After burning off the propane, Julian rests up for his next task in the red cross tent. Callie keeps him company.

((OOC: Backdated to Friday because Ryan is an idjit!))

It had been the hardest thing that Julian Keller had tried to date, the giant roman candle that got rid of the dangerous fuel. After the gas was gone, a wave of exhaustion had taken over and he'd nearly collapsed. Several minutes later, sitting in the Red Cross tent with a blanket over his shoulders, Julian was enjoying a cup of water as things around the disaster sight were being wrapped up.

She had watched him struggle to contain the blaze. It had looked, from her point of view, to be a difficult operation. She had been afraid that he would be unable to continue and the flame would engulf him and everyone with him. She hated to admit this, but in her mind she was praying as hard as she could that there wouldn't be a funeral to attend, though she was preparing herself for the worst. So Callie ventured toward him, gripping a bottle of green Gatorade and plopped herself next to Julian.

"Here," she said holding out the open bottle. "This'll help restore your electrolytes. You were working hard out there."

In a daze, Julian took the bottle without realizing it was Callie sitting next to him. "Thanks, it was nothing." He took a deep pull from the bottle, draining it halfway in a few gulps, capping it off with a satisfied "ahhh." Turning his head, he was a little more than surprised to see Callie, "Oh...hey."

She shifted to sit in front of him. It would be easier to talk this way. "You were amazing out there. Do you need anything to eat? A sandwich? I think we have some left still."

"Yeah, that'd be great. So what did they put you to work on with this train wreck?" only after the words came out of his mouth did he realize how appropriate they were to the situation. "No pun intended."

There was a dramatic sigh and an equally dramatic shake of Callie's head. "Julian Julian Julian." She clicked her tongue in disapproval. "That, my friend, is what we like to call being 'an insensitive ass'." Not wanting him to think that she was being completely serious, she pulled him in for a quick hug with a smile.

"It's okay Julian. You've been working hard with your brain. I've mostly been making sure that people got where they need to be and stay hydrated and fed so they didn't pass out on us. I'm not a big hero like you, but I did what was needed."

"I'm no hero, Callie. We're just doing what we can to help keep people from getting hurt, right?" After thinking for a moment, "Besides, who do you think the people around here are going to remember from today? The guy who assisted in the burn off of the spilled fuel, or the pink girl who got them water when they were thirsty?" Another thought crossed his mind, "You know...that field out there is covered in ash. If I remember right, ash is supposed to be really good for new growth...do you think you could...." He let the thought hang in the air.

Callie shook her head once more. "I can't. The police need to do an investigation into what happened and whatnot. You know..."

"Oh." He leaned back in his chair and looked down at the grassy floor for a moment, "How long do you think that may take?" Looking back toward Callie, "I mean, we could come back in a week and do it, maybe?"

"It'll take as long as it takes," she said, quoting the old line she used to hate. But in this case it seemed appropriate and true. "We can't get in the way of the authorities doing their jobs. It'll all work out. Nature has a way of healing herself, it just may take time."

"Pfft," Julian winked, "hippie." He nudged against her to further drive home the point that he was simply joking. "Fine- it was just a thought anyway. How's everyone else doing? Anyone get hurt?"

"Everyone will be fine," she assured him. "Speaking of I need to go make sure of that. I just wanted to check in on you. Let me know if you need anything else."

"Thanks, Callie," he gave her one last hug as she went to stand up. "And I really do mean that." He smiled as she headed out, then went back to recollecting his energy. Nathan had said something about possibly having to move some of the overturned cars and he wanted to be fully charged for that.
