Crystal and Nathan - Thanks
Jul. 17th, 2009 04:17 pmCrystal goes to find Nathan to thank him.
Once again, Crystal was walking somewhere, when she'd rather fly to that location. While she could "fly" in a way, using Amara's powers, she was not at all adept in the use of those abilities, and walking was much safer. The young woman walked towards the boathouse, looking for Nathan, and caught sight of him sitting on the dock.
"A good place to sit and think, or just relax, yes?" she asked as she approached him, noticing the bottle in his hand when she was closer.
"Hey, Crystal," Nathan said amiably, taking a sip from the bottle of beer before he went on. "Relaxing is kind of the idea, yes."
"Needing to relax is something that goes on quite often around here," Crystal mused, sitting next to Nathan. "Part and parcel of the work people do, and it happens even when it is unexpected. I spent many hours this week concentrating on keeping myself in a relaxed state of mind."
"I can imagine. How are you doing?"
Crystal laughed. "I am doing as well as I can be given the current situation, I believe," she replied. "We do not yet know what happened, who or what is responsible for the change, but I know that it is being looked into both here and on Muir, and I trust in the doctor's capabilities. There is no point in stressing for no reason now, is there? Less than a week has passed since the new, altered manifestations. I would like to be able to go back to wearing my own clothes instead of this uniform, and I suppose that I could do that even now, but I do not wish to have Amara's abilities flare up unbidden and find myself not wearing any clothes at all. I do not believe that this would go over very well."
"I imagine Forge wouldn't complain," Nathan said, a teasing edge to his voice.
Crystal's eyes widened a bit. "Well, I, no, but maybe he would, actually," she said, thinking of Forge's reaction and response when she changed in the medlab. "There is a proper place for that sort of thing, and I do not believe that the middle of a hallway, in full view of students, is it. Besides, perhaps he does not want other people to see me like that. Also, it is not proper, of course. And Forge likes to see me wearing this uniform, actually, although perhaps he may tire of it should I continue to wear it."
One of these days she was going to relax and discover the budding shoots of an Americanized sense of humor. "Of course," Nathan said, gravely.
Crystal's head turned to look out at the water, her gaze resting there. "Thank you for saving me," she said quietly. "I do not like to think about what would have happened had you not been there to keep me from hitting the ground."
"It was good timing on my part," Nathan said quietly, "and I'm glad I was there. I just hope this situation's resolved soon, and everyone has their own rightful mutations back."
"As do I," Crystal agreed, looking back at Nathan. "I wonder sometimes, if there is a reason for us to have the mutations we do, if one mutant is somehow better prepared to handle a certain power than another mutant. I have always viewed my abilities as part of myself, and now they are painfully and noticeably absent, and I very much want to have them back."
"There are a number of great medical minds working on the problem." Nathan took another sip of his beer. "I have faith."
Crystal nodded. "I have faith in them, too."
