After her roommate goes completely feral, Callie sets off in search of someone who can help who. The person she finds isn't quite who she was looking for, but still is able to help.
It shouldn't be this difficult to find three people. Not even all three of them together, only one of them was needed really. And that should make finding them easier to find right? Only apparently the universe didn't seem to think so. People only showed up when you didn't want them to, and when you actually needed them they were no where to be found. Callie didn't know if that was because they really didn't want to be found, or she was just looking in all of the wrong places. Neither possibility changed the fact that she needed an RA, and she needed one now.
Squirrel still in tow, Callie was searching frantically for one of the three RAs she knew existed. She didn't know what to do about Doreen's freak out, and figured that they would the best. After all that's what they were there for.
In a classic case of searching without really looking to see what's in front of your face, Callie collided with another body, though still not one of the ones she was looking for. "I'm so sorry! Are you okay? I'm sorry."
Oh, this was why you weren't supposed to walk around while reading. Kyle had never really gotten it before, not being a nose-in-book kind of guy. He liked reading, but outside in trees where he could get some sun and fresh air, or inside near a warm heater when it was cold and wet and gross outside. But with finals over he had time to read for fun and he'd gotten invested in a book and hadn't wanted to stop and figured really, how hard could it be to get from place to place while reading at the same time. He had enhanced senses, he should've heard or smelled Callie before they collided.
"'sokay." Kyle picked himself up and shook the paperback out to make sure none of the pages were too badly mangled, and then noticed Monkey Joe, and that Callie looked, sounded and smelled freaked out. "Uh. Everything okay? Cause, you know, with the blam and also the oh-em-gee face and the squirrel?"
“Kyle!” She was probably a little too loud and a little too enthusiastic with his name, but was she ever grateful to find him. “This is perfect! You have no idea. I’m so glad I ran into you. Where’s Jan?”
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Breathing. It totally helps make your words make sense. I think Jan's still at classes, I can text her or something. What's up?" Okay, she needed Jan. And she had Dori's squirrel. Maybe Dori was having some kind of girl problem? Kyle pulled his phone out of his back pocket, and started tapping out a text message. "And dude, it's okay. I'm sure if we weren't, there'd be gossip. I mean, it's not like anyone's got any privacy around here most of the time."
“She’s in class? Merda!” Callie quickly covered her mouth, a sheepish look on her face. “Look I’m sorry. It’s just that Dori had a complete freakout. Like she was in the room scratching at the window and making sounds, and she didn’t seem to know who I was, and like couldn’t understand what I was saying, and, did I mention she was making weird sounds?, and she like ran out of the room. I have no idea what’s going on and I’m looking for one of the RA’s, but if she’s in class I mean there’s not much she can do. Have you seen Dani or Tommy or anyone? Like, seriously, I have no idea what’s going on.”
"Wait, like total meltdown? No talking or anything." Kyle covered his face with one hand and groaned. "Fuuuuuuck." He wasn't supposed to swear in front of the kids but fuck-it she'd just said shit or something in Italian, it sounded like the French word for shit, and he knew that one. He'd heard it enough times. "I have no freaking idea where they are. Crap on toast. Shitshitshit." And he'd told the poor kid that maybe Doc Samson could help her not have any more of those freakouts, and tried to talk to her about it.
And God only knew where she'd gotten off to, if she was having a total feral nervous breakdown. "Okay, look, let me into your room for a sec. I need to find something I can use to smell her out. And then I need you to call the Prof, and if you can't get him, just go upstairs and tart knocking on doors until you find somebody actually on staff that's not me. I'm gonna go find her." Because he could, once he had her scent and someone had to, and if she had gone total meltdown, she was probably somewhere out there in the couple of acres of trees doing her best to not be found.
It took a moment for Callie to process everything that Kyle had just said. Her mind was working a million miles a minute, spreading in all different directions and hopping about with no real pattern. “Right. Okay room. Okay. I’ll take you there. I’ll see if I can find the Professor or someone else tell them and you go find Dori. Right. Got it. Let’s go.”
Once Callie let him into the room, Kyle went straight for Dori's bed, grabbing a pillow and shucking the case. Anyone else, and he'd have grabbed a sock. Feet stunk, and socks picked that up. But Dori, like Kyle, was hell on socks. And he couldn't exactly go through the kid's dirty laundry. Even if a bra would've been the next best thing to a sock. That way went 'dumped, fired and probably arrested for being a sick pervert.', with additional Chris Hansen telling him to 'take a seat over there."
But the pillowcase worked well enough, and Kyle was most of the way to just not caring what it looked like when he stuck his face in it to catch Dori's scent. But once he had it, he had it for sure, and had a good idea of how she'd left the room and in what state. Frantic, totally freaked out and Unhappy.
"Whoever you find, tell them I'm looking for Dori. And if they're no help just keep trying to find somebody. Even if you gotta go downstairs and bug Doc Voght." Kyle said, already halfway out of the room and heading for the stairs. "She's outside for sure, I'm gonna go find her."

Finally, she runs across Dani and explains to her what happened to Doreen.
"Don't worry," Callie assured the squirrel on her shoulder. "We'll find an RA and they'll know what to do. Dori will be alright."
I still can't believe I am talking to a squirrel. And letting it ride on my shoulder.
As she was pondering this bizarre twist in her life, the chloropath rounded a corner and breathed a sigh of relief. There at the other end of the hallway was one of the people she was searching for. She quickly removed Monkey Joe from his perch on her shoulder and coddled him in her arms before setting off at as fast as her long limbs would carry her.
"Miss Moonstar! Dani! Wait up! I need you!"
Turning, Dani was surprised to see Callie and Monkey Joe. She still hated that damn squirrel, but she only spared him a quick glance, Callie was obviously upset over something, "What can I do for you?" she asked. Maybe someone else would have said 'for you two,' but Dani was not acknowledging the squirrels sentience if she didn't have to.
"Dori, you know Doreen Green, my roommate?, well she had a complete feral freakout and like just fled and like I found Kyle and he's out searching for her but I needed to tell you, or the Professor, because you're an RA and you'd know what to do, I think, but even if you can't handle it you'd know who would be able to right?" There was maybe a breath in there, but the likelihood of that given how fast she was spewing her words was very low.
"Breathe." Dani nodded, that was Doreen's squirrel, Monkey Joe. "Okay," Dani placed her hands reassuringly on the other girl, she was practically vibrating. Ignoring Callie's fears, Dani tried to look reassuring, "We'll find her. And Kyle's an X-Man and knows about this stuff, he'll help," she was relieved to hear that he was already involved. Flipping her phone open, she shot a text message to the staff so they would know what was going on.
"No no no no no. I mean I know he'll find her, he has like a super nose and stuff, but I still needed to tell you guys because well you need to know. So we can make sure she's okay."
