Jay's having nightmares and cannot sleep, Dani's sleeping like a baby. What's wrong with that picture?

Jay startled in his sleep. Sweaty hands gripped his pillow from beneath his head and he pushed himself up on his elbows, breathing heavily and brushing a hand over the perspiration that collected on his forehead. A quick glance to his right and he realized that at some point, Dani had crawled on and his fingers trailed down his face, realizing that his cheeks were wet but not from the sweat. He felt awful, worse than last night and slid off the bed, tossing the covers aside, reaching for the pill bottle. He couldn't remember the last time he'd taken the pills, twelve? One? Nine? What time was it now?

3:06am.

The one night he could sleep and he couldn't. Getting off work early hadn't done him any favours and his night had gone terribly wrong, dropping two bottles while flare bartending with Larry and Jen. Both had pulled a face, neither said nothing because it was his boss that said something.

"You look like shit Jay. Maybe you should go home early."

"No. Ah'm fine,"
Jay had said.

"We're slow tonight and I'm telling you to go home."

He couldn't even argue it because why argue it when he did feel tired and had done a faceplant in bed, only to wake three hours later in a cold sweat with Dani beside him. Leaning over the bed, Jay snatched his jeans up from the floor, reminding himself that he really should stop sleeping in the nude if Dani was going to slip into his bed at night.

"Hum?" Dani murmured as Jay moved, not quite rolling over. She enjoyed sleeping with another person, her bed always felt so lonely when it was time to sleep if no one else was there. And no one else was ever there. Thankfully, Jay was not far and never minded if she joined him, She didn't mind that he slept nude either, she rarely wore much, but there was nothing between them but friendship. "Slee-ay," she murmured, calling him back to bed.

He stood up, tugging the jeans up over his hips, giving a brief flashed silhouette of his nude form and shook his head, stepping away from the bed. "Nah, Ah can't sleep," he said, brushing his matted hair away from his face. He needed air or something, anything to shake off the anxiety that clung to his body and opened the window.

Sighing, Dani rolled over onto her back. "Nightmare?" she asked, barely opening her eyes, but the word was coherent and she was waking up. They both had them, though she was more prone with her powers. Recently, she'd been sleeping better, longer than normal and dream free. She thought it was because of her work with the counselor that she had been seeing, discussing things. "Want some tea?"

He shook his head, leaned over the window sill and brushed the base of his palm over an eye. Sleep wouldn't come tonight nor would it any other night in the near future. Every time he closed his eyes, nightmares would come, horrific things he was so afraid of that he'd be weeping long before he woke. The weight of being unable to sleep was having more than its toll now. It affected his mood, his ability to see anything good and it affected his relationship now with his friends, people who he was suppose to be apart of the team with and his family. But this was normal. Everyone had nightmares, most of the mansion were insomniacs.

"God, Ah use to sleep so well and now Ah can't get a wink."

Sitting up, Dani adjusted her nightshirt from where it had gotten twisted and joined him at the window, strong hands massaging his stiff shoulders, "The pills ain't working?" she asked, knowing the answer. "Maybe you got too much stress, Shiro, the team, work..."

"Dani, don't, okay?" Jay murmured and shrugged her off, out of her grasp and slipped away from the window. It was too much like a relationship for him, being with her like this and his discomfort with it was obvious, but he didn't know how to say that he wanted space without offending her. Topless and barefoot, he headed towards the door.

"Ah'll see ya later."

With a sigh, Dani stepped back. It was a lot like a relationship...she liked that. There were no demands for sex, no arguments about money...She hadn't really thought about it before. After Jay left she looked at the unmade bed and left his room too, but didn't follow him, they were friends, not lovers. Instead, she made herself a cup of tea and went to watch the early morning infomercials. She wouldn't go back to sleep now either, not with this realization.
