Jubilee and Jean-Paul
May. 15th, 2009 01:08 amJubilee stops by for a surprise late-night visit and finds that Jake wasn't spending the night alone.
Jake's apartment door was about as hard to unlock as a box full of Kleenex, and possibly about as secure. Jubilee made a note to talk to him about getting the locks replaced with something more substantial, you could never tell what sort of lowlifes might wander in at odd hours of the morning. Jake wasn't on the couch, and the television was off, which seemed a little odd.
Normally she'd find him dozing slightly at this time of night, slightly more armless then during the day, and more then ready for whatever movie marathon she might suggest.
Jubilee had found that you could suggest almost anything to Jake when he was half asleep, and he'd end up doing almost all of it before he'd realised what was going on. Luckily for him, she used her powers for good, and not evil and the worst she'd made him do was make them tea and some popcorn.
"Oh Jaaaake?" Jubilee singsonged, heading toward his bedroom.
A blur of motion drew up short behind Jubilee and resolved itself as a sleep-mussed Jean-Paul Beabuier. The speedster frowned, lowering the fist that had paused less than an inch from the back of Jubilee's skull, and folded his arms across his chest. The only thing that stopped the blow from landing was the knowledge that people with ill intent rarely announced their presence, and then he'd had enough time to recognize the newcomer.
"If you wake him up," he whispered, "I am pitching you off the roof."
It was lucky that Jean-Paul was faster by far then Jubilee, otherwise the punch she aimed at his gut on instinct would have connected rather solidly, as it was, she had to compensate for the sudden lack of speedster in her direct path and did a forward roll to get some pace between them before she heard his comment.
"JP?" Jubilee blinked, and then her eyes traveled downwards over the extremely naked man in front of her. "Wow, like, I don't know anyone your age who wasn't circumcised. Weird, dude. So...you and Jake, huh?"
"You have an odd concept of time, Jubilation." Jean-Paul had no intention of getting dressed for one interloper when he would just have to go through the trouble of getting undressed again when he went back to bed, hopefully in a very little while. "What are you doing here?"
Jubilee pointed to the backpack currently still fastened across her back. "DVDs, popcorn, like do you actually talk to Jake, or do you just fuck? Cause seriously, I do this a lot. You gonna quit with the protective bullshit, or do I totally have to put you over my knee?"
She grinned at the last, completely spoiling the serious, no-nonsense expression she'd had going on.
"Considering that some unknown party appears to have an interest in cutting off pieces of the man I am sleeping with, I would say that I have good reason to be protective when people enter unannounced. I would like to keep the rest of him more or less intact."
"You're kidding me, right?" Jubilee said, giving Jean-Paul a quizzical look. "Jake lives next door to more sneaky types then you can count on one hand, plus this building has not only modern security, but a witch with wards about the place that'd take a bit of mussing with to bypass, and even then that'd alert her. Quit with the totally needless worrying, dude. You'll get wrinkles or something."
"You do whatever helps you sleep better at night. I will do the same. So to speak."
"Wow, arrogant much? Remember who the hell we are, Dude. You're just the guy sleeping with him, we're his team. Don't get above your pay grade." Jubilee noted, breezing past him and into Jake's kitchen. She dumped her bag on the counter and went to look in the fridge. "You want something to eat?"
Jean-Paul resisted the urge to roll his eyes, but didn't bother following. Yes, late night dick-measuring contests were just what he needed. "No, I am going to bed, as I was intending to before you walked in. Feel free to stand guard in my stead." He headed for the bedroom again.
"Suit yourself. More cake for me, really," Jubilee noted, unphased. "I'd watch it with the smothering attitude of protectiveness +4 though, if I were you. Not many people like having someone assume they're completely helpless to take care of themselves."
