Doreen buys herself Guitar Hero and teaches Catseye how to play.

Sometimes saving up your meager earnings yielded a great reward. Sometimes your mom put everything you sent her in an envelope and sent you back home with it demanding that you use it to buy something to have fun with.

Whatever the cause, Dori was now the proud owner of Guitar Hero 5, complete with drum set, two guitars and a microphone, for the PS3. She was setting it up in the rec room. A PS3 also something she had really, really saved up for. And the TV in here... the TV in here was really big. And someone would see her playing and stop by!

She picked up the guitar controller, knowing she'd have to be careful with her claws and got started on the most important thing! Making her avatar.

Dori's avatar looked just like her, minus the tail, the claws and the freckles, right down to the bucked teeth. ...Of course, she dressed herself really silly. But that was the point of these games. ...She should've grabbed someone to play with her, she realized. But right now, she just started on the first venue, relearning the controls.

Hee, this was fun!

Catseye poked her head in the rec room when she heard movement and frowned at the television. "What is Dori doing? Making a Dori-person on the television? Can Dori make a Catseye person? What are the people for?"

"Hey Catseye," Doreen said smiling, "Yeah, I can make one for you if you want," she said happily, "They're for playing this game, so you can play the drums or one of the guitars or sing. I can show you how to make one for you if you want," she offered.

"Is the game fun?" Catseye inquired curiously. "What does it do?" She didn't really understand the allure of video games, personally. Sitting in front of a television screen while little things on the screen moved? It was much more fun to play games like Chase, in her opinion.

“Yes, it’s like being in a band and making music. You get to ‘play’ an instrument… and well… you really have to play it to get it. Do you want to play?” Doreen asked brightly, now making a Catseye avatar, complete with fangs and purple hair.

"Catseye has never played an instrument before," she mused, head tilted in thought as she watched Dori make a character for her on the screen. "Catseye has only watched Jay and Terry do it before. Catseye thinks it would be fun to try." She picked up the bass guitar and eyed it suspiciously. "Can Catseye use this one?"

“Totally,” Dori said, “Now, it’s really easy to play. See the buttons on there, how they’re different colors. When the right color gets to the bottom of the screen you hit the same colored button. I can show you if you want. I also got the microphone so you can sing and stuff,” she said happily.

The catgirl inspected the buttons. That seemed easy enough. "Catseye does not know how to sing," she told Dori ruefully. "Catseye does not know lots of songs."

“It’s okay, I can’t sing either, so we’ll just play guitars,” she said happily, and after she had saved Cats’ avatar, she clicked over to the main screen and just went to quick play, “We’ll just start here so I can show you how. I think it’s really fun.”

It didn't seem like very much fun right now, Catseye thought as she watched Dori scroll through a short list of titles. "What is Dori doing?" she inquired, pushing random buttons on her guitar.

One of the random buttons picked a song, “Um… picking a song, but you kind of did. Now, it’s really easy, trust me,” Dori said, as she got ready to play. “And fun. You have to have fun.”

Catseye frowned as Bob Dylan's 'All Along The Watchtower' began to play and coloured circles began raining down the screen on both sides of a line that was drawn down the centre. She stared at them for several seconds, eyes darting from the circles to Dori's fingers. In a few moments she had worked which screen she was supposed to be looking at, the rhythmn of the song, and the timing out for when the circles fell down and when Dori was pushing the buttons. Tail lashing with concentration, she fixed her fingers to the coloured buttons on her own guitar and her eyes on her own screen. It was a lot harder to actually push the buttons when the circles fell in the right place than it was to watch Dori doing it, and she kept getting confused about which finger was on which coloured key at first, but as the song wore on Catseye settled more or less into the flow of it. "What is the little stick at the bottom of Dori's guitar for?" she asked Dori through gritted teeth.

“It’s to make the notes sound funny,” Doreen said. “If you want to watch me play one song quick, I can show you. When you have the long notes you wiggle the bar and it sounds cool. On a real guitar it’s called a whammy bar.”

"Yesyesyes Catseye will watch and see Dori make the notes whammy," Catseye smiled.

"Okay!" Doreen picked a song with a lot of long notes, there were a lot to choose from and showed how messing with the whammy bar gave the notes a 'wah wah wah' quality. Almost to the point of just being silly. "I love this game," she said happily.

"The notes sound very funny," the purple-haired girl smiled. "Is it this easy to play a real guitar?"

Doreen paused, "You know, I don't know. I don't think so anyway."

"Catseye will have to ask Jay," she announced, nodding to herself. "Can Catseye try the guitar with the whammy bar?"

Doreen held it out, "Yeah. It's a little hard to get the timing on it right away though. Do you want to play another song?"

"Yesyesyes!"

"Alright! ...And I have the PERFECT name for out band!" Doreen said, her tail fluffing up happily as she entered in the name on the main screen. "Girls with Tails! Like it?"

Catseye dissolved into giggles on the couch. "Catseye loves it!"
