Lil and Adrienne
Jun. 4th, 2009 08:04 pmLil visits Adri bearing secondhand gifts and the two discuss men (as usual...)
She wasn't quite sure why she was doing it - and would blame the jetlag if anyone asked - but with a bottle of palinka in hand, Lil made her way to Adrienne' suite with one thing on her mind: how the apology went. Being out of the country for the weekend had meant a severe disconnect with the school's gossip so why not go right to the source? Especially when it involved two people she considered friends.
With her free fist, Lil rapped her knuckles in a short, little rhythm against the psychometrist's door. "Adrienne? You in there?"
"Not at the moment," Adrienne called out, approaching from behind Lil, having just returned from the city. "Boo."
"Boo yourself," she returned before offering the bottle to the brunette. "Here. Brandy from Hungary. Drink it, give it away, whatever you want." One shoulder rose and fell in her usual, casual shrug of indifference.
"Why were you in Hungary, and why are you giving me brandy?" Adrienne asked suspiciously. Were they friends now? When had that happened?
"Hadda stop a bunch of terrorist and defend a school fulla psis," Lil said plainly with another shrug. "Got sent home with a coupla bottles of this stuff and after drinking a whole one myself a coupla nights ago, I really don't want them in my suite." At least, not all of them. One bottle was still stashed in the kitchen for herself.
"Oh, so you're foisting your evil alcohol off on me because you don't want it anymore? Well, that's sweet of you," Adrienne muttered with a roll of her eyes. "Doesn't mean I won't take it, of course. You want to come in and have a glass at least? Shoot some things on the Wii?"
Lil snorted. "It's good stuff but when you over do it, you kinda don't wanna see or smell the stuff for a little while and I didn't wanna offend the gift giver by refusing. And sure. Shooting things sounds good." Along with a little time to chat.
Adrienne opened the door and gestured to Lil to enter, allowing the blonde to settle herself while she went to the kitchenette and poured out the brandy. "So, why are you really here?" she asked, still skeptical of Lil's presence. Lil didn't seem like the type to bring back souvenirs from her missions, and go off giving them away, even if she was merely foisting off a gift on Adrienne that she didn't want herself.
Green eyes flickered from the other woman's face to the bottle and back after taking a seat nearby. "Other than to give you Hungarian brandy and shoot Nazis with toy guns? No other reason," Lil said, all the while knowing what a horrible liar she was and that she wasn't fooling Adrienne with her nonchalance. She blew a puff of hair out of her eyes then sigh. "I didn't see you at prom and I was wondering if you got around to talking to Gar yet."
The other pair of green eyes narrowed darkly. “I take it you haven’t spoken to him? He hasn’t confided to you about what a horrible bitch I am?” She hadn’t really assumed that Garrison would tell Lil, or anyone, something like that, but his behaviour the night of their confrontation had shocked her into admitting that she really had no idea what he would do when pushed.
The giantess' mouth opened slightly then snapped shut. Fuck. Well, that hadn't gone the way she expected it to. She bit back a smart remark about assuming screwing him crazy didn't happen and instead offered the other woman a small frown of apology. "Haven't seen him since Harry's day I saw you in the gym," Lil admitted. "And I ain't his confidante. He barely puts up with me, so no, I hadn't heard anything about your supposed horrible bitchiness."
“Well, now there’s one more person he barely puts up with living here,” Adrienne pointed out wryly. “I did everything I was supposed to do,” she pointed out, sounding as if it had been a great injustice. “He even said he accepted my apology. Of course, that was right before he told me it didn’t matter, and right after he basically called me a whore,” she added with a laugh.
"He what?" Lil asked in honest disbelief. Garrison... call Adrienne a whore? It didn't make sense. Yes, the man had plenty to say to Lil but it was (usually) just in jest. But in anger? "I... I can't believe he said that!" The blonde's eyes sparked with anger and she shook her head before frowning at Adrienne once more. "He's such an ass, I swear, but I never thought he could be that much of one. Did you hit him for it?"
