Laurie and Catseye - early Monday morning
Feb. 16th, 2009 07:49 amLaurie and Catseye play with a laser pen and discuss Laurie's leaving.
Laurie flicked the red spot of the laser pen around Catseye's paws and sent it flying up the wall for a moment before flicking it back down to just short of the purple feline's current reach. She grinned, head cradled against her hand as she lay on one of the sunroom's couches, a blanket draped across her lower legs and feet.
She was taking a rest from some of the catchup reading she'd been doing for school, even if she did now have a complete year off, it didn't mean she didn't want to keep up.
Sunshine and a good game of Chase The Red Dot with Laurie. Catseye was in heaven. She didn't even care that she had no way of catching the laser spot. It wasn't about the victory, it was about the chase, after all. She was going from flinging herself about the room in a frenzied abandon to stalking the thing in a crouch, not moving a muscle for minutes at a time. After all, the game was just as fun for the cat when she could watch Laurie expending energy making the light dart about while Catseye practiced being a statue. Evan always lost patience with her and told her he felt silly when she didn't chase the light, like the game had turned into Catseye watching him look like an idiot, but Laurie obviously had more patience or more self-confidence than her brother did.
Sunshine was making Laurie feel sleepy, but she continued to move the light about, watching Catseye slowly creep up on it, only to dart it out from under her paws when she pounced. It was a game you could play endlessly really, and it was as much fun watching Cateye's eyes dart up to study her face as it was to watch her chase the dot.
"You'll have to get Kyle to play chase the dot with you while I'm travelling." Laurie mused, voice thick with sleepiness.
"Mrrrt!" Catseye answered, tail thwapping as she lined herself up for another pounce, hindquarters wriggling. She made a quick dart and was thwarted again. They'd been at it a while and she was getting tired. And Laurie looked and sounded tired too, so Catseye decided this might be a good time to stop. She shifted and flopped onto the couch with Laurie. "Is BarkingGirl going to come home again after travelling?"
'BarkingGirl?' Laurie wondered, taking a moment before she realised Catseye was talking about her. Her cough must have sound rather like barking for awhile there.
"Yes, unless I meet an incredibly handsome mogul who sweeps me off my feet and takes me away from it all. But even then, I'd still come back." Laurie noted, flicking off the laser pen and placing it on the small side table that always seemed to accompany the chairs and sofas that lay about the sunroom. Somebody, possibly the Professor had obviously foreseen the need for these sorts of things. "Why?"
Catseye snuggled against Laurie's side. "Because Catseye does not like it when her friends leave and never come back. Where is BarkingGirl going? Everywhere?"
"Hmm, I'm not sure." Laurie murmured honestly, her head resting against the armrest of the sofa she was laying on. She had gotten used to Catseye's rapid changes between girl and cat, and now didn't even bat an eyelid when she found herself being cuddled by a rather tall girl, rather then the small purple cat that had been there previously. "Mostly it's just Europe this time around. Everywhere would mean I'd have to go to Asia, and Australia and South America and Africa and the Antartic, although that might be interesting. I might go to South America when I get back, but I'd probably drive over the US first though. You could come with me for that trip, since I heard you like long car trips."
"Catseye does like car trips!" she nodded emphatically. "Catseye has been learning a lot about countries working for SoftHands at Elpis. And because of school. Catseye thinks BarkingGirl should go to visit Egypt because it is where people used to like cats veryverymuch and Catseye thinks it would be nice there. But Egypt is in Africa not Europe," she added sagely.
"Maybe I will be going to Africa then, the tour operators said something about it ending in Egypt, I think." Laurie murmured. "You could always come and meet us there. Have you ever travelled out the United States?"
"BarkingGirl is going to Egypt?! Catseye would like to come yesyesyes!" she cried excitedly, sitting up on the couch, eyes wide. After a moment, however, the catgirl's face fell. "No, Catseye has never been outside the United States. Catseye knows that humans and animals need papers to go to other countries and Catseye has school."
"Well, I think the trip we're doing is during Spring break, but yeah, you'd need to have papers. Your brother never got you a passport or anything like that?" Laurie asked, pushing herself into a sitting position.
"Nope," she responded with a shake of her head. "Maybe SoftHands could help but Catseye knows that flying on a CarWithWings costs lots of money and Catseye is making money working for SoftHands but not enough money for buying a CarWithWings ticket for spring break. BarkingGirl will have to tell Catseye all about Egypt and the cats though!" She wasn't going to get upset, knowing that Laurie would share stories with her when she came back, although she was still a little crestfallen. "Maybe BarkingGirl will like it so much she will go back with Catseye another time?"
Laurie reached over and gave Catseye a hug, hoping to cheer the somewhat crestfallen girl up. "Of course we can go another time. And with me going first I'll get to know all the really good places to go so I can show you around. I promise to take lots of pictures and tell you all about it when I get back though, so that way you won't miss a thing."
"Thank you BarkingGirl," Catseye smiled, headbutting Laurie's chin with the top of her head. "Does BarkingGirl want to play Chase The Red Dot some more or is it naptime?"
"I'm thinking nap time, myself. I'm still sort of sleepy these days, even if Jean's given me a complete bill of health." Laurie admitted.
