Wanda and Lil
Feb. 11th, 2009 04:30 pmFollowing on Wanda's invitation, Lil stops over and the Amazon meets the Giantess. Bonding over shoes and motorcycles soon follow.
The door to Wanda's apartment was found as it could usually be found open by way of propping a number of heavy, unreadable to most books in front of it. Smells of cooking food wafted out from the kitchen as she moved around, cooking up a quick meal. She was curious about Lil and decided the best way of breaking the ice that didn't include shoe talk was, indeed, with food. Besides, she'd been away so often that it was nice to be able to do some cooking of her own.
Having sweet talked a ride from Bishop with a promise of a date-like activity of his choice, Lil navigated the halls of the Brownstone to Wanda's space a gave a quick knock on the open door. "Anyone home?" She tossed her unbound hair over her shoulder as she peeked into the apartment, not wanting to be rude by assuming waltzing right in. Especially when it smelled like something was on the stove. "It's Lil. From Xavier's."
"Come on in," Wanda called, turning the heat on the stove down to simmer. Goulash was simple to make and good if done right - and doing it right meant not burning it. Once she was sure of that she headed into her living room, blinking when she really did have to look up. "I think it would be hard to misplace you," she said, smiling as she offered Lil her hand. "Wanda. It's nice to meet you in person."
There were women who were taller than Wanda but normally only be an inch or two. This was a rather novel feeling.
The small smile the giantess was wearing blossomed into a brighter, more sincere one when she gave Wanda a firm handshake. "Nice to meet you, too. Thanks for the invite and yeah, it's a little hard to get lost in the crowd but the view isn't bad," Lil chuckled then stuffed her hands into the pockets of her black, leather jacket. "Interesting doorstop."
"Since there seems to be no end of books around here," Wanda replied, leading the way into the living room where books were placed on almost every available flat space since she'd long run out of shelves, "I find novel uses for the ones that I don't need at the moment. Would you like something to drink? You're also more than welcome to stay for something to eat, as well." She grinned. "Gypsy hospitality at it's best, though here I promise your wallet is safe."
Lil's eyes went a little wide as she looked over all the books. Owning only one herself - which was a gift at that - she couldn't imagine her suite covered like Wanda's place was. Of course, if she gave Amara free reign, she'd probably get to live the reality of it. "Water would be great, actually, and I never turn down an offer for food." Fortunately because her powers demanded lots of sustenance to fuel the constant bio-aura her skin produced, it kept whatever she ate from going to her hips, stomach, thighs and all those other places most women fretted over. "My wallet's grateful but to be honest, there's not much in there worth lifting anyway."
For a moment, Wanda disappeared into the kitchen and then came back with two large bowls heaped with food. "A woman after my own heart; I do believe I could grow to be fond of you," she said cheerfully, turning to put the plates on the dark wood table that was nestled in the corner near the kitchen. Another disappearing act but this time she came back with the water. "Women who can't let themselves enjoy food are missing out." Being a gym rat, with her build, meant she could eat without worry. "Please sit. And, by the way. despite my current shoeless nature, I do rather like them. It's nice to talk about them from time to time."
"Best way to the heart is through the stomach." Taking a seat, the blonde's head bobbed in agreement before she looked at her own feet. "One of the benefits of hanging around with His Excellency means I can actually get away with something that has a heel now. Being six-foot-four and wearing size thirteens tends to cause a few problems in the footwear department." The boots she had on now were a new purchase, black leather to match her jacket, they were still unscuffed though Lil doubted they'd stay that way for long.
"And also among the men." Wanda sniffed at that, having had experienced it herself. "Some truly get bent out of shape at the idea of taller women - I gave up years ago, I enjoy my heels too much. So what if I go over six feet with them on? But I can understand the issue with trying to find good sizes. There are some good stores in the city, I'd be happy to show you were they can be found."
"Believe me, I know all about that," Lil said with a roll of her eyes. "Dating was torture when I was younger with all that school crap; the dances and things. Hell, I wore flats at my wedding but I'm kinda liking that I can wear them again so I definitely appreciate any and all help in scoring a few more pairs." Manuel for clothes shopping, Wanda for shoes - who knew being sent to Xavier's was going to result in a whole new wardrobe?
Wanda nodded sagely. "You can always get another man but a good pair of sexy shoes? Those who hold onto for life." She was smiling, just a little, as her eyes crinkled with amusement at her tongue in cheek. "Are you comfortable in heels now? Or has it been a while?"
"I'll drink to that," she laughed, lifting her glass of water before taking a long sip. "Been far too long, sadly so yeah, I'm still adjusting. Can't wear them at work 'cause Harry forbid it and I haven't found a pair yet that can keep up with my gym routine but when the situation allows, I've been trying to get reacquainted with them."
