Back during the luau, Tabby needs a drink after an encounter with Manuel and Amara is on hand to try and suggest drinks. Plans are made to throw Manuel off a cliff and hide the evidence. Or at least they dream about it.
Tabitha left Manny behind without another word. She made a beeline directly for the drinks. "I need to hit somebody or to drink something highly alcoholic," she said as she sat down heavily. "What should I order?"
Amara was there, fixing herself something decidedly not alcoholic. She paused at Tabby's question, looking over at everything available. "I think there is supposed to be the ingredients for margaritas here. Do you know how to make them?"
She stared at the assembly of ingredients in complete incomprehension. "No, I don't drink very often. Usually wine." She reached out to poke a bottle of something clear. "Do you suppose if I just start mixing things until it tastes good, I'll end up killing myself with it?"
"Neither do I," she said with a slight smile. "Usually Lil is on hand to make my drink choices for me." She bit her lip at the last question, glancing over the other woman. "Maybe start with a beer first? While you make up your mind." That seemed like a safe place to start. ... says the girl not drinking.
Tabs poked at an icy bottle with clear glass and a black top. "Four percent isn't too much, y'think?" She let herself think more about the alcohol than the anger still simmering beneath the surface.
"... I am not sure. I don't think so." Amara was really the wrong person to be asking about alcohol. She moved around to take a seat next to Tabby, looking hesitant. "Is everything... okay?" Amara didn't know Tabby well at all, but she'd be happy to guess that a sudden desire for alcohol meant something was not right.
The librarian smiled weakly at the other blonde. "Did I ever apologize for that awful trick in the library?" She popped the top off of something pansy-looking and took a gulp. "I let someone talk me into something dumb."
"What?" Amara looked surprised by that for a moment, then just shrugged. "Oh, it's fine, really." She waved a hand, a slight frown crossing her face for a moment. "Just another example of how... ridiculous Manuel de la Rocha is." It's possible that Amara may have intended to use another word, but she had slightly more class than that. Probably.
Tabitha took a deep gulp. "One day, I'm going to drop him off of a cliff. Really." She indulged in the familiar fantasy.
"Really?" Amara may have smiled a little at that, despite herself. After all, physical violence wasn't a way to solve personal problems. But in some cases... "I must admit, that does sound like a slightly fitting end for him."
"If we found a nice secluded corner of that quarry people like to blow up, they might not find him for years," Tabs speculated with a vague smile.
Amara pressed her lips together, trying not to break out into a full smile herself. "Just think, if we happened to be practicing with our powers out there ourselves, we could make sure he was not found."
The other blond gave a mock-wistful sigh. "Oh, stop, you're making my heart go pitter-pat with excitement." She laughed. "This doesn't make us bad people, right? I mean, he clearly "needs killin'" as they like to say in Texas."
"... I don't think so? Well, I mean. We're just talking about it. And he is so frustrating." If only you could toss people off a cliff for being confusing.
"Can't make up his darned mind about anything," Tabitha scowled. "Runs hot and cold like an hourly motel shower."
"Exactly!" Amara was so relieved to discover she wasn't the only one who found him like that. "Sometimes he is charming, sometimes he's perfectly polite, and other times he just..." Amara gritted her teeth. "He just makes me so mad sometimes."
She sighed. "Mostly, he just confuses me. I just need to take a vow to avoid him and call it good."
"That would be wise of both of us, I think." Amara glanced up at that moment, her attention caught by a flare of the bonfire - one a little bigger than was safe if left to burn that brightly. She shifted her gaze back to Tabby, offering the other woman an apologetic smile. "This is so rude of me, I am so sorry. But I think I need to check the fire in case it gets out of control."
