Another day, another visitor - or two.

Angelo hadn't, really, expected to see this day for a long time - though he'd never have told Yvette that - and he'd never have wanted it to be like this. But since it was, the thing to do was make the most of it, and that meant giving Yvette memories to hold on to when things were back to normal.
He had the end of a leash in his hand when he knocked on the suite door.

“Come in!” came the reply, in Yvette’s unmistakeable accent, and when Angelo did so, she was tucked up on the couch, sipping from a plastic tumbler of water. “Hello, Mr. Angelo!” she chirped when she saw him – she felt like a princess with all these visitors and Kevin acting as her doorman. Although at the moment he was downstairs, arranging lunch. Then she noticed the leash, and tried to lean over to peer around him, wincing a little as the stitches pulled. “Ouch.”

"Careful!" Angelo said automatically, then stepped into the room, a brown muzzle pushing into sight around his legs as he did so. "How're you feelin'?"

“Better,” she said, waving away the moment of pain. “Every so often I am forgetting the stitches. Except when they are itching.” She said the last word blackly, conveying her utter disapproval of this forgotten concept. “Did you bring the friend to visit also?” she asked, nodding at the brown shape trying to get around her master’s legs.

"That'll stop soon enough", Angelo assured her. "Means it's healin', too. Yeah, I did - she missed you." Finally, he moved one leg so the dog could pass, but kept a tight hold on the leash to stem any over-enthusiasm.

“Hello, Joyita!” Yvette broke into a wide smile and set her water aside. “Please, may I be patting her? I will be careful, I promise.”

"Course you can", he said with a smile in return. "I'm gonna hold onto her, though. She doesn't understand she can't be jumpin' up at you right now."

"She will be good, will you not, Joyita?" Yvette beckoned the dog and held out a hand to be sniffed and licked. She giggled. "It tickles!"

"Yeah, it does." Angelo grinned to see her so happy about it. "An' she'll settle down, I just didn't want her to get too excited when she saw you." He loosened his grip a little.

As Joyita came closer, Yvette move her hand up to gingerly pat her sleek head, moving her hand down to dig her fingers into the thick fur of her neck. Her eyes half-closed as she focussed on the sensation of warm fur against her hand, the movement of muscle under the dog’s coat, burning it into her memory. ~Remember this,~ she told herself almost fiercely. ~You don’t know when you will have it again, if ever.~

Angelo watched them carefully, most of his attention on Joyita but some on how Yvette was reacting to it all. The dog butted her head affectionately against the girl, tail wagging furiously.

The movement caused her to open her eyes again, and she blinked rapidly a few times to hold back a sudden urge to cry at the overwhelming emotion of it all. She smiled down at the dog, ruffling her head. “You are liking the attention, are you not, Joyita?” she asked, ignoring the slight wobble in her voice, before looking up at Angelo. “Thank you, for bringing her. I am liking the animals, but it is hard normally.”

"She always likes attention", he said warmly, letting the emotion go unmentioned. "An' that's why I brought her along. Let you get all the chances in while you can. I'll even lend her to you for awhile if you want."

“Later, when I am allowed to be exercising, I can be walking her, yes?” Light exercise was part of her recovery and she was looking forward to being able to move around again. “Perhaps you could be coming too, if you are not too busy with the Elpis work? I know Mr. Dayspring is very busy again.”

"Yeah, you can walk her, an' I can make time to come. Maybe you could keep each other company while I'm workin'?"

"That is the very good plan." A grin crossed her face and she looked up at Angelo almost mischievously. "We could be making sure that you are eating, too, by bringing you the picnic?"

"Still with the feedin' me, huh?" he said with a laugh. "I'm gonna take that as a sign you're feelin' better."

"It is being what I do," she replied with a nod. "Although I am thinking Joyita will have to be carrying the basket for me."
