A spot of fluff.
Feb. 11th, 2004 02:32 amShinobi drags Sarah away from giving Marie-Ange tactical advice. Conversation ensues, including the possibility of his sharing a suite with Marie, drunkeness, Jono, and finally, your monthly dose of cuteness.
"You are far, far too distracted," Shinobi muses quietly as he eyes Sarah, and the computer eating up her attention, his brow knitting in thought. This, he decides, simply must be remedied. Leaning his head over her shoulder from behind, he peeks at the screen a moment before turning his head, to give her ear a playful nip. "Bras being used as slingshots aren't all _that_ entertaining, are they?"
Sarah grins as she finishes her comment, clicking on send before tilting her head to rest against his. "Not really, though it was a brilliant idea, if I do say so myself." Another comment comes in, and she turns to check it.
Shinobi can't help rolling his eyes as her attention wanders again, smirking dryly and looping his arms loosely around her shoulders. "Yes, it was rather brilliant. You'll notice I didn't even blush at the suggestion, or you would, if you'd stop reading for more than five seconds, you cold and neglectful woman."
"Cold and neglectful?" She laughs, and types up another comment. "Damn my black heart." It only takes her a few seconds, and then she leans back against him. "You can steal me away now. Or are your feelings too hurt?"
"Depends on if you'd kiss them better or not, I suppose," Shinobi muses, but he leans over to give her a kiss on the cheek despite any thoughts to the contrary, serious or no.
"Of course I would. Somehow I have to prove that I'm not running for 'bad girlfriend of the month'." She smiles, staying right where she is, head resting against him, and hands resting on his arms in front of her. Mmm.. comfortable.
"Eh, I'd probably just forgive you anyway," Shinobi chuckles, tucking his chin over her shoulder comfortably and letting his eyes fall closed. "Wasn't joking when I said I was rather attached to having you 'round, after all."
She turns to kiss his cheek, watching him with the faintest bit of amusement in her expression. "Good. This whole stable relationship thing's kinda nice."
"Isn't it though?" He smiles quirkily, giving her shoulders a warm snug. "I'm still tempted to teach you to tango, but I think you made a face when I suggested it the first time.. it's a little fuzzy."
"Yeah. I did. More of a 'what the fuck have I gotten myself into, give me more alcohol' type look," she adds with a grin, "It'd probably amuse you to no end if you remembered it."
"Probably," Shinobi agrees, making a thoughtful noise. "Alas. I'll just have to try and convince you that learning it wouldn't be so bad another time." Grinning, he lifts his head just long enough to give Sarah a peck on the shoulder. "Next time you're smashed, maybe."
She laughs, and gives him a wry look. "Luckily, you'll always be smashed long before I am."
"I wasn't the first time," he points out, smiling innocently and dropping an arm so he can lightly poke her in the side. "Things turned out rather well then, as I recall."
"It doesn't count if you weren't drinking," she says, turning to make a face at him, and squirm away from the offending finger. "And besides. You were the one telling us we _had_ to do Saturday night again sometime."
With a pout, he loosens the arm remaining around her shoulders so she can squirm away from the poking finger. "Of course, I was wasted at the time.. but it was pretty fun. Except for the hangover." He makes a face.
Sarah stands up and stretches, keeping a close eye on Shinobi in case she needed to dodge another poking finger. "I should have reminded you to drink some water before we went to bed. Most of the time I forget, cause I don't have to worry about it."
Dropping his arms back to his sides, Shinobi shrugs a shoulder, grinning and idly peering up towards the ceiling. "Well, I know for future reference now, which is what matters, I suppose."
"If you're ever sober enough to remember." She smiles, and rests her head against his chest, curling her hand in his. My, somebody's in a cuddly mood this evening. "It may also help if you aren't prepared to jump me the moment we reach the basement stairs," she adds.
There's nothing wrong with feeling cuddly in Shinobi's mind, nosir. He smiles and tilts his head forward to rest his face against Sarah's hair, making an amused noise as his free arm winds itself around her waist. "I'll work on the sober part, but I can do little about your sex appeal, you know. But I'll try."
Sarah thinks for a moment, and shrugs. "I'll, uh, try to be less sexy?" she starts, helpfully, "Where do I start?"
"Impossible," Shinobi replies, shaking his head and sighing heavily. "I'll simply have to endure. This 'having a hot girlfriend' thing is awful exhausting."
Sarah laughs, giving him an affectionate kiss and bringing her free hand up to rest on his chest. "It must be horrible," she deadpans.
"It has its ups and downs," Shinobi replies innocently, once he's been freed from the kiss. "Mmm.. this is no good. The urge to pounce is rising. I should probably distract myself with something, huh?"
"You've got other plans?" she asks curiously, moving the slightest bit closer to him. "I mean, you did pull me away from the computer..."
