Lil gives Jean-Paul his gift.

"Here," Lil said, shoving a brightly colored and messily wrapped gift at the speedster with one hand as she continued to hold her margarita in the other. She was a woman of little talent when it came to presents and parties but she could make a mean drink. "Open it now or later, doesn't matter to me." The blonde was tempted to add a warning that if he made any sort of fuss, she was going to jab a little paper umbrella through his tongue but as it was his birthday, the giantess let it go.

Jean-Paul handed his own drink off to Jake and took the parcel in hand.

"But if I open it later, that gives me less time to plot revenge," he countered, and at once pitted himself against the protective layers of wrapping paper and scotch tape. Underneath was an early edition of Le Petit Prince with Saint-Exupéry's original illustrations intact. The speedster really couldn't hide his pleased expression and made a quiet exclamation of delight as he leafed through the pages. "Lil...!"

"Don't make me have to ruin it by dropping tequila and neon green slush all over the cover," she told him in a stern voice, though the sparkle in her eyes belayed her pride and pleasure in selecting a gift he seemed to genuinely enjoy. "When I couldn't remember what kinda drink you like to brood to, I had to come up with something else."

Jean-Paul tucked the book behind his back and took a quick step away. "Oh, yes...you may bare your teeth now, mam'selle, but sooner or later you will let your guard down and then I shall be affectionate and appreciative. It is inevitable."

Lil arched one eyebrow at his challenge. "I don't think so, Speedy. Unless you choose to show your appreciation by cooking me a gourmet four course meal or something, then it's acceptable," she declared and took another sip of her margarita. "It's just a book, after all."

"I will figure out a way. We Beaubiers are devious, you know." Jean-Paul let himself be lead away...and zipped in from the opposite direction moments later to plant a kiss on Lil's cheek and a grinning "Merci." The book, it seemed, had been left in other hands in the meantime.

"De rien," came the soft reply, her smile not at all offended. "I'm glad you like it. Kinda felt stupid getting you a kid's book but..." One shoulder rose and fell dismissively. "I couldn't come up with anything else." In truth, it had been one of Lil's favorites as a child and sometimes her dreams brought back the French in her mother's soft voice.

"Good books remain good books, no matter how old you get. And this one is only a children's book on the surface anyway."

"Haven't read it in years so I couldn't really correct you if you were wrong," Lil chuckled and took another sip of her drink. "Glad I made the right choice though. Happy Birthday, Jean-Paul."
