If you're getting this, somebody thinks you could do with a weekend away from the mansion. Here's an invitation to do just that.
This Saturday, Marie and I are going to get up Godawful early in the morning, pile some people into a van (or two) to head out to Belfayre, to take a day to make idiots out of ourselves pretending we know how to snowboard. If you want to come, you're more than welcome to - it's all on me. It's going to be an overnight trip, with the only real requirement being that we're back by lunchtime on Sunday.
Technically, we aren't required to bring any teachers with us, but I'm inviting a few anyway so that they have the option to unwind, too. So there.
So, if a weekend where the only requirements are "no angsting" and "no arguing" appeals, just let us know. Those requirements will be strictly upheld, up to and including witholding all hot cocoa and marshmallows until such a time as the angsting or arguing ceases. Cruel, I know, but hopefully effective.
(Angelo? Leaving Paige's invite to you. Just let Marie and I know.)

In a rather felicitous coincidence, I happen already to know how to snowboard, and now that the inestimable Dr. Bartlet has returned from her leave, allowing me the occasional extra-mansion excursion (or eXtra-mansion, as the case may be), I would be only too happy to lend my presence--in, I devoutly hope, a solely unofficial capacity--to the occasion.
However, I fear I must risk Dante's leaden robe by raising one objection to the proposed guest list. Despite Miss Sefton's yeoman service, I cannot in good conscience declare Angelo recovered well enough for an overnight trip, at least not without restrictions severe enough to surely defeat both his and my own enjoyment of the weekend. Lorna, if she chooses to go, will have to be careful enough, but Angelo's injuries are simply too recent.
Angelo, I realize this must come as a disappointment to you, and so I will offer what recompense I may: if you heed Dr. Bartlet's injunctions religiously, I see no reason why you should not enjoy a careful day trip on Saturday--perhaps, in light of the occasion, with the lovely Miss Guthrie?--and upon my honor as a McCoy, before this ski season ends I will sponsor another weekend trip at such time as your condition allows you to enjoy it. May I suffer a debilitating course of the mange if I fail to uphold this vow.

No problem, Doc. I understand entirely. While I am rather disappointed that Angelo can't come for the entire trip, I'm sure the sight of you on a snowboard will make up for it at least in part, image inducer notwithstanding. Can I take pictures? Tell me I can take pictures.

My boy, I would be disappointed were there not pictures. I fear the residents of the mansion are largely unaware of my prowess on the ivory incline, and it behooves us not to leave them in such an appalling state of ignorance.

Then I shall be sure to pack my digital camera and several memory sticks. At least one will have your name and ruggedly handsome mug all over it. I'm going to be terribly tempted to crank out a screensaver with these, I can tell already.

No worries, Doc. I think I'll go but really, forget snowboarding--just consider that it's me and snow. I'll stay inside and keep the hot chocolate and cider ready so that the crazy people who think strapping a board to their feet and falling down is fun can warm up afterwards.

(P.S. for the organizers: Thanks you two. I don't care what anybody says, you're good people.)

Ah, yes; had I taken that moment to consider, I would have realized my worries for you were misplaced. I shall, however, have a difficult time resisting the urge to dribble snow down the back of your neck in Alison's stead. Crazy people indeed. ;)
A hearty second accolade to Shinobi and Marie for this excellent notion.

Don't make me deny you baked goods, Doc.

Well, I've hummed and hawed (that's 'hawed', Mr Allerdyce; don't look for humor in your fringe attempts at literacy), and I've decided I'll come along. I'm rather a sight on the piste, and if my favourite fur coat is going to be there, then I simply can't refuse. Hank and I simply never get to play anymore.

Looks like I'm not going after all, huh? But maybe I'll see you guys sometime Saturday, if I can get somebody to drive me. Just for awhile.
And... could one of you ask Paige along all the same? I still think she needs a break from this place, and it'd look weird if I ask her when I'm not going. Might come across like I'm trying to get rid of her, or something.
Thanks,
Angelo

Hiding now. Quite possibly from both of you. :D

Don't worry, Sarah. I won't make you actually go up the mountain(s) if you don't want to. I'm probably going to wind up just enjoying the resort, with the occasional trip outside to get photographic evidence of Doctor McCoy showing us all up, anyway, so you can keep me company at ground level.
And then, we can do dinner. And chocolate. And it'll be nice, and relaxing. Promise.

Hmm. I'm not really a huge fan of cold and snow, you know... ;)
I AM SO THERE. You'll have to drag me off the slopes to eat and sleep, I swear. Too long since I've been skiing. Although I've never tried boarding, so this may be entertaining for all.
And like some of the others have said, thanks for arranging this, Shinobi and Em. It's a fantastic idea.
