Jan and Inez - Girl Talk

While out at the amusement park, Inez grabs Jan for a bit of Girl Talk and advice.



Inez brushed her hair back as she carefully replaced her hearing aids in her ears. It was easier to just take them in and out when she got on rides instead of trying to hope they'd stay in during the crazy loops and curves of a roller coaster. And she wasn't about to sit and watch everyone else have fun while she couldn't.

Looking around, she saw Jan in line at one of the snack carts and skipped over, giving a quick "I'll be right back" to the group she was with.

"Hey, Janet!" she chirped as she hopped into line behind the shorter girl. "Hey, can I ask you something? Kind of a student-to-RA thing, but kind of a girl-to-girl thing?"

"Sure!" Jan said. "What's up? Everything ok?" As a whole, the students seemed to be quiet about the recent "vanishing" from the mansion. Both students and staff had left all in such a short span of time, and she hoped the kids knew they had people they could talk to if they wanted. They were a good group of kids, though, and seemed pretty capable of sorting things out on their own without outside aid.

"Oh, yeah. Things are good. Great," Inez replied, trying to figure out how to phrase her question. "Okay, um... you're kinda hooking up with Kyle, right? Tall, big mess of hair, claws and fangs, kinda... well, yeah, obviously you know who he is, duh. Do you guys every have... um... y'know, where you're wanting something more... physically, I mean? Like, sex and stuff?"

"Uh..." Jan stared at Inez. She'd wondered when/if a student would ever come to her or another RA with boy/girl troubles and/or need some form of The Sex talk, but she hadn't quite figured she'd be asked something like this. "Well, you know, Kyle and I... when two people like each other a lot... aw, screw it! You might be a student but you're also an adult. And it's not as though the staff doesn't know the students have sex. I mean, come on; Nori practically advertised it, and all of the staff members were once in high school, too. Or were that age at least, I guess. So, yeah, sex. Good stuff, if it's done right. I mean, some people are all about 'Oh, it doesn't matter just sleep with anyone whenever you want' and I guess if it works for them, ok. That's not how I feel about it, though. I mean, ok, to be honest, the main reason I waited was because I new it would be kind of hard to get real intimate with someone and not have them notice the wings, and maybe there'd be accidental zapping, so although I dated a bunch in high school it never really went too far. And then I met Kyle and, you know, liked him a lot, but I am a year older than him and while at one point we were students at the same time I also wound up being an RA while he was a student and that would have been kind of weird, I thought, an RA showing interest in a student, and then he graduated but then he was with Clarice, and I don't go for the stealing boyfriends thing which is why I got upset at Clarice when she made her 'Hey Kyle, you still want to sleep with me?' post after the two of us were already together and um I'm kind of rambling now, aren't I? Sorry about that. But, um, waiting. Good, I think, waiting for the right time and the right person, also being safe of course, whenever you do decide to do whatever you do. And, you know, if you don't want to wait or you've already not waited, that's cool, too. Just, safety, right? Unless you're already past that point and that's why you're asking me and oh god how bad did I just screw up?"

Inez blinked at Jan in surprise as the rambling took a while to sink in. Then, slowly, she sighed and wrung her fingers in frustration. "Argh, I know, I know. That's not the problem. It's just... okay, yo. Here's how it is. Me. Young, hot, totally normal girl in, y'know, all those kinda ways. I should be having sex. I'm certainly ready. More ready than I was, anyway. And Julian... well, he and I kinda have this thing, but it's not a thing-thing, sort of a... 'with benefits', y'know? Except... not so much yet with the good part of the benefits."

Shuffling forward in the line, Inez tried not to grit her teeth. "And what's getting to me is that he broke things off with Angel because she wouldn't, and now I'm feeling all confused because I totally want to and he's being all... all Julian about it!"

He broke up with Angel because she wouldn't sleep with him? Harsh. Knowing that wasn't quite what Inez needed to her, Jan kept those particular thoughts to herself. "What does 'being all Julian about it' mean?" Jan asked. "I mean, I get the idea, but what's he acting like? I'd know what "being all Kyle" about something would mean, but not so sure on the Julian version. Like, did he want to sleep with Angel and she said no so he broke up with her and now you want to be with him but he's not going for it, or something else?"

"You know," Inez began, rolling her eyes dramatically. "Thinks he's god's gift to women, acts all suave - and don't get me wrong, he can be really sweet and he's a good kisser and... yeah. And hey, he's an awesome guy even if I don't want to date him, yo. But it's like he turns on the charm and then hits the brakes just when things get going. He's... he's... he's a tease! That's what it is!"

"So, you don't want to date him, you just want to sleep with him?" Jan gave a Look to the person in front of her, who had just turned around, staring. "Can I help you with something? I think you're next in line, might want to pay attention to that rather than to a little bit of girl talk, 'k? Thanks." She looked back to Inez. "Have you told him this? I mean, like, specifically said that? Maybe he's not ready, even if he thought he was. Maybe he's just not sure, if you guys take it to the next level, even if not supposed to be as a couple, what will happen then? And, you know, what happens if you guys don't hit the breaks, and then one of you meets someone you actually want to date? Have you guys figured that part out?"

Inez shrugged. "No strings, that was the deal, yo. It shouldn't change anything. I mean, we're... friends. Right? If one of us meets someone, we should still be friends. That's normal. Isn't it?"

"Well, if you're keeping it casual," Jan began, "and you agree from the start you're free to see other people if you want, yeah, lots of people do that. Sometimes it turns out great, othertimes it doesn't, it all just depends on the people involved and if both of you guys are really on the same page and will be ok if the other person gets interested in someone else, or someone hits on them. Have open communication, and when it's over it's over." Something Clarice didn't get, obviously.

"That's what I was thinking," Inez said, visibly less nervous than when the conversation had begun. "Now the trick is just to get him to that point. I suppose if everything else fails, I could just talk to him... thanks, Jan."

"No problem," Jan said, moving forward as it was now her turn to order. "You feel free to come talk to me again about this or anything else, ok? Hey, want anything from here? My treat."

"Funnel cake," Inez said rapidly, smiling widely. "Funnel cakes are the bomb, yo."
