A certain Apple Ninja runs into an old flame on the sunny white sands of Malibu.

One thing about the beach, Yvette discovered, was that it was hot. Hotter than she was used to, even with New York's humidity. Her mutation didn't allow her to sweat, so she had to be careful about getting overheated, and so while everyone else were enjoying the sun, the small red girl was sitting in the shade with a book, several apples and a large botte of water. Since she was on her own she allowed herself the luxury of pulling off her socks and she wriggled her toes, enjoying the freedom of movement and sensation. Her hair hung in razor-edged ribbons, scratching at the bark of the tree was she leaning against, another sign of the Albanian's relaxed state. Not a care in the world, except for whether the heroine in her book would wind up with the right person.

A surprisingly short distance away, Cameron was playing Frisbee with several of his friends. It had been a passing thought to head down the coast for a week in Malibu, but he was having a good time. Back home, his girlfriend was missing him, but here...here he kept getting looks from bikini clad girls who admired his toned physique. Though they were pretty, he preferred something a bit different than a dime-a-dozen, surgically enhanced blond with a pretty smile.

Of course, that didn't mean he wouldn't look or flirt with them when they so willingly flaunted themselves and more-or-less threw themselves at him. In fact it was this that made him miss the flying disc as it soared past his head by centimeters and toward the treeline. While his friends called out and made fun of him, Cam simply blushed slightly and gave them a rather rude gesture before running after the Frisbee. To his shock he spotted something out the corner of his eye that made him take pause.

Beneath a rather full tree was a girl in a full body-suit with red skin, no more than a couple meters away. Her eyes were glowing blue and she seemed rather engrossed in her book, but how many people could actually have that same mutation. It looked like, "Yvette?"

Startled, she looked up, eyes flashing bright blue before she spotted the boy staring at her. "Cam!" she exclaimed with a broad smile - they'd emailed back and forth a bit after San Diego, but in the way of teenagers, had gradually gotten distracted by other things. That didn't mean she wasn't pleased to see him, however - a friend was a friend. "I did not think I would be seeing you again! You are on the vacation also?"

Tossing the Frisbee back to his friends, he jogged over to slide into a kneeling position next to his distant, and slightly estranged, friend. "Yeah! My friends and I are renting this beach house down the way. What are you doing here?! I haven't heard from you in, forever," he beamed at her, "you look great!" She did, in the last year-or-so she'd grown a bit, but was still cute and different. Her sharp skin seemed to have softened a bit and he thought of giving her a hug before wondering if it would be too forward- given her culture.

Her eyes glowed with pleased embarrassment at the compliment. "The same. I am here with my friends for the beach vacation. One of them, his parents are owing the house here. It has been the busy time for us so we are having the break." She tilted her head at him. "It is good to be seeing you. You are going to be here for the while, yes?" she asked the last almost hopefully - while she was still quieter than the usual American girl, Yvette's shyness had greatly reduced over the year. Near-death experiences tended to make you reach out for things, instead of hanging back.

With a slight chuckle he ruffled his hair, which was longer now than when they'd first met. With a smile still on his face, "Yeah, I'm here until the start of September, what about you? Are we going to get to have lunch again?"

She didn't flinch back from the contact, another sign of the changes she'd gone through. "If you are asking, of course," she replied, smiling back. "We have much news to catch up on, yes?"
