Visiting Marie for beer and pizza, Amanda's powers problem interrupts a serious conversation.

"...never thought anyone would get me into a toga." Amanda snorted and drained her beer. "At least not without it being some kind of undercover thing at a uni party. Still, I'm glad I went. I needed to make sure Selene hadn't left any booby traps lying around."

"Well, Ah do have the pictures to proove it. And Amara called it a, uh...stola? Does that sound right?" Marie shook her head and reached out to grab another piece of pizza. "Who knew that male and female togas were different? At least now we all have Halloween costumes ready to go."

"I'll hold you to that, next Halloween," her friend threatened with a leer and a grin. "I'm sure all the male students would really appreciate it."

"Only if you wear yours too," Marie said with a wink. "Plus, Ah think Ah'm getting too old now for the students to look at me that way. Ah mean, Ah already have all this white hair," she said with a smile.

"You think this place is ready for that much hotness in one hit?" Amanda teased back. "And you are so not getting old. People pay big bucks for a custom dye job like that." She reached over to grab another slice of pizza. "So, what else have you been up to?"
"Um, let me see," Marie said, pretending to sink deep into thought and tapping her finger against her temple. "Yeah, that's right. Nothing. Ah'm incredibly boring. It's good to be back in school...when Ah met with the guidance counselor, they said Ah should be able to finish in another year, as long as Ah passed all my summer classes."
"And then you'll be a fully fledged psychologist?" Amanda asked, swallowing a mouthful of pizza. "Still planning to stay on here?"

"Ah wish. That's like another five year degree. Try a girl with a master's in counseling. And Ah think since it took me way too long to finish this one program Ah should quit while Ah'm ahead...or having a few sane moments back to back anyhow," Marie said after she took another sip of her beer. "And yeah. Unless something amazing comes up elsewhere, there's plenty of good jobs here. Plus, Ah'd miss all you crazy folks too much if Ah left. Only ever had one other place that felt like anything like hom and going to Canada...well, it wouldn't be the same now, y'know?"

Amanda's expression sobered and she nodded. "Any word on who or what was behind all that?" she asked. Apparently even when she wasn't working these days, she was. She'd been trained too well to ask the pertinent questions.

Marie's brows tightened and she shifted uncomfortably in her seat. "Nothing new that Ah know of...something's just off and it doesn't make sense. It's not like Ah've been searching for answers though."

The witch made a mental note to talk to Logan or Garrison about it - if she knew them, they'd be looking for something. By and large Amanda liked the Canadian contingent - she and Jeanne-Marie had always been touch and go and the other woman's' response on the journals indicated the stick was still firmly wedged up her arse - and she didn't appreciate when the people she liked were upset. She opened her mouth to ask another question, but without warning she sank through the couch and the floor beyond, leaving an empty bottle of beer behind her.

Marie's own bottle slipped out of her hands, turning on its side and spilling out a small pool of amber liquid. "Amanda?" Marie said, suddenly understanding how Garrison must've felt when she pulled her own disappearing act. She reached over to the couch to pat the cushion. Just as she was wondering who in the Snow Valley chain of command she should contact, her cell vibrated in her pocket. Letting out a sigh of relief when she saw the name in the caller id, she flipped it open. "Ok, what the hell was that?"

"That was my new trick - I thought it had stopped, but apparently not," came the rueful answer. "Sorry, mate, didn't mean to startle you. Ottawa's nice, by the way. Lots of gothic architecture going on."

Marie shook her head for a moment before responding. "At least Ah wasn't reminiscing about the last time Ah was in Alaska. Or inside a volcano."

"'S normally a bit more random. Hang on a sec, there's a homeless bloke looking at me funny." There was a pause, some muted conversation and then Amanda's voice returned. "Lucky I had a nearly whole piece of pizza to give him. Let me see about getting back... you don't feel like meeting me in Times Square in about an hour, do you? I don't really want a powers glitch to get in the way of our girl's night."

"Guess it's a good thing I'm still on my first beer," Marie said as she walked over to look in the mirror. "And that I'm dressed appropriately for a night on the town."

"Fantastic. See you in an hour then." Amanda's grin was almost audible over the phone. "I'll bring you back some of that poutine stuff, shall I?"
