Jay and Catseye - Sunday afternoon
Mar. 22nd, 2009 06:13 pmCatseye has an inkling for watching a dripping tap in the boy's bathroom and finds Jay taking care of business. The future of their friendship is discussed.
Passing one of the mens' washrooms, Catseye paused. She could hear running water. This was the washroom that had a leaky tap at one of the sinks, and she enjoyed watching it. And sometime drinking from it. A leaky tap was a fascination to the purple feline. She stood up on her hind legs and pushed the door open with her front paws, bounding into the room and leaping up on the bank of sinks before she realized that it wasn't running water she'd heard. It was Jay. Surprised, she froze in front of the sink. Even her tail wasn't moving.
With one hand pressed flat against the cool tile, Jay busied his other hand at the urinal, allowing his relief to stream down the drain because of one too many drinks earlier. A movement of purple caught the corner of his eye and he briefly glanced in that direction. It took another second for it to register who it was.
"Cats!" Jay yelled, cutting himself off and turned his back to her, quickly tucking himself back in.
Zzzzziipppp!
"What's the matter with you? Havn't'cha heard of privacy?!"
Taken aback by the yelling, Catseye hissed at him, arching her back. She'd been meaning to talk to Jay, ever since she had spoken to Yvette, but hadn't intended to run into him like this.
Jay's expression turned serious and he cocked his head with the words 'you did not just hiss at me' flaring in his eyes.
"Get out already!"
Catseye shifted into girlform, legs dangling over the sink. "BlueBirdBoy should not yell at Catseye!" she spat out, not liking the sense of 'predator' that Jay now carried with him. It frightened her a little, along with the memory of their last encounter. "Catseye just wanted to watch the tap dripping! Didn't know anyone was here! Catseye wasn't hurting anybody!" She slid off the counter and onto the floor in case she had to shift into BigCat to protect herself from Jay.
"Well ya got to see it now, didn't ya!" Jay turned around now, rolling his shoulders back and his face flushed with embarressment. He couldnt' believe she just stood there but then, yes he could because she was Cats and thats what she did. Tugging up the sleves of his sweater, he flipped on the tap and thoroughly washed his hands. He didn't ahve to look at her stance to know it was defensive. He could feel like some second degree instinct laid within him and he shook it off. "You need to knock next time..."
"Catseye said sorry," she reiterated, grumpy but not angry anymore, now that he seemed to have calmed down slightly. She relaxed her posture. "How come BlueBirdBoy yells at Catseye and doesn't want to be Catseye's friend anymore?" she asked bluntly.
Shaking his head, he dried his hands with the air drier and wiped the rest dry off the thighs of his jeans. He noticed the new name she dubbed him and wanted to fix the name, but didn't bother. She was a headcase all on her own. "Look, Ah didn't say Ah didn't wanna be your friend. Ah'm just wantin' a little space, that's all. And you bargin' in here don't help that any."
"BlueBirdBoy didn't say he wanted space," Catseye reminded him, "BlueBirdBoy yelled. He yelled at Catseye to leave before, and now he yelled again! Catseye wants to give space but does not like space all the time because space all the time means never seeing BlueBirdBoy at all! Catseye wants her friend back for talking and napping and playing," she said sadly. "If BlueBirdBoy wants allthetimespace then Catseye doesn't know how to be BlueBirdBoy's friend. And Catseye didn't barge."
"Look Cats, Ah just needed a little bit of space," Jay said, passing her in the washroom to leave. "You gotta respect that." He pulled the door open and went through. But he did stop and hold the door open for her if she wanted to follow.
"Catseye does respect!" She followed him out. "Catseye respects privacy and space!" Most of the time. "Catseye does! But friends don't want allthetimespace with friends. Catseye stayed away because BlueBirdBoy yelled to get out but Catseye does not want to stay away all the time! Friends who stay away all the time are not friends! Does BlueBirdBoy want Catseye to give allthetimespace and stay away all the time?" It made her sad to even ask, but she liked Jay enough to want to give him what he wanted, and if he wanted her to stay away from him, then she would.
Jay stopped in the hallway and looked down at her. "Course Ah don't want that. Don't be silly." He sighed, resigned to running his hand through his hair - a sign that he was a bit frustrated. "Let's just forget everythin' that happened all right?"
The catgirl cocked her head at him, wary. He'd scared her quite badly before, and she'd been very hurt by his anger. "BlueBirdBoy is not AngryBirdBoy anymore? Fixed his broken brain a small bit? Friends helping him fix it more?"
"Ah was just havin' a bad time. Some of 'em help, Dani and Kane mostly. So yeah, you could say that. C'mon," Jay slung his arm around her shoulders and pulled her into him, mostly in another direction to walk. While he didn't feel like being this way, he knew the way she was, that she needed contact to know that everything was fine before she'd let something go. "Ah'm starvin and Ah know there's a big fat burger with your name on it at the burger shack."
She buried her head in his shoulder, happy for the hug. "Catseye can help too," she told him determinedly. "BlueBirdBoy thinks Catseye does not understand, but Catseye does. BlueBirdBoy changed and is angry that he can't change back. It is like when Catseye found that she was a girl mutant not a cat mutant," she explained. "Catseye was very angry and also sad because Catseye wanted to be a cat not a girl. Catseye wanted to be the same as before, but mutants and cats and humans can't go backwards in time, only forwards. Catseye does understand and Catseye wants to help BlueBirdBoy. And eat burgers with BlueBirdBoy," she added with a grin, nuzzling his cheek with her nose.
"All right, all right," Jay pulled away from her a bit. "No mauling. If there's gonna be mauling, it better be six foot somethin', so tall, dark and somethin', something, like close to handsome. Gotta have pretty eyes, oh and male," Jay nodded to her. "Served on a silver platter, with south western sauce and.."
Catseye cocked her head in confusion again. "Is BlueBirdBoy talking about a human or a deer?"
"Ah think Ah just need a burger. Let's go."
"Catseye wants to know if BlueBirdBoy is putting sauce on a human or a deer!" she exclaimed as she let herself be led off to the Burger Shack.