"Well.. not exactly," Shinobi admits, thoughtfully tilting his head to the side and really, not minding losing more of his personal space in the slighest. "I do still have that question for you, and knowing us, I'll forget all about it once coherent thought's come back.."
Sarah shrugs, but doesn't bother to move away any. "Go for it."
He's not bothering to move away any, either. "Well, the Powers That Be seem to have officially declared me staff, judging from my journal's access," Shinobi shrugs, lifting a hand to absentmindedly fuss with some of Sarah's hair. "So in the interests of a clearly-defined line between staff and student, I'm trying to decide if I should make noises about giving Angelo our room to himself and netting a suite. Marie said something about having room in hers, and that's a much more attractive notion than bunking with Piotr, but I don't want to sign on for anything without the expressed consent of.. well.. you." He shrugs, grinning. "What d'you think?"
"You're gonna room with Em?" She lets the thought sink in for awhile, and shrugs again. "Fine by me." Looking up at him, her expression still thoughtful. "So what happens when someone makes a fuss about staff dating students?"
"Only if the old folks don't have conniptions at the thought, and if there isn't an empty suite I can snatch up," Shinobi nods, eyeing Sarah thoughtfully a moment before leaning down to give her a kiss on the forehead. "And when that happens, I tell them to shove it."
Sarah smiles, because she knows he will. In fact, he may possibly use those exact words. "I doubt they'd care all that much, especially since Jono and I have been rooming together for months now."
"And Marie said something about beating the first person to eye us scandalously into this century with a trout, yes," Shinobi confirms, grinning a touch. "I'd be lying if I said you and Jono rooming down here didn't occasionally bug me a little, but I think it's more the fact that I don't really like him all that much more than the co-ed thing." He shrugs helplessly, with a tired smile. "I'll probably be fine with him once he and Paige stop trying to out-snark each other." Like that'll ever happen.
She gives him a slightly concerned look, and decides this is probably the best time to clear some things up. "Jono and I are close. Well, I guess as close as monsters like us can be." She plays idly with a button on his shirt as she talks. "We got here within hours of each other, both expecting to get locked in the basement with a sign that said 'beware of monsters'. I guess... I guess you just have to know where he's coming from."
He blinks once at the concerned look, the question of why recieving it surprised him quickly pushed to the back of his mind while he listens attentively, glancing down with a little smile as his shirt's played with. "I still don't think you're a monster," he says finally, bringing up a hand to lightly tap Sarah on the nose. "And neither is he."
Sarah nods. "Yes, I know," she says quietly.
"Still don't believe me, though," Shinobi sighs, smiling faintly and curling his arm back around her waist. "Stubborn."
"That's me," she says, still quiet. She rests her head against his chest again with a sigh. "It's going to take more than a few crazy people to erase the mindset I've had since I was eight."
"I'm happy being with you, whether I can convince you of this one little thing or not." He considers something for a moment before lightly pillowing his head atop hers, closing his eyes and steeling himself for whatever reaction might come. "Call me crazy, but... rather love you, you know. Monster in the basement or not." He's half expecting to be kicked out on his ear now - that much is obvious from the way he's tensed up and nervously holding his breath.
I takes Sarah a second to process what Shinobi's said, and she lets it sink in a moment before even beginning to try to reply. "I--thank you." Slowly, she pulls away so she can look at him, a small smile on her face masking the giddiness that's threatening to bubble over. She can count the number of people who have said they loved her on one hand. On three fingers actually.
Well, that's.. better than he'd been expecting. He's still here, after all. "Um. My pleasure," Shinobi replies awkwardly, grinning nervously and doing his very, very best not to start fidgetting.
Sarah laughs, verging on the nervous and giggly. She kisses him again, bony hands cupping his face. "You're one of the best things to ever happen to me, you know."
That's _much_ better. Shoulders sagging in relief, Shinobi's face splits into a massive grin, leaning into the kiss and tightly hugging Sarah around the waist. "I could say the same thing about you, you know."
"So you say." She smiles, head gone back to his chest and fingers playing again with the buttons on his shirt. It's soothing. Soothing is good. Giggling is not.
There will be no giggling from him, either, because it would be very, very immasculating. "Mmhm, I do say," he confirms, smiling and returning his chin to its place comfortably pillowed against the top of Sarah's head.
She realizes then, standing there with him, just how precious he really is to her. She would do _anything_ for him. Not just the silly 'Sarah gives in to everything' stuff, but the Morlock stuff. The family stuff. She sighs happily. "I love you."
Now it's his turn to fall quiet as the words sink in, though for him, it seems to take a little bit longer before he can fully grasp the meaning. He could count the number of people who'd told him they loved him - and meant it - on one finger. Well.. two, now. Even more immasculating than giggling would have been, Shinobi is quick to blink back the tears suddenly in his eyes, tilting his head so that he can rest his face in Sarah's hair to try and hide it before she can notice. "I know," he murmurs quietly, hugging her tightly to himself, suddenly feeling rather afraid to let go. "...thank you."
