Catseye's plan comes to fruition and Yvette gets her date for prom.

Well, she was ready.

Yvette looked at herself in the mirror one last time. She had to admit, Lil and Jean-Paul had done a very good job. She hardly recognised herself. Her hair was swept up and caught in a metal net (care of Tommy's powers), and the dress was modest yet attractive, the cream colour and the necklace Tommy had given her years ago when she'd arrived highlighted against the black body suit. She still had misgivings about going alone - for some reason the older she got, the harder it was, standing apart and watching from the sidelines - but she oughtn't waste the good work people had put into getting her ready.

A light knock sounded on the door to Yvette's suite. Kevin readjusted his tie as he waited, corsage in hand. He had never managed to find out what Yvette's favorite flowers were, but somehow Clarice had found out what color Yvette's dress would be. The florist had given him that look people got when someone was adorable in their complete and utter lack of knowledge about something. He'd been easy to convince of the cream lily and its perfection for the occassion. Hopefully Catseye wasn't wrong about this being a good idea. Otherwise no tuna for her.

"Come in!" Yvette called. It was probably Catseye, come to walk down with her. The cat girl had definitely taken Yvette under her wing with the whole prom thing. She fussed with her hair just a little bit more - the long curls hanging either side of her face were trying to straighten out under the onslaught of nerves and she wound a tough strand around her finger to make it do what she wanted.

The door opened slowly and Kevin peered in, eyes darting about to see if Yvette was in sight. When he saw no one he entered and walked as silently as he could, which meant keeping the heels of the dress shoes he wore from hitting the ground as the sound may have given him away. Figuring on Yvette being in her room, he headed for the open door.

She didn't seem to notice him standing there at first and so Kevin just watched as she did something to her hair that involved pulling a finger free from its grasp. With a small smile on his face he cleared his throat. "Lookit you, puttin' everyone to shame with how beautiful you look. Ah'm not sure Ah'm fit to have ya on my arm, but Ah heard you needed an escort so," a shoulder raised as his head tilted to the side in a what-can-ya-do gesture.

In the mirror, Yvette's eyes grew wide, their glow increasing to a brilliant flare of neon-blue. "Kevin!" she exclaimed, spinning around to face him, her dress flaring out. "Did Catseye bring you here after all?"

Kevin grinned at her. "Nah, Clarice brought me, technically. But it's Catseye's doin', yeah. She said all the boys were stupid and none of 'em were taking you to prom so I should be less stupid and take you. 'Cause pretty girls should always have dates." The words managed to not be either flirtatious nor fraternal but expressed more as a matter of fact. He'd taken liberty with Catseye's words, but he didn't think she'd mind.

If she could blush, she would have been. As it was, her eyes glowed even brighter. "I would say that she should not have done this thing, but that would not be the truth. It is very good to be seeing you, Kevin, and I am proud to be having you as my date." She smiled. "The other girls do not have someone who is so handsome in the suit."

"Yeah, and who knew Ah'd clean up so well," he joked. He approached her with the corsage and an expression of utter seriousness. "So the lady at the flower shop told me Ah had to pin this on you and Ah was a terrible man if Ah made you pin it on yourself. She even made me practice, probably 'cause Ah looked lost the whole time Ah was in there. Did you know they made so many types of flowers?" He was only mostly kidding there. "But you should probably be really still so Ah don't stick you with the pin."

They both knew a pin stick wouldn't hurt her, but that wasn't the real reason. Yvette held still, her head tilted up so he wouldn't brush her chin accidentally. She had to work to not giggle at the thought of Kevin all at sea in a flower shop - he was adorable when he was out of his depth. "They are the very pretty flowers," she told him as he worked the pin. "Was Catseye telling you the colour of my dress?"

"Clarice, actually. She was my undercover ninja." His words were slow and measured as he concentrated on pinning the corsage onto Yvette. The pin prick wouldn't hurt her, but it was still poor manners to go and stick your date. Once the flowers were properly affixed he stepped back and grinned. The lilies actually looked good. Kevin was impressed with himself, and by himself he meant the lady at the flower shop. "Now you look perfect," he told Yvette as he held out a hand to her. "C'mon, we oughta go show you off."

She took his hand with another smile. "We shall be the very pretty couple, yes?" she affirmed. There was a difference in the way she stood, more upright than most had seen her, the loose curls either side of her face hanging more naturally than her hair usually did. "Let us go and have the good time."

Kevin gave her his best bow and even kissed her gloved hand. "Everyone'll be jealous." Yvette was smiling so Kevin considered this to be a definite win in his column. Rather, it was a win in Catseye's column, really.
