Log: Dani & Dori
May. 4th, 2009 01:28 pmDani decide to systematically go introduce herself to the new residents. Some she likes more than others.
With the influx of new residents and students recently, Dani was forcing herself to emerge from her cave and meet them. She was an RA again, she should know her residents. This had been suggested by her psychologist and approved by Prof. Xavier. She could do it. Her stomach was in knots though. Standing in front of Doreen's door, she took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. Calm was better. Calm meant she wouldn't tear our Doreen's fears and broadcast them for fun. The urge to do so was less, though she did enjoy it perhaps too much. Not now though.
She knocked before she chickened out. Maybe Doreen wouldn't be in?
Somedays the fates were kind. Today was not that day. There was a sound almost like a struggle, a soft thud and then the door opened, Doreen standing there smiling, Monkey Joe on her head and a bedsheet tangled around her ankle. She had been studying and her bed was more comfortable than trying to work at a desk most times.
“Hi!” she said brightly.
"Hi," Dani tilted her head to one side slightly, taking in her disheveled appearance. And a squirrel. She'd been told there was a squirrel, but to see it was a little strange. Welcome to Xavier's, where strange was the norm. "I'm Dani. I'm the new RA and I wanted to say and introduce myself since we hadn't met," she hadn't met a lot of the new people except Cammie really, but whose fault was that? Oh yeah, hers.
“I’m Doreen,” Doreen said brightly and the squirrel just tilted his head to one side, “You can call me Dori if you want. Did you want to want to come in at all? Oh, this is Monkey Joe,” Doreen said looking up at the squirrel on her head, “He’s really friendly. You don’t have to worry about him biting or anything.
Mmm, squirrel. Dani wanted to kill it. Break its little neck. With effort, she pushed those thoughts aside. No killing the squirrel. It hadn't done anything except look at her and that was not a reason. Besides, Dani was pretty sure that if Catseye could exercise self restraint, she could too. "I wasn't worried," she reassured Dori with a small smile, there was no way he would be allowed in the building if he was a danger to anyone. Hesitantly, she offered him a finger to sniff, did squirrels do that or was it just a large-animal thing? "Sure, if you want. There wasn't anything in particular I needed other than to introduce myself and see if you were okay, had any questions, whatever."
Monkey Joe did start sniffing; Doreen was able to pick up scent too and did. She had been able to smell things even more since getting out of LA’s smog, and Dani smelled like baking. It was making Doreen hungry. “Everything is going great so far, better than I thought it would,” Doreen admitted. It was mostly true. Except when she had to deal with the Cuckoos.
"Where're you from, again?" Dani had received files on the new students, just basic information like where they were from and their powers to help get herself acquainted, but that didn't mean she had remembered what she had read. "That's good. This isn't a normal school, even for a boarding school, not everyone adjusts so well."
“I’m from LA. In Beverly Hills,” she said happily, “I know, but I still think it’s neat,” she said. Even though she hadn’t wanted to go here at first she thought she was settling in okay. It was better that there was a friend here. Besides, there was that prayer her mom had said on more than one occasion about accepting the things you can’t change… she couldn’t remember the whole thing, but that wasn’t important right now.
LA? Beverly Hills? Ritzy. Dani always had problems relating to those she thought were rich, which was pretty much everyone here it seemed. At least in her mind. "That's good. Your roommate okay? Callie?" That squirrel was staring at her. She didn't like it.
“Yeah, she’s nice, she got Monkey Joe a cat bed. I’ve been wanting to do it for awhile but I didn’t have the money,” Doreen said simply.
A cat bed for the squirrel was funny and Dani giggled a little, that was just silly. Didn't cats hunt squirrels? "You met Catseye, yet?" she asked, maybe it was only a matter of time before Catseye got Monkey Joe. Maybe it wasn't self restraint and more that she was ignorant of the existence of the little squirrel-rat.
“Yep,” Doreen said, “She’s nice.” Though the very presence of her often rattled Dori. “It’s nice to know I’m not the only person here with a tail.”
"Kurt has one too," Dani informed her, "Kurt Wagner. He teaches dance I think?" she was so behind on who was teaching what currently, "We're pretty well represented for skittles colours and random extras like tails, wings, whatever."
“I know, I met him. It is really cool,” Doreen said, “Even better because I haven’t had to pull anything out of the fur since I got here!”
What did she mean by that? Did Dani even want to know? "Like what?" she asked, unsure she wanted an answer. On the other hand, it could be important. Maybe.
“Oh, like spitballs and things,” Doreen said simply.
Oh. Of course. Normal school...not that Dani had ever had a problem at hers. "Yeah...be careful though. There are prank wars...hair dye has ended up in shampoo before," though chances were, if that happened to Dori she would be just as guilty of something else.
“Really?” Doreen asked, “That’s not nice. I wouldn’t do that to someone…” And she hoped no one did it to her. She needed a lot of shampoo to keep her tail fur clean.
"Oh if you're not in the prank war, nothing will happen," Dani hastily reassured her, "but you saw Mr. Dayspring and Mr. Beaubier," she smirked, it had been entertaining, even if it had caused some problems. At least they recognized their immaturity.
“Oooooh. Okay,” Doreen said and then giggled a bit, “That was funny.”
"Yup," Dani nodded, then glanced at Monkey Joe. Evil thing. "I'll let you get back to what you're doing, but it was good to meet you," she smiled and headed back down the hall. There. She'd done her meet and greet. And shh hadn't killed the squirrel.
“Bye!” Doreen said waving as she left. Well, she was nice.