"I miss Harry's, I'll have to make it a point to stop in. He enjoys keeping ridiculously old European drinks for me behind the bar." She took a bite of her food before she continued speaking. "Very sensible. Breaking in shoes is hardship enough but especially if you are out of practice. Have you tried kitten heels yet?"
"You should. I work closing shift three or four times a week bar tending and bouncing when needed." Fortunately, there hadn't been many incidents that called for her to act in the latter role. Lil took up her own bowl and nodded her appreciation after taking a bite. "Very good. Thanks. Kitten heels are pretty much all I've attempted but there's a pair of fuck-me-now, strappy, four inch stilettos I saw online that have been begging me to put a dent in my credit card."
Wanda couldn't help but wonder if the need for an another bounce - besides giving Lil a job - was because of Apocalypse. It hurt to think that but Harry's was known to be mutant friendly; she would have to look into that. But she grinned at Lil's description of the shoes. "Then I say buy them. After all, you can practice in your room or in some of the less crowded rooms at the mansion. And if you don't get them that means someone else will."
"I'm thinking about it. Problem is I'm also trying to save up for a bike so I don't have to bribe Bishop for rides everywhere and those shoes would set me back more than a little bit." Not to mention she hated ordering offline. If she was going to do damage to the plastic, Lil was going to make sure they fit ahead of time. Returning things was always a hassle.
"If not for the fact that wishing my father upon you is hellish at best, I would say we were long lost twins - er, triplets, I suppose considering my twin." She nodded at the corner of the room where a riding helmet and a leather jacket had been placed on a coat rack. "I cannot drive a car to save my life but I can handle a motorcycle just fine. I'll give you the name of the person I bought mine from - he owes me a few favors and I can probably swing you a discount."
Lil let out a little moan of envy. "Could you? I'd really appreciate it." Working at Harry's paid well enough but it was going to be some time yet before she could afford a bike of her own at the rate she was going. "Cars I can handle but again, same problem as the shoes -they're rarely built for someone as tall as me." And when they were, they cost a fortune. But the chance for a discount on a bike... "I'll pay for all your drinks at Harry's from now on if you could manage something for me."
At that, Wanda's grin grew even more. "You have yourself a deal," she laughed, rubbing her hands at the very thought of it. "He does custom work as well so I think he'll be able to give you the ideal bike, height factored in and everything. He's also a sucker for a pretty face so you could probably work out a payment deal."
The blonde made another little noise. "If I didn't already have plans, I would drag you to the shop right now." And she meant it. A chance for a custom bike, she'd walk to wherever with Wanda on her back if she had to. Instead, Lil spooned another bite of the stew into her mouth. "You don't know how long I've wanted one. It's just never happened. I'm beginning to think moving to the States is one of the best things that coulda happened to me, though."
"We'll make a date for it another time," Wanda promised. She would email Henri later that night and cash in a few of those favors he owed her. "I'm glad you seem to be finding this place to be a good fit for you. Xavier's is a good place and it will treat you well - oddly, at times, but well."
"I'm holding you to that. I know where you live now, too, so remember that," Lil laughed, playfully pointing a finger at the other woman. "And Xavier's isn't bad. It isn't home but it isn't bad. I've dealt with odd before; been through Beta Flight up North and am shooting for Alpha when I go back but so far things have been pretty quiet... though..." She gave another little chuckle as she knocked on the table. "Don't wanna jinx anything. I'm still settling in with training and everything so I don't mind it being normal for now."
Wanda pointed at the table with a wry look. "Keep doing that, you'll need it. But seriously whatever trouble gets visited there, the place is worth it. It is a good place to get your feet back on the ground and I speak from experience. Even if the children can be little terrors - though they are amusing and generally good kids."
The blonde nodded then brushed a lock of hair from her face, tucking it back behind her ear. "The kids are good, the few I've spent time with at least but I'm not a teacher or anything so those experiences are limited." Thank God. She didn't know if she could deal with things like laser tag misadventure on a daily basis. "And I've got the foundation stuff from home; it's just getting used to everything again. Been away from anything like this for almost three years but it's like the heels - just gotta get back to it."
"And when every thing else fails," Wanda supplied firmly, "there is always retail therapy. Just keep that in the back of your mind when Xavier's gets to be a little out there and you will do just fine."
"Here here," Lil said, lifting her class in a toast. "Only kinda therapy that's enjoyable. Speaking of which, you have names of those stores? I really need to get a pair of shoes for Friday." Digging into the little pouch that served as a purse, she pulled out a pen and pad to scribble down the recommendations.
Leaning forward, Wanda rubbed her hands together in glee. "The first place you will want to go is this little hole in the wall - it might look a fright, but oh god, the shoes..."
