Angel takes her time getting ready, looking forward to a no-stress dance.

Angel mused at herself in the mirror as she finished putting on her make up - she wasn't running around like a mad woman this year to get ready to prom. If Julian had been taking her, she probably would have been but well. It was John. Not only had he been working with her on her control for years, but they routinely set stuff on fire and hung out just because. She didn't have to impress him or try to keep his eye or anything else that she might have worried about with her boyfriend.

She could relax and be Angel and try not to set anything on fire.

"I don't get it. Why didn't he ask you to the prom?" John had made himself comfy on her bed. His shirt was a crumpled mess and his tie was hanging loose from his neck. His jacket however had been laid across the sofa and looked like it had actually been ironed. He'd claimed earlier that it was all he really needed to make a good impression.

"Because I gave him permission to not ask me to prom," she responded over her shoulder to him. "It's kind of confusing but Esme is apparently a bit lonely and had no one to take her to the prom. I, on the other hand, can apparently convince at least you - besides my boyfriend - into taking me. It's one night and it meant you didn't, you know, have crazy Angel running around, trying to get ready and setting the curtains on fire." She sighed. "Again."

"Esme who?" John snickered and slipped a cigarette between his lips. "Don't mind if I light up, right?" He flipped his lighter open and lit the end of the stick, not bothering to wait for her permission. He'd already been courteous enough to ask first. That had to count for something.

"One of the Stepford sisters - the blond telepaths that all act in a group." Angel rolled her eyes at him but didn't argue. Getting John to stop smoking was about as hard as it was for someone to get her to stop eating. "Just keep it on my side of the room if you can. Aaaand - ta da!" She spun away from the mirror, enjoying how the dress swooshed around her legs. "I clean up pretty nice, if I do say so myself. Which I just did, so I do."

He lifted a finger and made a circle to instruct her to turn around again before he gave her the nod of approval. "You look hot." He blew the smoke out to his right, which was obviously not Angel's side of the room, doing so on purpose before he stood up and smoothed a hand across his crisp white shirt. "And how do I look?" He smirked and slipped his jacket on. "Are you sure you're not going to get upset about your boyfriend taking someone else to the prom? Last thing I want is you crying on my shoulder. You know I'm not built for pathetic human emotions."

"Hah, you only wish," Angel laughed, grabbing his arm so she could tug him towards the door. "No, I doubt there'll be any kind of crying. Julian's a good guy for all that he's, well, a guy." She patted him on the hand. "And yes, you look very dashing in your suit and your pants - you certainly showed that iron a thing or two, didn't you?"
