Julian seeks out Angel to talk about prom, but she has other plans...

Still a little confused over the conversation he'd had with Manuel a few days before, and not wanting rumors to start circulating through the psychic grapevine, Julian decided to seek out Angel. With the weather finally getting warm enough, the majority of the mansion's residents were outside enjoying the spring air. Sunglasses on and figuring that she'd be out taking pictures, he decided to start with the back yard.

Julian was partially right - Angel was out in the sun and enjoying the spring day but for once she'd left her equipment back in the room she shared with Yvette. A pile of her things had been left on the grass but Angel was doing loops in the air high above her backpack. She would speed up in a loop and then would let gravity take care of her on the way down. Giggles proceeded her falls each time and she ignored the fact that she was making herself slightly dizzy.

It took all of five seconds to spot Angel's giddy flying, so Julian headed in her general direction. After finding her backpack, he plopped down in the grass and watched her leisurely loops- admiring the view he was privileged to be getting. After a few minutes had passed he yelled up to her, hands cupped over his mouth, "Show off!"

Lost in her own world, the shout threw her off in mid loop and she yelped as she dropped unexpectedly. Luckily for the both of them Angel leveled off pretty quickly before diving, on purpose and in earnest, for the ground and her boyfriend. She passed right over his head before turning into a controlled landing. "Almost scared the pants right off of me!" she laughed, coming to a stop.

"Not entirely sure how that'd be a bad thing," he quipped back. He patted the ground next to himself and gave her a cocky smile, "You looked good up there." Small talk first, about the beautiful day and perhaps swimming in the morning- save the awkward conversation with Manuel for when they were both in a good mood.

His girlfriend, however, was already armed and waiting. Forewarned and all that. Angel sprawled on the grass at his side and smirked up at him - a look that she had obviously picked up from someone else. "So, tell me about prom," she started slowly, plucking blades of grass with her fingers. She didn't set them on fire, though, because she didn't want to give him too much of a wrong impression.

"I-huh?" the sudden shift toward what he'd been trying to avoid threw him off. It took Julian a moment to put his thoughts together, "I was thinking- limo, nice restaurant, dancing- and of course a seedy motel after. I mean we don't want to toss out the prom cliches, right?" He smiled, hoping that Angel would get that he was joking. The conversation he'd had with Manuel would wait until after they had their plans established.

"You know, I think we might want to try something a little different." She squinted up at him and decided she was really pretty bad at playing games, even if they were meant in good fun. "Manuel came by to talk to me," Angel clarified after a moment and then she stopped to watch what he would do next.

Busted. "Oh? That's funny, I was just about to tell you about a talk I had with him the other day." Damage control mode, 'What did Manuel talk to her about?' "So what did he have to say?"

"Basically he told me that he owes certain someones a favor and wanted you to take said certain someones to the prom." Angel stretched and tried to get comfortable with blades of grass poking her through her shirt. "You know, it would kind of be a nice thing to do for her..." she said carefully.

Julian blinked, not sure that he was understanding, "Wait... are you saying you want me to take Esme Stepford to prom?"

She reached up to play with his shirt, not quite tugging him closer. "I'm ... still gettin' over my jumps with telepaths but I think it's sweet that Manuel wants to help her. If you really don't want to, obviously I want my boyfriend to take me. But it's a dance, despite all the hoopla that happens, not the end of the world if you took Esme."

After a moment thinking it over, not wanting to seem too eager, Julian rolled to his side and brushed a rebellious lock of hair away from Angel's face. "You're very generous, Firefly" he said with a sincere smile. Not a beat later, his head darted forward and Julian's lips met Angel's for a long and lingering moment. When it finally broke, he rested his forehead against hers, "Okay, if you're okay with it- I'll ask her. But...who's going to take you?"

Angel looked very amused. "I told Manny that if he were to steal you away for the night of prom - granted, not for himself but that would actually be hysterical - he had to get me a date of my own. On top of whatever favor I'll decide in the future, of course. I'm making him get John to take me. God help him."

"John...that's the older and less handsome pyrokinetic right?" Having only heard Angel talk about her friend John, he wanted to be sure. "I guess that makes some sense," he hoped there wasn't any waver of insecurity in his voice. In truth he'd been looking forward to prom with Angel- but Esme seemed nice enough and there had been that dream a couple nights ago... "Any ideas how I should ask her?"

She poked him in the chest. "John's totally one of my two cranky, and older, mentors," Angel said, trying to reassure him. "Even if I was interested, I'm totally too young for him." She fell silent for a moment, trying to think of a good answer to his question. "Don't make it too romantic - I mean, we're a small school so she's gotta know we're going out. Just say something like we wanted to take friends to the dance. She's got her sisters but she might be a bit lonely since a bunch of us really don't know them that well."

"Hmmm, so you are saying you're interested in him," Julian smirked and tickled Angel's side. After a brief wrestling match and a couple stolen kisses, Angel ended up on top of him, looking down victoriously. "Okay, you win, I wont be making out with Esme on prom night. How about we all go out to dinner before hand? Split a limo and stuff?"

"Honey, prom's held AT the school," Angel giggled, poking at his ribs in return. "John's John so he's totally not going to be into that. Let's say this - why don't you guys do your thing and John and I'll keep it simple? And then in a week, you can pamper me to my hearts content?"

"This is an acceptable arrangement," Julian said with a wicked smile. "But, John had better keep his hands to himself, kay?"
