Dani & Sam FINALLY go shooting at the shooting range. There is friendly competition.

"You ready to play Cowboys and Indians?" Dani asked cheekily, as Sam arrived to the garage. They had talked about going to check out the local shooting range before she had disappeared and were finally now going to do it. Dani was nervous, she'd never really hung out with Sam and being social was an effort. But she was also excited too, because she was being social. "'Cause the story's gonna end differently this time."

"Going to end with everyone getting along, I hope." Sam shot back playfully. Since she wanted to meet up in the garage he assumed they weren't flying there. It was what he preferred because it was much faster. He tended to reserve driving for big trucks and mudding but he'd do it her way. Probably let her drive too. "I even borrowed that little revolver so that you can fire it a bit. I'll take it back to the farm tomorrow, maybe."

Raising an eyebrow at the gun case he carried, Dani tried to remember back to what he was talking about. Oh! Right, the e-bay bid! Ooops, she'd forgotten about that part. "With the Indians kicking the Cowboy behind," she retorted playfully. She had the keys to the old beat up truck she liked to drive. The shooting range wasn't that far and right now, she had no desire to fly. Not even on in airplane. "Your brother like it?" she asked.

"It was for Melody, actually. She likes it well enough. Sometimes I feel I'm the last farm boy Guthrie. Paige has her medicine and Jay has his music. All the other young ones have their own things too." Sam and Momma had devoted their lives to the farm more than anyone else had to. They did chores and knew all the tasks but the whole family seemed to be moving on beyond farming.

"Cowboys are a dying breed," Dani agreed, getting in the truck, "I mean real ones. Not these Nascar loving rednecks. They ain't cowboys. I mean cattle driving, rodeo cowboys. Almost as rare an Indians these days, but no less important. So you gonna go back and farm one day then?" she asked. They didn't farm on the reservation she had grown up on, except for the occasional backyard garden. She'd tried her hand at it and it was harder and a lot more work than she had anticipated. It had been good to grow her own vegetables for a little while though like a lot of things, it hadn't lasted.

"I'll probably stay here for a long time." Sam climbed into the passenger side of Dani's truck. "I expect that a few more Guthries might end up here at some point and it's easy for me to go back and forth to help out." Taking care of his family, no matter how good at it some people would suggest he is or isn't, was one thing always on Sam's mind.

"Damn rabbits," Dani commented with a smile. The Guthrie parents really must have been part rabbit with the number of kids they had, though at least there weren't any more Guthries for a while unless Sam or Paige decided to try their hand at rabbitness. Of course, it was easy to comment when she could have easily been in the same position as Ma Guthrie in a few years. "You gonna do that then too? Make lots of little Guthries and turn Xavier's school in to the Guthrie army?"

"I wouldn't mind having a big Family but I can't imagine Morgan wanting to settle down that much." Sam laughed softly at being called a rabbit and at the idea of Morgan having a brood of children.

Oh now there was an image! Somehow, Dani couldn't see Morgan with a brood of children either. She hadn't really met the blue skinned woman, but she had seen her about on the journals and such, "Ain't really her style, no," Dani agreed with a laugh. She didn't laugh much these days. "I can see you with a lot though."

"Maybe some day. I try not to plan too much around here because things always seem to change." Sam had actually spent a lot more time raising the other Guthries then he was given credit for. He would be happy for a little while without that responsibility. That could change, though.

It didn't take too long to reach the shooting range. A long, low, cement building on the outskirts of Salem Center opposite where the school was. "You ever go to one of these things?" she asked, pulling the truck into a space and parking it, "I only ever shot at bottles outside."

"I usually shoot on the farm." Sam climbed down from the truck, the box with his pistol inside in hand. "I bet this is safer... at least we won't have to worry about the hogs wondering out to see what's going on." They never seemed to be scared of the shooting like most other animals were and he never understood why that was.

That was a very good point, "Or little kids," she added, thinking about how the little ones always wanted to watch, "Definitely safer. All them regulations and such," they went in and stopped at the guy at the counter to fill out forms and various paperwork that needed to be done. It was exhaustive. "I didn't realize there was this much," she commented to Sam as she sat on a hard plastic chair to fill the forms out.

"I can't imagine they actually need to know all this for us to fire guns we're already allowed to own." Sam sighed, propping a hand on his cheek as he continued to fill out the forms. "Sometimes I wonder why all these businesses have to go poking their noses into everyone's business. Maybe that's why the call them businesses...?" He smirked to Dani, looking to see how the joke landed.

Smirking, Dani nodded, "Government regulations, getting involved in everything, Damn nuisance is what it is. Business is right," her pen was running out of ink and she shook it try to get it to write longer. Sighing, she got up to get another pen. What did they want, her life's story?

Sam focused back on finishing his form, planning to be done before Dani so that he could set everything up for them. After all this they were certainly going to need to shoot something. He decided that he was just going to fly back to Kentucky in the future; this wasn't worth it.

Sitting back down, she continued to fill out the forms, surprised they didn't want to know her sexual history or other information that had no bearing on shooting a gun in this place. At least she could safely say that she didn't need to go through the beginner safety class or anything.

"You know," she said, "I wonder if I could persuade him just to let us through?" her powers didn't work that way at all nor would she use them like that if she could, but was fun to speculate. "Make things so much easier," she could scare him into submission, though that didn't give guaranteed results.

"I just hope we only have to do this the once and then we can come back without all this." Sam stood as he finally finished. He moved to the window to turn the paperwork in, then to their pistols in order to set up the range and load the firearms for them so Dani could begin immediately once she finished the paperwork.

"I'd imagine so...." Dani had no idea how they would get repeat customers if they had to fill out all this paperwork each time they came. Finally though, she finished and handed it all in. Did they actually read it all and do the background checks and whatever? She assumed they must, but it seemed so time consuming for so little return. "Alright. Let's do it."

Sam pushed open the swinging door to the range and followed Dani in. "I'm not sure the range is set up for any sort of competitions though. I expect you might have to just play nice and leave the score to settle for later." He said playfully, smiling.

"If I did it would be an unexpected twist, wouldn't it?" Sam fired back with a small smirk and a sidelong glance.
