Cammie and Yvette talk over Cammie's idea of a lunch.

Two sessions a week was a good way to let off steam, Cammie decided. Considering the sparring session she had just come from. She was beat up, but it was a good feeling. The soreness didn't bother her as she walked into the kitchen rolling her right shoulder to loosen it. She loved the fighting, it was the losing that annoyed the hell out of her. And hopefully that would happen less and less the more she learned.

She'd worry about that later though, right now it was time for a snack. Either of the fridge cleaning variety or the chemical variety, she hadn't quite made up her mind yet.

As she came in through one door, Yvette was coming in through another - the back door, to be precise. The small red girl had paused on the steps to shake the dead leaves and mud and snow off her hair and bodysuit, but her hair still held a few bits of foliage, evidence of one of her 'runs' through the woods. Her eyes lit up, literally, when she saw Cammie. "Hello!" she chirped, radiating cheerfulness - even with everything going on, giving herself time to explore the woods without her gloves or socks, climbing trees and racing through underbrush on all fours always improved her mood. Time off the usual care she had to take.

"Hey," she said as the red girl walked in, "Weren't you cold outside?" she asked, raising an eyebrow as she opened up the fridge. Cammie detested the cold, but that didn't mean others weren't totally okay with it. Hell, she didn't even like sticking her hands in a freezer. There was a reason she preferred the hot weather down south. "With all the snow and stuff, anyway?"

Yvette shook her head as she waited for the older girl to get whatever it was she wanted, reluctant to infringe on either of their personal spaces. "I do not feel the cold," she explained. "Except if it is being very strong. My skin, it does not feel much, yes? Hot or cold." Or mostly anything else, for that matter - electricity tickled and the rasp of the wire brush she used instead of a loofa was barely a tingle. "You do not like the cold? I have not seen you outside so much."

"No, I'm not really a big fan of the cold. I get cold really easily," Cammie said, pulling some stuff out from the back of the fridge and setting it on one of the cupboards. "I don't get along with the cold. If you do, that's cool. Lil was kinda saying she was the same way."

With the way to the fridge clear, Yvette took her turn, pulling out an apple and a bottle of milk and heading for the other side of the counter to Cammie. "We are a little the same, yes. Things cannot be hurting us, and we do not feel the things so much. Her skin cannot be cutting you, not like me." Yvette pointed to one of the higher cupboards. "Could you be passing me the glass, please?"

"Sure," Cammie said. She might not have been very tall, but she was taller than Yvette and the cupboard was within reach for her so she grabbed the kid a glass and set it down for her. They both weren't big on touching so not handing it to her directly wasn't any sort of insult or anything. "Yeah, her skin isn't sharp like yours. But hey, you could touch her without worrying about cutting her up. That's a good thing." She paused, and then, "Oh yeah, thanks for packing peanuts you brought up while I was in the med lab."

Yvette smiled as she poured herself a glass of milk. "You are being welcome. I was hoping you were liking them. It is the usual thing for me to give people the apples, but you did not seem like you would be able to taste them and that is the waste, yes?"

"Yeah," Cammie said. "Don't want to be wasting food. By the time I can taste an apple, you wouldn't really want it sitting around anymore," Cammie said, putting together what would be her snack-lunch type thing.

The small girl shrugged. "I am not minding the bad smells so much. I have the, how do you say? Strong stomach, yes?" She paused, and then added, almost diffidently. "When I was the little girl, I was living in Kosovo, during the war. There were many things that were not so nice to be watching or smelling."

“Yeah, that would suck,” Cammie said. She had been through a lot of things, but war wasn’t one of them. “And yep, it’s ‘strong stomach.’ A lot of people don’t have that though, so that’s why I eat alone most of the time,” she said. It was also a privacy issue and a thing about not wanting people to catch you when you were vulnerable, but those weren’t things she was going to explain.

"My English, it is getting better, but the sayings, they are sometimes hard to remember. Thank you." Yvette peeled off one glove and began slicing her apple into smaller pieces with her fingers. "I understand if you are wanting the privacy, but can I be asking what you are making for the lunch?"

“Sandwich. Some sort of mystery meat, there was a lot of it in the freezer so I took it out and let it ripen a bit,” Cammie said simply. “It will be good with the food I’m stealing from Lil – she said I could have anything of hers that had started to grow fuzz, so we’re all good there,” Cammie said matter-of-factly.

"It might be the venison - Miss Morgan was bringing many deers back for the freezer," Yvette observed, eyeing the sandwich with cautious fascination. "The boys' fridges might also be the good place for the bad food. Not Kyle, because he has the super nose, but maybe some of the others? They are sometimes very busy with the school and do not remember so much to be cleaning." It was said with a wry chuckle.

“Ah, so it’s venison then. I thought it tasted kinda funny,” Cammie said. She hadn’t exactly had much in the way of deer before. “Heh, and I’ll see. Sometimes that food is too rotted even for me.” Even though it tasted good she drew the line when something acquired what could only be called ‘fridge sludge’ or was obviously over three years old.

Nibbling at pieces of apple, Yvette grinned. "It is the good thing, to know your limits."
