her feet carrying her from one end of the sun room to the other in agitation. She'd left Morgan in their suite, and decided to go to a wide open space for this conversation considering just how angry she was. She'd just had Forge telling her not to be afraid of her powers and then this...this outright prejudice. It was enough to make any girl tear out their hair in frustration, and while she was known for the most part for her rationality in the face of extreme aggravation, even she had her limits.

"Come on Manuel, you coward. Pick up your damn phone." she growled, listening to the ring tone.

Manuel had been busy for most of the week, surprised his schedule was slowly filling up at a very steady pace and talking to Laurie had slipped his mind for the time being. With Valentia at school, he had just gotten out of a meeting when he turned on his cell phone and it impatiently rang. He checked the number and upon not recognizing it, lipped it open. "De la Rocha," he said, turning to see an assistant who gestured for him to follow her down the hallway.

"You're an absolute incredible ass, Manuel De la Rocha." Laurie said, turning and pacing back across the length of the sun room.

Manuel paused, nodding his head to the assistant to keep going while he followed her. "I see you spoke to Morgan before I could speak to you. Charmed."

"I'm not sure how it would've made a difference who spoke to me. It's not every day I get called a monster, unfit to be near small children." Laurie noted, the anger in her voice evident as she looked out over the garden, pausing in her pacing for a moment. "Just where the hell do you get off calling me that? Especially considering your own history."

Irrational as ever, he thought to himself and frowned at the comment about his history. "Check your sources Miss Collins. I did not call you a monster. Those were Morgan's words, therefore you can thank your roommate for addressing you as such."

"Considering Morgan's never lied to me, I believe I'll take her word as to the context of what you were saying." Laurie snapped, fingers clenching against the cell phone in her hand. "Tell me Mr De la Rocha, how is it that you're going to avoid Valentia ever being anywhere near me when we live in the same damn house? Without locking her in a room, or making her hate the sight of me that is? Because giving a little girl a complex about being in the same room with someone is so going to work out well."

Manuel switched ears and stopped when the assistant disappeared through the door, putting up her hand to wait. His tone was cool, distant and formal. "As her guardian, it is within my right to ask that you avoid her. I do not have anything against you Miss Collins, nor I do not care what you do. I do care about any involvement concerning Valentia. She does not know you and I would like to keep it that way."

Laurie took the phone away from her ear for a second, and simply looked at it, her expression incredulous. He really was saying what she thought he was, and the sheer gall of the man left her speechless for a moment. She took a few deep breathes to calm herself before she placed the phone back against her ear.

"I'm not going to leave the room any time she's even near me, and so help me Manuel, if you poison that little girl against me just because you're afraid of what might happen, I swear to God I'll slap you within an inch of your life. There's ways to deal with possible power issues, we can talk to Professor Xavier and Jean, introduce her to me slowly in a controlled environment. You solution is unworkable Manuel, and you're being an arse to even suggest it." she said finally, having gotten control of her temper for the moment.

"You are right. Asking you is clearly the wrong thing to do . I will consult the professor on this instead and not you from now on." Manuel snapped his cell phone shut just as the assistant came out and he took the file from her before opening it. His cell phone was switched off and slipped into his pocket, engaging the woman in light conversation.
