Lil stops by Garrison's to check up on things.

She wasn't sure if he'd be in - or even up to company - but seeing as she was only there for a bit longer, Lil felt it best to touch base with the mountie. However, instead of her normal, abrasive way of trying to get attention, the giantess rapped her knuckles lightly on Kane's door. "Gar? You in?"

Kane looked up from his computer, a steadily growing pile of completed paperwork growing beside him. His own searches had left him behind on his work with the Bureau, and Duncan's slightly pointed reminder about deadlines had all but made certain he'd have to catch up sooner rather than later.

"Come in?" He called over his shoulder.

"Heya," the giantess greeted as she ducked in and closed the door behind her. "Thought I'd just drop by see how things are going... Didn't think I'd catch you mid-battle against an army of dead trees though," Lil added with a smirk as she plopped down on the nearby couch, making herself at home.

"Trees killed Sonny Bono. There are no such things as 'skiing accidents'." Kane leaned back in his chair, swiveling it around to face her. "I see you made it down for the festivities. How's Madison doing?"

"He's... healing. 'Better' ain't the word for it yet but but he's getting there. Coming home on Monday, though." The smile she gave her friend was soft but hopeful. Every day there was a fraction more of the Old Madison pushing its way to the surface. "Figured it'd be better to come down and get my things now so I don't have to hire your sister as a babysitter. She says 'hi' by the way."

"You really don't want my sister as a babysitter. She considers children to be the world's first sexually transmitted disease." Garrison said easily, leaning forward and bracing his elbows on his knees. "What are you guys planning to do? I know you're both drawing a paycheck through Beta Flight, but that's hardly a wealthy stipend."

Lil shrugged a shoulder and settled back deeper into the couch. "Don't know, yet. We've got enough in savings to cover our asses for a bit so I can stay home with him but once Maddy's back on his feet, I really don't know. Probably back to the bar and club scenes for me but you know us: simple living's plenty." It was a struggle to keep the grin in place as she voiced her plans. "Things get bad I can always look into doing personal security or something."

"Well, let me know if I can help out. I still have a few friends marginally employed in Toronto, and they might have some options open. You'd be wasted pulling the midnight guard shift at a Brampton stripmall."

"Appreciate it," she returned with a nod of her head. "We'll be okay for now. How about you? How's things going here? Beyond the pile of enviornmentalists' nightmares on your desk, I mean."

"They've been better. In the last month, I've turned up exactly nothing on what's happened with Alpha Flight." Kane tossed his pen down disgustedly. "Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero. We believe it somehow ties into the program that created Logan, but we don't have the slightest clue how or why. Not even the Director has turned up any information. And the thing that worries me most is that there still isn't any motive that I can figure out that makes sense."

Lil sighed in sympathy, watching the pen skitter across the desktop. "At least Juddsie and Madison are safe," she offered with a hint of optimism but the words felt hollow even in her own ears. "Ain't anyone poking around as far as I can tell looking to finish the job or anything so that's a break. We'll get them, though, Gar. We'll get whatever sonsofbitches did this even if it takes a little longer to find them. Unfortunately, Maddy doesn't remember anything about the attack so I can't really give you any new information, either."

"Yeah, my worry is that our next clue is only going to turn up after someone else gets it in the neck. I prefer to get to them before they can make any more corpses, not after." Garrison said sourly, shaking his head. Logan and North still were looking into the Weapon X connection, and Kane dearly hoped it wouldn't turn out as empty as his own leads had been.

"Good thing most of us got strong necks," the blonde woman tried, running her hand over her forehead to brush a few wisps of hair away. It was frustrating, all of it, and as much trouble as she had dealing with Madison's recovery, she wouldn't want to be in Garrison's position. "There anything else I can be doing back home? Other than keeping Vikks outta the bars twice a week by making her eat dinner with me?"

"Sadly, I can't think of anything. Just keep your eyes open, and take care of Madison. He will get all the way back from this, but he'll need your help to do it." Garrison hoisted himself out of his chair and took another look at the paperwork. "Fuck this. I'm taking a break."

Lil laughed in spite of herself. "You seem like you could use one. No offense, but you look like shit." Not that she had much room to talk; it had been a rough month. "What you thinking about in terms of downtime?"

"Somewhere out there, there is a beer calling my name, and some kind of charred flesh ready for consumption. That's about as picky as I'm likely to get today."

"You mind some company?" It would probably be months before the next time they were able to sit down for a drink together. "Promise I won't bitch too much. Or tell you stories about your sister's latest escapades. I'm living vicariously through her again now that this is back in place," Lil said, lifting her left hand so the wedding band caught the light, "so I've got all the juicy details."

"As long as you don't supply me with details of whatever idiot she's hooked up with this week, I'll be happy." Kane said, underlining his view of Vikks atrocious dating habits. "Come on. The beer is getting warm."

"Idiots. Plural," was all she replied as she climbed off the couch and followed him out the door.