Adrienne's expression darkened even more and she gave an involuntary jerk, nearly dumping the brandy glasses as she held one out to Lil. "I don't hit people. Ever." She sat on the coffee table rather than on the couch next to Lil. "He didn't say 'that' exactly. Just mentioned me picking up random men on a weekly basis. I don't really want to talk about this." Before the confrontation, Adrienne would never have believed Lil saying Garrison was an ass, and even now, she couldn't bring herself to join in agreeing with Lil. "Who gave you Hungarian brandy? A grateful mutant school?"
The blonde woman accepted the glass but continued to scowl. "Grateful mutant whose life I saved," Lil corrected. There wasn't a story to tell there; nothing had happened between herself and Peter Lakatos that would make for good gossip beyond her sleeping at his place because she wanted to keep an eye on the injured man - and because she'd been fairly drunk. "Since you didn't hit him, you want me to?"
"No. No one gets hit because of me. No one hits anyone for me. No hitting, period." Adrienne stated emphatically. She tried desperately to change the subject again. "Grateful man gave you brandy? How badly hurt was he? Too badly to give you a proper thanking?" she asked, a note of teasing in her voice.
"Concussed from an explosion and shot in the shoulder, then pumped full of pain killers. I was bitch slapped in the brain and then shot multiple times, including once in the head which still kinda aches but sure as hell beats the alternative," Lil said, raising her glass in a toast while leaving the brunette to gather her answer from the information given.
Adrienne downed her drink without toasting back. "So no sex for you then?"
"Depends on who you ask," Lil replied, a touch of a smirk coming to her lips as she sipped the brandy. She knew very well that gossip had filled the plane on the way home from Budapest about how the Canadian hadn't slept in her assigned room their last night in the city.
"What do you mean, depends who you ask? Sex is sex. Either you did or you didn't." She didn't really comprehend that Lil meant ask about Lil's whereabouts, instead thinking the blonde meant that what she had done might not be classified as sex. "Did he have super strength or a healing power?" Adrienne inquired with a smirk.
"No and no," she said with her own grin and a shake of her head. "Precog with military background named Peter Lakatos. He was here a coupla days before we headed out; maybe you saw him around," Lil added with a shrug, still very much avoiding answering the question. Almost as much as Adrienne was avoiding talking about Gar.
Having brought the brandy bottle with her, Adrienne poured herself and Lil second glasses before turning on the tv and setting up the wii. "I haven't been much inclined to be out a lot lately," she admitted. It was hard admitting that she was letting Garrison get to her, that she was hiding at the office much of the time.
Again Lil's shoulder rose and fell as she sipped her drink, careful not to spill or cringe. The gift from Peter was delightful but the whole bottle in one night had left her a bit put off. "Didn't know if you saw him wandering around or not. That's all. If you'd been at the prom you woulda seen him." It had been a fun hour - too short but certainly fun.
“Yes well, I avoided prom like the plague. Thought instead of going I would take in the Sox versus Jays game at Harry’s with Kane. That seemed a much more pleasant prospect than trying to control a bunch of horny teens-and-not-even-teens. How wrong I was.” She’d much rather have endured prom than the torment Garrison had given her, and the irony of that showed on her face.
And they were back to Garrison again. Lil hid the smirk behind her glass, careful not to let Adrienne see it. Despite how much the brunette claimed not to want to talk about what happened, it seemed her mouth had other ideas. "It was a fun time," she said at length after deciding how best to continue the conversation. "Kids were good, music was okay. Feel bad I broke my promise to you about being at Harry's, though."
Pouring a third glass and picking up a Wii controller, Adrienne shrugged. “It’s no matter. I picked the night, I knew you wouldn’t be there. I’ve dealt with assholes before and will most likely continue to do so, since most men seem to be some variety of asshole or other. I can take care of myself.”
Following suit, Lil picked up the controller after setting aside her remaining brandy. "Seems like you can, though you definitely have my agreement on the men being assholes part," the younger woman said with a soft smile. "That's why we're gonna shoot a couple, eh?"
“If only I was allowed to carry a real weapon,” Adrienne sighed theatrically.
She wasn't quite sure why she was doing it - and would blame the jetlag if anyone asked - but with a bottle of palinka in hand, Lil made her way to Adrienne' suite with one thing on her mind: how the apology went.
