A meeting by the pool prompts a discussion about BedGames.

Monet was lying in a patch of sun next to the pool, a couple of folders worth of reading from Elpis piled next to her, with shade slowly creeping up her left leg. She was lazily debating the merits of either wriggling slightly over that way and out of the shade again or admitting defeat at her attempt to work outside.

Monet's sun was blocked even more by a tall purple-haired figure, although she only obstructed the light for a moment before flopping down beside the other female. "Is Monet sleeping or can Catseye keep company?" she asked curiously, turning towards the files. "Ooooo! What is Monet reading?"

She sat up and smiled at Catseye. "Heya. It's uh... about three hundred pages of Algerian government documents and it's all in bloody French. Distract me. Please."

"Only if Monet distracts Catseye too!" the catgirl bargained, making a face. "Catseye would rather read Algerian government documents in French than think about boys. Why are boys sillystupid?

"You can't read these because you don't read French. Duh." Monet reached over to one side and tugged a tshirt on over her bikini top. "What's going on with the boys, kitty?"

Catseye resisted the urge to grab Monet's bikini strings as she reached to pull on her tshirt. "Catseye maybe will read French one day," she said with a smile. "Mister Beaubier reads French. Maybe after Catseye learns how to read all words in English without the dictionary he will help Catseye with French." She went over to the pool and sat on the edge, kicking her feet to make splashes in the water. "Catseye kissed Nick because Catseye saw in a movie that Kat kissed the Patrick boy because he said she was special and Nick said Catseye was special so Catseye thought that meant she should kiss Nick but then Nick went away even though Nick said it was okay that Catseye kissed him but now Catseye can never find him, and Johnny said kissing is not just to say thanks but it is what you do when you want to be a couple with someone and Catseye did not know! So Catseye wants to tell Nick she did not know but Catseye thinks he is hiding!"

She blinked at the speech and took a moment to parse the Catseye-speak. She'd kissed... Nick? Was he a student? And then Johnny butted in? Maybe? Monet settled for asking, "You kissed Nick, yeah? He's a student here? Ah... how do you feel about having kissed him? He didn't sort of... make you do it, did he?"

"Nonono, he did not make Catseye," she assured Monet quickly, knowing that making people kiss was a badthing. "Catseye wanted to do it. Because Nick said Catseye was special. It felt funny. Catseye never kissed anyone on the lips before. But Catseye did not know that kissing was only supposed to be for someone that Catseye was... attracted to." She frowned over the word. It still sounded odd. "Attracted means wanting someone to play bedgames with, yes?"

Argh. "Funny bad or funny good? And uh... sometimes." Monet frowned, trying to think of a way to explain it. She was explaining sex to a cat, for fuck's sake and a student and oh god, this was the sort of thing you got in trouble for. "You can be attracted to someone and not want to play bedgames with them, sometimes. And you can kind of end up playing bedgames with someone you're not attracted to. So, only sometimes. And then, kids like you, can be attracted to each other but not play bedgames. Just, I dunno, hold hands and kiss." Yeah, hold hands and kiss.

"Funny good, Catseye thinks," she answered, frowning in thought. "Catseye thinks it is good that Catseye can be attracted to someone but not play bedgames because Catseye does not know how to play bedgames but Catseye knows how to hold hands and kiss!" she said proudly, before frowning again. "But Catseye does not know if she is attracted to Nick. Catseye kissed because it was in the movie and Catseye did not know until she asked Johnny that kissing was for people who are couples. How does Catseye know if she wants to be a couple with Nick?"

"That's two different things, there, babe. Do you like Nick, want to spend time with him and just him? And maybe kiss him some more? That's when you want to maybe think about being a couple."

"What is two different things?" Catseye asked, confused. "And if Catseye is a couple with Nick she can only be with him? Not her other friends?" She wasn't sure if she had that correct- lots of her friends were couples and still got to spend time with her and other people!

"You can only do couple things with Nick, not with oh, Johnny or Sarah. You can still be friends with other people." Monet took a deep breath before saying, "And the other thing is that ...bedgames and kissing. They're two different things and they mean different things. Bedgames are more serious, right?"

"Oh! Okay Catseye thinks she understands couple things and friend things. Couple things is kissing and bedgames and friend things is things Catseye does with her friends already like driving and playing chase and reading, yes?" Monet's warning about bedgames was something she didn't understand, however. "But Catseye does not understand what bedgames are if they are different than kissing."

Argh. "Hokay." Monet winced and rubbed her forehead for a moment. She was pretty shameless most of the time but there was a difference between being shameless to a peer and to a student. "Hokay. When a man and a woman or a man and a man or a woman and a woman are a couple for a while and are comfortable being a couple and are not in highschool," she paused for a moment. How old was Nick? "and are both over 18, they might decide to have sex." At Catseye's blank look, she went on, uncomfortably. "They might decide to take their clothes off, kiss each other lots and then have sex together." Monet looked at Catseye carefully. "But they have to be very careful when they do that. Do you understand?"

"Sex is bedgames?" She thought she understood that part. "And people have to be careful when they have sex? Why? Catseye does not understand. Catseye does not understand what sex means."

Monet nodded. "Yeah, sex is bedgames. You wanna know more about that, I think you should ask Jean or Doc Samson, okay? Or Mr Haller." She took another deep breath before going on. "You ... oh, god," she muttered, burying her face in her hands. "Okay, you have to make sure you make any man-person you have sex wear a condom or you could end up with a horrible disease or pregnant. And that you use a dental dam if you have sex with a woman person. And you have to be careful not to make someone have sex with you, or get them drunk so they'll do it, and no-one's allowed to do that to you, either, and if either of you stop wanting to, you both have to stop, okay?" Monet paused for a moment longer, forcing herself to look at Catseye the way a non-telepath might. When you took away the mental touch that was just a little too close to something not-human, what you were left with was an attractive woman who was only mostly a person upstairs.

"And this is important, too, okay," she said, "only humans can have sex with humans. You can't be a cat here," and Monet tapped her forehead, "and have sex with people. Because people aren't allowed to do that with cats, ever."

The speech was hard to understand at first, but Catseye knew it was important so she thought about each thing slowly. She made a mental note to definitely talk to someone about what sex actually was, and some of the things Monet talked about were still confusing, but the rules about not making anyone have sex and not getting anyone drunk and about stopping when someone wanted to sounded straightforward enough. And she had no trouble understanding the rule about cats and people. "Catseye thinks she understands," she nodded, "but Catseye thinks this means she cannot have sex because Catseye is mostly always a cat here." She tapped her own forehead. "But Catseye thinks this is a goodthing because sex sounds like a lot of rules and not a lot of fun."

Monet's earlier discomfort vanished and she fell over giggling. "It's lots of fun, kitty, as long as you follow the rules. Lots and lots of fun."
